The jam in drunkship, I could be wrong, but they only played that specific jam in an off tour concert in 2005 Santa Barbara bowl. I was at the show and was blown away by it. Especially since they played the lead with a flute. Look the concert up and you can hear. I have been searching for other shows where they played that beautiful part, they finally brought it back. I love it 😍

@@xeicv this festival was VERY expensive and the crowd was there to see pop artists ( the line-up was flume, HAIM, forence+the machine and other bands). Honestly, mars volta was kinda lost in this festival, and the same festival will happen this next weekend in São Paulo, another city that is much more common to have concerts of alternative bands (and usually people from all across the country go to são paulo to see concerts) So my guess is that in the next weekend more people will be there to see mars volta

I think this version of TMV has brought Omar down in the mix and raised the keyboards to create a more balanced sound like in the early Tremulant days. It’s giving them a fuller more cohesive sound. I can dig it.

I think its the foh sound actually. Vocals fxs appear manually where they should (octaver part in "boxcar cadavers" for instance) which are turned on by the foh engineer for sure. Also, more keys upfront seems to be dostinctive for the whole tour, which is a great move with such an amazing player

i saw them live in LA last year -- this is probably their best ever live era. they're so tight! drums look effortless, the keyboard player is bringing new depth to the existing chords and playing around like crazy. plus the guitaar is flawlesssssssss

LOL. No it isn’t. You’re wrong on multiple levels. A. No Ikey Owens. B. Theodore was obviously the best TMV drummer, his parts were the best and the stack cymbal he used is a sound that no TMV drummer has gotten close to recreating. Pridgen was the most talented and Parks I think worked the best with Omar live. C. Energy. The bands energy is a shell of its former self - the shows from Deloused, Frances and Bedlam were just of an entirely different energy to that of the Amputechture shows and then far different from the tours that occurred after. D. Omar isn’t the same guitarist. The absurd indulgence and ability from At The Drive In and Deloused, Frances, Bedlam and Amputechture is not something that typifies Omar’s guitar writing anymore. I think he should obviously do what he wants as a musician - however TMV is the band they are not because of albums like Noctourniquet or the self-titled - it’s because of Deloused in the Comatorium & Frances the Mute, with both The Bedlam in Goliath and Amputechture also contributing. Bass is good. Honestly I prefer Juan to Eva however this is pretty minor. Cedric sounds a lot better than he has in a while. Did you ever see TMV during their earlier shows? Cause they’re two entirely different bands live and this band is certainly not the one that made people fall in love with them.

@@MonoPrime comparing the album performances I agree with you. However I saw them extremely early. Right after Deloused was released in LA. Their first show after the album came out and it was abysmal. And that was with the OG lineup. Included Frusciante with them for nearly the entire set. They sounded like complete unorganized shit because they played one cut and then jammed for 40min. It was obnoxious. They are not the jam or jazz musicians that can pull something like that off in my opinion. The best I’ve ever heard Cedric is the tour they did after Coachella comeback with At The Drive In. The first tour without Jim. His voice was spot on and his performance wasn’t held back. I had been watching ATDI since they hit the touring scene. They were such a furious show but always sounded like crap also. So I was happy to see him and Omar finally find the balance of performance physically and sonically. That all that said, I’d go see Volta if this was the set I’d see because I am pretty impressed with what they are giving us here.
@MonoPrime
@MonoPrime 10 месяцев назад
@@DiamondLiferYeah Cedric sounded great on the ATDI tour w/o Ward. He also looked like he was really enjoying the ATDI shows which I wouldn’t say with Omar.
@DiamondLifer

@@MonoPrime The two shows I saw were far enough after Omar mother’s death, so Omar seemed to also really enjoy himself and was really into the music. I’m glad I didn’t push to see them at Coachella. Omar was devastated. Hats off to him for not cancelling the performance feeding into their flaky rumors.
@MonoPrime
@MonoPrime 10 месяцев назад
@@DiamondLifer Yeah the Coachella performance video is really sad because you can see Omar is just grappling with something far larger than the music. It’s made even worse I think by the fact that it was the only time (I think) where Jim Ward played with ATDI again.
