Thank you. I have a pup that was sold to me as an "isabella merle" no dna to back it up. However, he has 2 colors with the white background which per your description would be a tweed . I'll find out soon for sure, I have a dna collection kit on its way

What happens if you breed a double merle to non merle? What would the babies be and would they be healthy? Maybe you could make a short video to explain thanks

I doubt it but I don’t know the regs for those breeds

I always thought it was Mm. The "M" was capitalized because it's a dominant gene.

By convention it lower case if present

@@LoveMyPups hi, its on video w flash on, i have one merle w red eyes glow (coco) and 2 merles with no red eyes glow one is( co/co one is none)
@jessrytay1
@jessrytay1 5 месяцев назад
some merles have red eye glow due to being cocoa or brown and SOME merles will have red eye glow if the merle has crossed into the eye....usually the dog will have blue or green/yellow eyes from the merle crossing into the eye and diluting the pigment. pied dogs can have blue eyes and red eye glow simply because the pigment deletion of white has crossed into the eye causing dilution of the eye color. blue eyes, green eyes, yellow eyes, will cause red eye glow.
@sonnguyen-wo4vq

@jessrytay1 I have both merles ,one is coco Bb, and wnother is Bb, both don't have red eyes glow, I have another coco (not merle) have red eye glow
@jessrytay1
@jessrytay1 5 месяцев назад
@sonnguyen-wo4vq what colors are of the dogs' eyes? they need 2 copies of Cocoa or 2 copies of Brown/choco to have red eye glow. if the dog is bb or has 2 copies of Cocoa then the dog should have light colored eyes and this will cause the eyes to glow red. also, a dog who is merle will have red eye glow ONLY if the merle has crossed into the eye. not all merle dogs have red eye glow- this is because the merling has not crossed/touched the dogs eye or eyes or in other words, the dogs merle gene did not travel into the eye or eyes
@MLangevin

Merle is an incomplete dominant so is represented using an uppercase letter of M. Lowercase "m" represents non-merle. This is very standard information that you have incorrect.
@LoveMyPups
@LoveMyPups 7 месяцев назад
The excepted convention is lower case for recessive genes Mm merle MM not merle etc
@MLangevin
@MLangevin 7 месяцев назад
@@LoveMyPups he is saying that MM is non-merle in the video.
@LoveMyPups

@MLangevin
@MLangevin 7 месяцев назад
M is Merle m is non- merle. This is very standard information that he is getting wrong. D locus and M locus are not the same as the example you are giving. Dilute is recessive and requires a dog to be d/d in order to be dilute. The merle pattern is dominant and represented by M not m/m as he keeps claiming in the video.

I believe our dog is an atypical merele. She only has a few patches of spotting otherwise looks like a fawn. The spotting is not over her entire body.
@jessrytay1

Harlequin(H)is a merle modifier located on the H locus and only found in great Danes and great dane crosses. HARLEQUIN MERLE (Mh)is a type of merle on the M locus. Harlequin and HARLEQUIN MERLE are different genes. Frenchies do not have Harlequin(H) but they do have Harlequin Merle(Mh) and it is not called merle harlequin. it's called HARLEQUIN MERLE. A capital M means the dog is positive for 1 copy of merle. the lower case m means the dog is NEGATIVE for one copy of merle. Two capitals mean MM the dog has TWO copies of merle. One capital M and one lower case m Mm means the dog has 1 copy of merle and 1 copy of non merle. Two lower case mm means the dog has ZERO copies of merle. I am just a few mins into this video and have already found incorrect information on the Merle(M) locus so I don't think I will be watching any farther into the video
