"Today, you people are no longer maggots. Today, you are Marines. You're part of a brotherhood. From now on until the day you die, wherever you are, every Marine is your brother."
Most of you will go to Vietnam. Some of you will not come back. But always remember this - Marines die. That's what we're here for. But the Marine Corps lives forever. That means that you live forever.
Brilliant, although it brings a tear to my eye. I'm a 76 year old Brit and I lost my eldest Nephew Mike, he was a Marine serving his third tour in Viet Nam, he was killed just before the war ended. It makes my blood boil when I see pictures of people burning and insulting the American and British flags. It should be classed as treason. God Bless America and the UK.
+David Mann How do you mean that the U.K is your aunt and America is your mom? I am not sure I follow you. In my comment above, I was referring to the fact that England established the 13 original colonies that eventually became the first U.S. states. Hence, the term "mother country" for England. During most of our history, the U.S. and the UK have been very close allies.
+Texas Son The USA & the UK need to remain allies. What a lot of Americans forget is that as you point out, the first states were colonies which were established by the Brits. And what a lot of Brits forget is that had the USA not entered the war when it did, there would be no UK as we know it, it would be a German colony. Kindest Regards, Ray.
+John Collins I used to live in the Houston area, so I know where Sugar Land is. Unbelievable!! So sorry to hear about all the changes. This might interest you....go to www.thetnm.org
Respect to you from Germany!! All Americans can be proud of their Army and the U.S.M.C.. I'm going to be a soldier in the Bundeswehr ( German Army),and I'm hopefully going to serve with some of our American brothers! Semper Fi!!!!
And when he goes to Heaven. St. Peter he will tell. One more Marine reporting Sir I've served my time in Hell.. Belleau Woods Tarawa Iwo Jima Chosin Reservoir Pusan Hue City KheSanh Fallujah, Iraq Afghanistan
My father used to whistle this sound as he wakes me up for the morning when I was a kid, i always looked up to the Corps for inspiration and the fighting attitude of never giving up, i may have joined a different branch of service but my heart will always admire the tenacity of the Marines
At a Memorial Day concert held in a local cemetery in 1999, the musicians on the bandstand played the Armed Forces Medley, highlighting the various branches of the services, inviting active and past members to stand and join in. I watched as Army veterans stood and waved their hands to their tune. The same happened when the Navy's music was played, and was repeated for the Air Force as well as the Coast Guard. All the participants had stood, tapping their feet and waving their arms in time with the music and looking around at the others standing. When they played the Marine Corps Hymn, I stood immediately to military attention; eyes to the front, chin high, stomach in, shoulders well back, the thumbs of my closed hands along the outer seam of my trousers, and my feet at a 45 degree angle with the heels touching. When the Marine Hymn ended, I sat down and asked a family member if she had seen any other Marines stand during the abbreviated rendition. She said "No, you were the only one who stood." At that time, in that place, I represented the ENTIRE United States Marine Corps, past and present, and had followed my training, which said to stand at attention whenever I heard our hymn to honor the Corps and my brethren. I will never forget that concert. P.S., Active service from 1965 to 1969. 0311; two combat tours in Vietnam; First MarDiv, FMF-PAC; 2/5, 2/7, and 1/27.
I was in Danang in 1965 with the First LAAM Bn. 1st MAW. I went to the Veterans day program at my grandson's elementary school here in Georgetown, Texas. It was a great feeling to see all of those children honor the veterans.
Few US Marines know and even fewer Greeks, that the Marine's Hymn celebrates the very first joint Greek and American military cooperation. It took place in 1805 and resulted in the release of 308 Americans held hostage for ransom by pirates. The reference to American Marines in action on "the shores of Tripoli” commemorates the attack on a stronghold of the Pasha of Tripoli (Libya), who along with the rulers of three other petty North African states, Morocco, Tunis and Algiers, practiced piracy against commercial shipping in the Mediterranean in the eighteenth and nineteenth century.
@@ClearedHot470 You may as well joke about the telephone wrapping its receiving end around vegans attacking on vegans because they don't eat meat, going to crops destroying all the farms and saving the vegetables, that also is a joke you would then have and we're on to something.
+Trek001 Lol wtf? America and Britain are some of the best allies on Earth. We literally have better relations with Britain than we do with Canada. You're not British, you a traitor. Not accepting your ally is not accepting your country. I'll even go as far as to say Britain is like a second home to me. Stop being so imperial against your allies, like France, Germany and the US. You know what needs to be on your 'To-Do" list? Destroying those who seek to destroy your country.
“From the Halls of Montezuma To the shores of Tripoli; We fight our country’s battles On the land as on the sea; First to fight for right and freedom And to keep our honor clean; We are proud to claim the title Of United States Marine. Our flag’s unfurled to every breeze From dawn to setting sun; We have fought in ev’ry clime and place Where we could take a gun; In the snow of far-off Northern lands And in sunny tropic scenes; You will find us always on the job The United States Marines Here’s health to you and to our Corps Which we are proud to serve; In many a strife we’ve fought for life And never lost our nerve; If the Army and the Navy Ever look on Heaven’s scenes; They will find the streets are guarded By United States Marines.”
My favorite military song is "Army Goes Rolling Along" though I absolutely love this one as well, the US has some damn good anthems and some damn good men.
The best version ever. God rest the souls of the Marines and Navy Corpsman who sacrificed all at the Kabul airfield. Not to mention all the ass the Corps has kicked since it was started in a bar in 1776. Semper Fi And that’s coming from an old 1st Battalion Ranger. Class 10-82. Sua Sponte.
3 weeks ago today was my Grandpa's funeral. He was a 2nd Division Marine, served in Saipan and Tinan. When his casket was walked out of the church, this song was played. I held my tears back and walked my Grandma out of the church, making sure to be at attention and "marching" properly. It was what my Grandpa would have wanted. He was a great man, a very loud and proud marine. Semper Fi Grandpa.
He never owed the nation, on the contrary, the nation owes everything to his grandfather, may he rest in peace. "They can kill us, but they will never defeat us, because we will regroup in hell" Semper Fidelis
My nephew recently retired from the Marine Corp with the rank of LT.COLONEL From Quantico MCB. He was the very first Commissioned officer in my family which was alway a Navy-Marine Corps family
While watching a platoon of Marines march past in our Memorial Day parade I couldn't help myself and called out, "Marine!!" ... Instantly two Marines shouted back, "OORAH!!".... made my entire week!... Semper Fi, Marines !!
Today, you are Marines. You're part of a brotherhood. From now on until the day you die, wherever you are, every Marine is your brother. Most of you will go to [war]. Some of you will not come back. But always remember this: Marines die. That's what we're here for. But the Marine Corps lives forever. And that means YOU live forever.
I joined 17 March 1973.Later I golfed for years with a guy older than me. Not until his death I learned he was part of those Marines left on Guadalcanal.
The Marines told me "No" when I tried to join the ranks of the Few last year... but never the less... Semper Fi Devil Dogs!! And hell... the Army was all too eager to take me after that, got my ship date earlier this week. Just waitin to go now. My Father(one helluva salty Leather Neck who fought in O.P Desert Storm) couldn't be prouder of me goin into the service
+Mic C I don't know why he did not make it in, but I have seen local guys get turned down for the weirdest reasons, one guy for being too muscular, like a body builder.
@@StevenTheAristolianNerd The Marines know what the optimal build is for combat, like a Spartan Phalanx they cannot accept anyone who could present a weak point.
My Grandpa was in the 1st Marine division during the time period of 1963-1976 he was one of the few Mexican born marines who were citizens and residents in 1MD for the time period. He Fought in Vietnam and survived the war but sadly passed in 2013. This song was played at his funeral.
I went out drinking with a Marine and a Navy-man in college (Ole Miss) Me and the Navy-man had to run round Oxford trying to find him. Some how he managed to make it home pissed out of his head about 4 miles away. Being a Brit i must say if every marine drinks like him, they are a unit to be feared :D From a Grenadier Guard reject Semper Fi.
My best friend became a Marine officer, and I was talking to some other people about it (dirty civi here) and they advised him to learn to drink everyone he ever met under the table or no one in any military would respect him.
Hi Americans, do you know that this March was composed by a Sudanese musician called Ismail Abdelmoein in 1943 and was given to the Marin forces in Libya at that time.
Huge respect to my family who serves in the corps and navy. They are determined, willed and will never give up on their mission. Semper fi to all Marines and thank you for your service.
I always called my pop on their birthday up until his last days to tell him it was the birthday and found a recording to play over the ph. He kept his toes from the Chosin until Dec. LY. At 88 good pop!
To our brothers and sisters who served in Afghanistan...your service and dedication was not in vain. You did your part to make the world a better place. Semper fidelis and God speed.
Former army I like marine hymn better.. that said it is heartbreaking what these last generals and idiots in washington have done to our military..pitiful
Here's health to you and to our Corps Which we are proud to serve; In many a strife we've fought for life And never lost our nerve. If the Army and the Navy Ever look on Heaven's scenes, They will find the streets are guarded By United States Marines.
this is 4 my big brother LT.Martin L. Davis and all the good men and dames severing in the corp i will beside you in battle may 22, 2015 that when i can sign up 4 the corp THE FEW THE PROUD THE MARINE CORP R.I.P. of SGT. Paul Ray Smith
I too feel huge emotion when I hear this hymn. I'm English by birth, served in the Royal Navy and moved to New Zealand in 1980. If it were not for the USMC in WW2 New Zealand would be another Japanese island.
Read some history and get your facts right. Who stopped the Japanese in new Guinea..sure was not any Marines there. Some Australian reservists turned them back. See, Aussie reservists are better the so called marines. Guess what, no one would want NZ anyway.
Respect from Czech republic. I was be czech soldier but I cant because Im still in high school :( I want be in future policeman or soldier. Semper fidelis all warriors ;)
very funny...I didn't know this.....Geneviève de Brabant is an opéra bouffe, or operetta, by Jacques Offenbach, first performed in Paris in 1859. The plot is based on the medieval legend of Genevieve of Brabant...... As well as being a popular performance-piece, it formed the basis for the U.S. "Marines' Hymn".
Favorite song in the world... When the marines are coming you better run...they will seek and find faith justice and be honest and truthful no matter what...SEMPER FIDELIS

My 2nd Grandfather (on my mother's side) is a American-Ukrainian who was in Guadalcanal. I have his Eagle Globe and Anchor and his hat from the 1940's. I sadly never met him in person.
