@bearwoodcraft3591 a velocity stack is a aluminum adapter and foam filter that replaces the stock filter base and HD filter. It doesn't allow you to run the stock cover but in my humble opinion is the best filtration system for the 500i and also gives the saw a bit more low end torque.

You have to cut the plastic covet any to let air in.i bought new 500i recently for back up and got both the velocity stack from west coast Gordy and the max flow buut mechanic s and saw builders say you have to cut the side solid peice off the cover and make the side SLITTS bigger as they are for show and dint allow air to circulate as the saw is designed to like when the crap stock filter is in there's like half inch almost of gap for circulation they say that the max flow will clogg after little use ???I'm asking you and the interweb??max filter is much larger and barley fits .the actual filter not cover .cutting part i hear is for air on black cover .mine seems to fit but have been waiting to get it ported somewhere and to hear about this issues..I run west coast filter uni.s on my 462,s and it's perfect other than when cover goes on it squeezes oil into the saw s carb area s ..I rather run extra oil then not enough .thanks any help be great

I did not do any cutting or modifying of the max flow. It seems to do pretty good as long as the filter is oiled up really good. Looks pretty clean in there. As far as restricted air flow...I think that can be an issue with the rain cover being a bit to close to the filter...seems like it needs to be brushed off once or twice a day depending on the cutting conditions. Overall the Max Flow is a vast improvement over the stock filter ....but Im still looking. There may be a better option then both...just not sure what that would be yet.

@@norcaltimberfaller1943 the velocity stack from Gordy west coast is far far far better .only problem is its not for running in the rain but easy to install. Just screws on over carb after talking off the the stock one then it hose clamps on filter its amazing. But not in rain...I have west coast filters on my 462 and velocity stack on 500i it's what they run Logging as well.but I'm in east Tennessee so need to use max flow in winter rainy or rainy day's...but the hose clamp filters from Gordy are best out there NOTHING CAN GET IN.inless you break it sonehow.ive ran them several years and it's game changer..in performance and filtering. I use the uni oil put it in ziplock and swoosh around all over the filter them squeeze it off. Also I started useing maxima formulafab1 spray oil.and or belray..the uni seems best but it's like more messy but works great ..I run them on 500i 462 and 661 ...last long time just blow off outside area carb area and fins.daily .then I keep a few back filters ready to change at night but I'm a tree service I do some felling here in mountains and land clearing .but mostly residential. Rural farms exctra ..check out west coast saws...site...I run there suspension kits it's a must and bark box of coursd

Theblack cover needs to have holes cut out to breath .I found out from Jhon and jack .at hotsaws 101..he knows saws for sure

Yes....I agree...its almost as if the air filter was a vague after thought.
