More cars: www.dw.com/driveit Californian Guy Newmark has been driving his 1964 Porsche 356C for close to half a century. He's put over 997-thousand miles on the odometer, with some help from German-born mechanic Fred Busche.
Half a Century, not half a decade - he and his father before him have owned the car since they bought it from the original owner, who only owned it for 3 months. Thanks for the video! Love this story! Makes me want to buy a newer 911 and create a similar story over the next 50 years. :-)
As the owner of similarly loved cars (a 1991 Honda, and a 1992 Lexus), which I also came to love in university, this video is car goals. Because I split the driving between 2 cars, though, I probably won't reach a million before running out of time. lol
I have a question about your filter magnet that's mounted on your oil canister. I'm curious because I have a 1968 912. I've seen other photos (from various vendors) where the magnet is mounted to the oil filter itself - how effective is it to mount it to the oil canister housing? I'd prefer to just mount it to the housing but want it to be as effective as possible. Congratulations on a great car and great driver who is obviously so conscientious!
Probably expensive, but think about it this way, he hasn't been buying/leasing a new car every 2-5 years for decades and decades... in the end, he's probably saved a couple hundred grand over his lifetime.
Store shops sell them for $900-1300 for german crank or a billet crank for $ 2000 and $700 for a Chinese one which are good for a street car but some folks "racer guys"say there junk 🙄. I've got lucky a couple times and bought some German cranks for 400 each at sweapmeets if a seller just wants to get rid of his vw/Porsche parts so it really depends how you look and who's selling for cheap ..bc there are deals out there and guys who just want to make a quick buck and sell for cheap ...
