Marvel waits too long to do sequels for everything except spiderman, Thor, and guardians. All the other characters have to wait several years for sequel. By the time it comes out, the hype and buzz has cooled to a freeze.
i dont think its the fall of marvel, i thinkdisney thats marvel and star wars add dc to that have all made mediocare to terrible movies and shows too many times in a row and people have simply given up. i havent seen lock season 2 because apart from andor that i lloved i have hated most tv shows relating to marvel and disny. And the disney name to me means overreaction and trying to be too politacly correct to its detriment.
I think the MCU should've gone on a 5-year hiatus after Endgame. That way, they would've taken time to build up a proper continuation plot thread and would've given the public time to miss the universe.
Marvel and DC have lost Gen X, arguably their most significant fanbase. I think this is why nothing in the entire geeksphere succeeds anymore. Once Gen Xers "noped" out, it was a wrap for Marvel, Star Wars, DC, WB, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, etc.
If the MCU launched today, half of the movies would have been watched on Disney+ instead of theaters. They keep forgetting that they themselves gave general audiences an alternative to watching B-tier characters in theaters. That's not the only reason why The Marvels is struggling, but it doesn't help. The MCU can't pretend that they changed the entire business model.
@@realdavidjones1623 a full reboot would be against what made it successful. No one wants to see new actors potray existing mcu characters The issue is that the disney plus series haven't been great and leading any where
For me, I am excited for Thanksgiving (slasher movie), but admittedly it is because I have been waiting for it since Grindhouse came out. Also, Godzilla Minus One looks awesome, but yeah, nothing else.
As a comic fan, I was excited when the Marvel's was announced. When I saw that the antagonist was a lone Kree person I was very disappointed. Kree again? And a villain I have never heard of. They should be fighting an A-list villain or two. Carol should have fought Ronin at the end of the 1st movie.
Suits is a type of drama show that leans into the DNA of a soap opera compared to things like Billions and especially the more sophisticated style of Succession. However, that is likely also the key reason why it probably attracts a bigger audience on Netflix. Doing a spin-off without that exact type of DNA would be a mistake and is the main reason why the Pearson spin-off failed.
Barbie was successful because it was a BARBIE movie that was very well promoted and showed the best parts of the movie that resonated with a large audience, had nothing to do with Any of the actors involvement. Just like how captain marvel one which was just an above average movie made 1 billion because it was in between avengers 3 and 4. Mcu didn't take enough to build her individual strong fan base so now they are paying the price especially now they made her difficult to write plus this movie looking bad from trailers plus weak promotion plus MCU's bad track record saved by spiderman 3 and guardians of the galaxy.
I think the MCU has honestly just forgotten WHY people have loved superhero movies for decades. Superhero’s are supposed to inspire us and remind us of the best parts of ourselves. They’re supposed to be aspirational characters. Besides Guardians 3, I feel like the MCU has forgotten this simple fact.
I think what Grace said about Ryan Coogler finding the blockbuster “activist” sweet spot with Black Panther is so true! I think the difference is that black panther was such a positive, aspiring movie. It had almost no bitterness to it, while being very inspiring. Too many activist movies come at their material with so much anger and resentment that it’s just not enjoyable to watch.
If it fails, I wonder if the studio is going to use the strike as an excuse for the box office. Every other Marvel film has had a lot of press tours that this one doesn’t. It’s also coming off a series of duds.
@@mythicalsalmon3621 Even then the "series of duds" still includes GOTG Vol.3 and Wakanda Forever, in my opinion not duds storywise, but if you feel that way
The reason I don't get the SAG's asking for a cut of the subscription profit is that I don't thi SAG gets a cut of a films box office or network earnings from advertisers. Some actors negotiate a percentage of the B.O. but thats between actors/agents and studios. Not the union. I'm floored they would ask for a cut of the sub fees. They are giving them a agreed amount depending on viewership of a streaming and network show. This subscription cut is double dipping.
My theatre experiences are nearly positive 95% of the time . Idk why Grace always brings up terrible experiences . Probably a urban city issue more than anything .
Grace, didnt they already make a spin off of Suits with one of the characters and it totally flopped...I know people that loved Suits but without the main cast or at least some of the people it will not do well...Who thought this was a good idea.. I never personally liked it but Gabriel Macht is an underrated actor..
After seeing that the AMPTP flat out refused the SAG AFTRA request for a 0.57 cents per subscriber, I'm real curious what the studios subscriber numbers are. What's the alternative that AMPTP is offering for residuals because I highly doubt SAG AFTRA is going to agree to a deal that doesn't have something being offered for streaming residuals.
It doesn't help that 75% of the line dialogue is delivered in whispering like they're in a library. As much as I like the show so far, it does feel like a slog to get through at times because of the lack of content, slow pacing and quiet, mute atmospheres.
I really hate that Monica is tied to Carol. The two actually have very little interaction in the comics anime no sense to make her some type of sidekick
The Marvels: - the sequel to a film I didn’t enjoy - led by an actress I do not like - featuring characters that you would have to have kept with the Disney+ series to know - it’s an inconsequential film after a series of inconsequential films The real question is why should I pay to go and see The Marvels?
I am 100% planning to see The Marvels and I’ve been excited about it since it’s been announced. Not for Captain Marvel (I didn’t really enjoy the original movie) but for Monica (I loved her in Wanda Vision and would love to see where her story goes) and Ms. Marvel (which was my 3rd favorite Marvel Disney plus show and I really enjoyed the character so far)
Oh and I agree with that one person that is lost in Loki. I think I Binged that one when the episodes were out, but my fish brain couldn’t remember what happened in s1 And I have to say there’s a few shows whose gap in between seasons is killing me. Even the boys next season I’m going to need a recap. Same with invincible.
I don't know if I would call Taylor Swift bland as much I would say she has a very very dedicated audience. I dont know if she appeals to everyone but she has definitely attracted a fanbase that has the ability to spend a lot of time and money on the things she does/releases. She will continue to produce content (and be successful) regardless of whether the general public cares or not. Good for her.
I mean, to reach that level of ubiquity you need to basic enough that you understandable to everyone, the more artistic you go the more niche you become (you can still be very successful, of course). This is not a critique, just pretty much how fame has always worked.
There is a reason Gone with the Wind has never been remade. You don't mess with perfection...Wonka original was perfect and the follow ups are terrible.
Look man, if the movie ends out being bad, it's bad. Yes, the assholes who would cry about this no matter what exist, but you can't let them take away from discussing if a movie is bad.
I didn’t even know tickets were on sale till I heard about the low box office numbers, I hurried to get a ticket and my local theatre is EMPTY opening night I can’t believe it (I mean I can but you know..)
I think if she is offered to return to Suits, Markle should return. It's clear she's more liked as an actress than whatever she's trying to do now. Plus it would help define her beyond just being the wife of a British royal and coasting off of that.
Meghan has been doing philanthropy and volunteering since childhood. There’s video of her at 9 and 10 being on national television advocating for equality and protesting against her friend’s brother doing to war. The only difference is the relentless attacks against her from the media.
I understand your point of being niche and catered to women and then everyone is surprised that the box office is bad BUT the issue is that if it were three men teaming up it would be super successful. If you pitch an idea made by men for Men with men at the centre (fast and furious, the mcu in general, transformers,...) they are considered 4 quadrants movies and that's super unfair. So men appeal to everyone while women only to women. Amazing. So yeah, people saying "this movie won't be successful because it stars women or people of color" are correct because if it had three white men team up it would be successful.
Unfortunately superhero movies are a male dominated genre. Guys like the genre so much more than women so when u do a movie full of women, there’s not as much women who like that kind of movie to go support it compared to a movie full of men
T Swift just needs to not talk, just sing and perform as Swift/Dazzler an original song for the movie, As Dazzler and be killed by Evil Deadpool. Simple 1 minute scene.
Anyone worried about Loki and GenV premiering opposite the NFL on Thursday nights? Prime Video highlighted the game last night when I logged in. GenV appeared as a smaller icon underneath.
It’s just so strange that they have decades of comic book storylines and dialogue to go by and they decide to not capitalize on that. Barbie had funny, smart, and heartfelt moments that were earned. All these other movies just become very paint by numbers. Nothing will probably get better until Fantastic Four, and with the casting maybe not even that.
Post end game MCU has been so abysmal I just don’t care anymore , I saw guardians and liked it but at this point I don’t have any intention of going to marvels , most likely dead pool 3 will be the next maybe for me
The stream was entertaining and informative as always unfortunately I mossed it. I expected the low box office for the Marvels ever since Quantumania but I'm still looking forward to seeing it❤
For a movie ensemble to work, there must be a balance between male and female presence. I think that is the problem with a lot of movies targeting only one target audience, and this goes for both female and male-centric movies. You must balance it out with the other gender, although I do not mean that there must be a 1:1 ratio as in, if there is 5 women and there must be 5 men to balance it out, but rather feel as if it is a 1:1 ratio. Have the few men/women in a male/female centric property have an equal importance or at the very least be highlighted as much the main characters. That's why Barbie works, because Ken was given equal importance to Barbie in the grand scheme of things, in this case he is the deuteragonist, so that very much balances it out. Another example, would be for instance, characters who are not deuteragonist but their presence can be felt to the point that they make an impact. For instance, with Captain America Winter Soldier, it is pretty much male-centric and the main protagonists are Steve and Bucky, but the addition of Natasha balances it out so smoothly and you can say that without her the movie does pretty much loses at least something that makes it special; she is integral to the plot.
I don't think that's true. The Charlies Angels(2000) is literally about a team of three women and it was very successful and popular. It all comes down to marketing it in a proper way and telling a great story. If this movie had a well known villain and maybe had adapted a popular storyline from the comics people would've been more interested. This movie should've been Captain Marvel: Secret Invasion.
@@Rafael-vg1ou hmm, yeah, you got good point there, forgot about such movies. I guess in this sense, the stylistic choices that make the movie is the necessary balance to elevate the movie without feeling preachy. Charlie’s Angels, I think to some degree, helps them that they lean on the ridiculousness of their own action scenes/moves. With the point of adaptation, I stand to disagree because the general audience (which is what they want to appeal to) is not well-versed in comic books. The movie should be able to stand on its own, regardless of the source material. Sure, it’s a nice bonus for comic book nerds like us, but not really relevant in general. It’s “better” when they adapt because some comic books are already well-written so they basically already have the blueprint done if the wanted to. Same with villains, like it doesn’t really matter if it’s a well known villain but rather convey in the trailers the importance/presence of a villain, which this marketing fails at and maybe for a good reason; maybe the villain is a throwaway character. When they have well-written villains they usually emphasize that in the marketing.
I started watching Frasier last night and was actually surprised I liked it. I wish Niles and Daphne were there, but it was ok without them. I'm always hesitant about Kelsey Grammer because of his politics, but I'll give the show a chance.
What does an actor's politics have to do with anything? I am a libertarian. If I only watched things made by people who agree with me, I would only watch Michael Malice and Thomas Woods Jr.'s podcast.
I wasted my time and money seeing the shit-show that was Ant-Man: Quantumania opening weekend. I was so disappointed in Marvel, I refused to see GOTG vol. 3 in theaters despite the good reviews, and I ended up regretting that decision after watching it on Disney+. So I’m not paying these outrageous NYC ticket prices UNLESS The Marvels (and all upcoming MCU movies) has really good reviews, even then I probably won’t see the movie opening weekend.
How is The Marvels an activist movie? Lol it’s literally a super hero movie showing the linked powers of 3 characters that just so happen to be women. I feel like whenever people see anyone non white, they auto think of buzz words instead of people. Yall are weird fr
I think because the mcu is on a path of silliness now, it seems they try to excuse their terrible writing and sloppy direction towards poc/queer characters, it’s a shame. But yeah this isn’t an activist movie.
I'm balancing Loki, and season 3 of Chucky. Im enjoying Chucky a lot more...shocking level of graphic violence I didnt know was allowed on basic cable 😂! You'd get carded at a movie theater! The flag suffocation death was network tv/basic cable level, thats what normally gets by 😂. The other death was uh... Loki season 2 is just kinda there, its like an add on to the Chucky viewing 🙂
You know, grace, I think perhaps it’s time for you to be equal in your “oh don’t treat things with hate” attitude m, ESPECIALLY when you keep hanging women out to dry. I have seen you do things like point out the difficulties and disparities in the film industry that women face, but literally laugh at Reece Witherspoon, laugh at her, for producing where the crawdads sing because you thought it was hilarious that she was actually relevant. Now you say “don’t hate on the marvels for being what it is. Critique it but don’t hate on it because that’s not okay. I don’t condone it.” You talk about poorly handled projects and soapbox how they should be treated and then continuously dump on Taylor swift, seemingly thinking that saying you like her music, though depending on what day it is you will further qualify that by deciding you have the authority to talk about the quality of her different albums. You out and out called her an “absolutely awful actress” while laughing freely. You told her to stay out of the NFL. I’m sorry, grace, but is she supposed to hide in a dungeon to watch her new boyfriend play football? How about you stop taking cheap shots at Taylor swift and other women in the film industry because actually, the way you laugh and mock people and your tone of voice is actually quite nasty. Perhaps you should take a moment and think about how you come across because I think it’s hypocritical “quite frankly”
Not everyone watches the shows/series when they drop onto streaming; I’m watching Loki with a friend, and we need to wait until the Weekend; itching to watch Episode 2, and just trying to avoid Spoilers; so, I also stay away from my regular reactions & Easter Egg videos… please don’t write off the shows until after weekends.
I loved the movie too. Not sure why critics and audiences were so harsh on it. Maybe because it lacked the usual MCU comedy? I liked the switch in tone personally and it stands out from the other mcu movies
Shehulk had great an unique endearing characters. Like they were almost all memorable which is very different than some of these other shows. Story-wise it was alright, but the characters made it worth it.
I'm not a Captain Marvel fan, but I must admit that I'm pretty curious to see the marvels. But I'm disgusted with all the misogyny surrounding the movie. It's truly disgusting 🤢🤢
I genuinely have no interest in seeing The Marvels because I still don’t understand the point of aligning these 3 characters together in lead roles. Would’ve much prefer a more secret invasion esque story.
I was a MCU and Star Wars superfan but i checked out of Secret Invasion after the 2nd episode, was planning to watch Loki but just haven't got round to it (and lowkey could just never end up watching it). I watched the Mandalorian s1 +2 but not seen Bad Batch, Boba, Obi Wan, Andor or Asoke bcs I've not finished Clone Wars and not watched Rebels. I'll get there w Star Wars but MCu I think is dying and I believe it is irreversible.
Does the Marvels involve homework like Ahsoka did? If you didn't watch the Disney+ shows that tie in to this and only saw the first Captain Marvel, will you be lost watching the Marvels?
Grace i think from the start MCU shows should of been the equivalent of DC unconnected Elseworld projects as it feels like the shows were the beginning of the MCU problems...
I hate when people use the "Ant-Man and The Wasp being in the mix" when talking about how Captain Marvel made so much...No it wasn't. Ant-Man and The Wasp was out on Blu-Ray and Digital before Endgame Came out. So, like many other people, I didn't go watch Ant-Man and The Wasp in theaters because of that. However, Captain Marvel was in Theaters only a month prior, to Endgame, so you HAD to go see it in theaters to be up-to-date on everything Marvel going into Endgame.
