This is why this is so believable to me. I was sexually abused by my father ages 4-9. My mother blamed me for it so badly I decided to pretend I didn’t remember the abuse. I kept the secret for 35 years. Until one day an astute friend asked me why I talked about how much I hated my mother but I never mentioned my father. I was shaking so badly while I told her the truth. I wrote a blog post about how hard it was to keep secrets and maybe if I hadn’t been keeping this big family secret it would be easier. One of my aunts saw the post and sent my other aunt to talk to me. Turns out my father did the same thing to her and MY MOTHER KNEW ABOUT IT. She said my mother was angry with her. Which means my mother knew my father was a pedophile BEFORE she married him, married him anyway, and had daughters with him. Mothers do this. They need to keep that man so much they will sacrifice their own children to do it.

Their explanations of abuse do not explain why they shot the mother 15 times. They already had a fair trial. The parents were UNARMED when the sons killed them. The alleged past abuse is not a legal self-defense argument. The abuse is a one sided story. If the abuse accusations are true one could argue it was consensual and they liked it since they kept living there after they turned adults.

My "father" physically, psychologically, mentally and verbally abused me, my 4 siblings and our mother. From ages 4-12, he sexually abused me. He stopped sexually abusing me when I grew big enough to fight him off. It's during this time I suspect he began sexually abusing one of my sisters, who has become a transgender male. People have no idea how traumatizing it is to divulge this abuse, only to be told what was said to me by my mom when at age 12, I finally told her about the abuse. Her response was "get out of here you liar ". This was as devastating as the sexual abuse. This kind of abuse wounds the spirit, soul and mind. It does horrible, horrible damage. I believe these brothers. They had every right to unalive any monster who abused them in this way. If the mother knew, as mine and millions of other mothers do, but turn a blind eye in denial, the mother is just as guilty.

Hold up. Just because Ricky did not speak up does not mean he was abused by Jose Menendez. There is a timeline difference of when Jose was managing that group and when Ricky joined the music group act. Sometimes predators do not go after the main star because they are too famous or the main star is being abused by someone above Jose's level so Jose might have backed off if Ricky's abuser was Jose's boss, etc. Also, it is Ricky's story to tell when Ricky is ready to since Ricky would have been an abuse victim. @@Libbathegreat Well, NEITHER brother testified that the mother was sa them as adults! Erik testified Kitty was addicted to prescription drugs and "out of it" the day they killed her! Lyle testified he discussed killing the parents with Erik days before they killed them. Thus, there is no justification for them killing Kitty Menendez! Whether or not they were abused as children is irrelevant by the law when they killed their parents as adults. That is retaliation NOT self-defense, especially against the mother. The parents were unarmed! There was a stack of college applications next to Kitty that Erik testified she had filled out! Whatever happened to a sa victim just moving on and going to college and moving on with their life? There is no legal justification for retaliation murders. Retaliation is not the right choice and unfortunately the evidence proves the parents were unarmed at the time of abuse and the brothers' testimonies do not provide justification for killing Kitty.

@@cjking4511 My understanding here is that the debate is not "should they have gone to prison", it's "how long should they have been in prison". I think it's pretty clear that whether Kitty was "SAing them as adults" or not, she fully knew about the abuse and enabled it. Considering what we know now, they would not have gotten nearly the sentence they did. Retaliation killings never work out in the best interests of the abuse victims. @@cjking4511 In law, there are such things as mitigating circumstances in sentencing. Lifelong SA by one's parents is one such mitigating circumstance. That can even be taken into consideration when your parents aren't the victim. It might not get you very far if the victim was someone other than your parents( your spouse or a randomly targeted person), but even in those cases, a defendant is well within their rights to argue it. And the judge or jury imposing sentence is within their rights to consider it when making their decision. These days I believe it's more likely than not that such consideration would have gotten the brothers a lesser sentence than life. And I stand by your comment being disgusting, because it was.

That is NOT relevant because she spent 53 years in CA prison before getting parole! The Menendez brothers have only served around 30 years. The issue with the Menendez brothers is their legal defense NEVER wanted to get onboard with joining the fight for youth offenders sentenced to life in prison without parole getting parole! There are 6,166 youth offenders in CA serving life sentences without parole. The majority are black! The Menendez brothers never wanted to get behind the fight for granting parole to the 6,166 youth offenders and never filed numerous motions for parole for themselves. The woman you are talking about filed for parole 20 times before she was released!

@@cjking4511 It IS relevant. The Manson group was originally sentenced to death and their sentences were commuted to life in prison, NOT without the possibility of parole. I was sexually abused most of my childhood by an older male cousin. And I'm a male. I told my multiple family members and no one believed me and they literally acted like they didn't hear me or act like I never told them or that I'm making it up. They still continued to invite that cousin to family functions and that I was at and never ever had my back or said anything about it. I literally feel some days that maybe it didn't happen and maybe I'm making it up in my head. But I know for a fact it happened at have very very vivid memories of it. But still to this day no one believes me or has done anything. And it's one of the main reasons I've had a horrible opioid addiction my whole life and have attempted suicide multiple times. I feel for these brothers and for everyone who was SA by a close family member or by anyone period. 20 years later Im still haunted by it.

I read your comment. I believe you. What you described about doubting your memory is known as gaslighting. I hope you are doing better and can overcome your addiction. You deserve to live a happier, peaceful life. Suicide is not the answer. You didn't abuse anyone and shouldn't punish yourself. You are innocent. For your own mental well-being it would be best to avoid , if possible, family gatherings where that cousin is likely to be. Also I think it might be beneficial for you if you got some sort of counselling. Best wishes for your future. ❤

@@misskay8131 Lyle did ask specific people to lie for him. Those being two of his ex girlfriends and one of Erik's friends. However much of that comes from long before the first trial started and one of them who testified for the prosecution did say that Lyle had called him during the first trial and told him to drop everything. In one of these letters he sent to Erik's friend he insinuates that his lawyers have no idea and that Erik would rat him out and that's exactly what happened. This witness never testified during the first trial because Erik had told his lawyers that the persons story wasn't true. Lyle certainly made some bad decisions while in jail (since he never wanted to talk about the abuse) but that doesn't mean their defense was fabricated. None of those people were ever asked to lie about abuse and if this was such a common thing you'd fully expect to see a whole lot people coming out and saying "Lyle asked me to lie for him" but no one else ever has. You don't have to take him at his word but Lyle has said he only did this prior to agreeing to talk about the abuse himself. According to him, his lawyers and his family he was refusing to testify about the abuse for a very long time.

Considering up to 60% of us have gone through degrees of childhood trauma, of course, they were abused. Something broke in their brains. It happened with Lizzy Borden. They also murdered their parents. Two things can be true. I also don't believe they are a danger to society. But they shouldn't have children. Unless they undergo extensive childhood trauma therapy beforehand. However, our society is much too archaic to absorb those concepts. We're a shame, and blame-based nation.

Originally I probably suspected what the jury thought , and I, too, didn't believe their 'lies'. But now, honestly after seeing this, I've changed my mind. What they did was still horrific, but now I know why it could have happened and is therefore far more understandable. Not right, but understandable. I also now believe that they were telling the truth about the SA. Even when I was their age, (18-21) and even though I was also technically classed as an adult, I would have had no clue how to have left that situation and somehow manage to live away from my parents. The idea would have terrified me. I think they've done their time, and should be released.

Former DA Ms. Lacy seems to have a very strong opinion about the intentional, premeditated acts of these men. What makes her qualified to give such an opinion. It certainly isn't evidence-based. While you "CANT condone vigilantism" you absolutely CAN establish pretty clearly that there was sufficient evidence to support the fact that these two boys were severely abused for their entire lives and lived in constant fear. Unless you've endured this kind of trauma yourself you cannot possibly imagine the damage it does to a persons mental health, development and cognitive function. Let them out for Christ sake. Their entire lives have been completely destroyed through no fault of their own. Let them reclaim SOME joy. Talk about cruel and unusual....disgusting.
