Every time this miniseries would show on tv I would get excited when I was a kid. I've just lost both of my parents and its a tough time for me right now, but this music takes me back to those wonderful times as a kid growing up with them. Love you mom and dad.

YES!!!! I have this soundtrack! Loved the miniseries. It's my favorite Ray Bradbury book! Back in the 90s I actually wrote him a fan letter and he replied! I only asked for an autograph on a blank notecard that I sent. He wrote a lovely note to me, signed a book jacket of this book, a signed photo of himself, plus he drew a cartoon of himself on the large envelope he sent back to me! I couldn't believe that he was so nice to me, just a fan who asked for a simple autograph. Thank you Soundtrack Fred! You made this suite simply beautiful! 🥰

The movie was okay, but the fantastic score by Stanley Myers was the thing I remembered most, especially the talk Hudson had with the Martian at the end really tugs at the heartstrings, majestic , sad and Erie too.

"The Martian Chronicles" (1980) was a mini-series in three parts, written by legendary author Ray Bradbury and starring Rock Hudson, among others. The story about mankind discovering Mars (and its inhabitants) was done vizually and musically great for its time, regarding a production for TV. Speaking of music: The score by Stanley Myers remained well known among sci-fi enthusiasts with a great mix of orchestral and synthetic sounds. Especially his pieces for the landscapes of the red planet are otherworldly good. Enjoy!

wonderful miniseries, the saddest part of the whole show was seeing earth thru the viewer being destroyed, the ending was so magical when hudson and the martian conversed with eachother

Fully understood as it illustrates the folly of mankind's ignorance & foolishness in always pushing for war and the consequences of such.

Thank you for this! Remembering Rock Hudson flying around on Mars in an autogyro! An now we are flying a helicopter on Mars! This soundtrack definitely sounds like a TV soundtrack from the ‘80’s. Really good!

I remember this series being advertised on TV in Australia and begging my parents to be able to watch it. 'You're too young for space stuff' mum said. But she let me anyway. That end theme music stayed in my head for decades till I caught it online.

I remember being in a state of wonder watching the miniseries and later in life found the book even more wonderful. Thanks for the upload. Remember Spender? Remember the Martians chasing down the hamburger or hot dog stand man and giving him the title to the planet? The last man on Mars? I guess it would be hard to suspend your belief system now and be entertained with how CGI everything has gotten but at one time, not long ago in my mind, it held me spellbound.

Hi, Fred!! This score came after the celebrated " The Deer Hunter "(1978), considered Myers's best work but not even nominated for an Oscar. When Hans Zimmer came from Germany to study in England with Myers, he started his career in a partnership with his Professor in the drama " Moonlighting "(1982). The critics says that Zimmer, even being a student and younger, exerted a bad influence on Myers, inducing him to abuse synthesizers ( in a way I agree - I don't like Zimmer ). Here, in the sci - fi based on the ever excellent Bradbury ( the story is set between January 1999 and October 2026 ( we are inside the trouble...), and before the 15-film partnership with his student obsessed with loud rock bands, orchestra and synthesizers are well connected, in a very good soundtrack. Thanks again, Fred, and nice weekend!!!

One of the reasons why Stanley Myers' music for "The Deerhunter" was ignored by the Academy is that it (or certainly the main theme) had been recorded ten years earlier, and had already been heard as the theme of a British film titled "The Walking Stick". So it broke the Academy's rules (just as the theme from "The Godfather" did)

Still say the best thing about that miniseries was Stanley Myers' score. I grabbed the soundtrack CD when it became available because I knew it wouldn't be around long. My favorite piece is The Silver Locusts, depicting the earth ships heading to Mars ... all at once. Yeah, it comes across as stupid as it sounds. But the music is almost majestic enough to make you ignore the very obvious wires. Almost....

Thanks for this beautiful and rare score. I believe the photo at the beginning is of Vilmos Zsigmond, not Stanley Meyers.

Tom, thank you so much for noticing! I was happy to find that one picture of "Myers" in good quality and it turns out to not be him... A shame. However, Zsigmond looks surprisingly similar to Myers (well, a bearded version of him). Very unfortunate that this image seems to dominate the internet regarding the composer... Anyways, thanks again for noticing! Fred

It seems to me that more people would have remained on Mars when they knew the war was imminent. That it would destroy the world. It didn't make sense that nearly they all left. Also, how is there oxygen when there doesn't seem to plant life? Despite that, it was still a good mini series
