I’m going to be buying a BC button melodeon never played a musical instrument before plenty new ones for sale what should I stay clear of.

Hello Graham, I would recommend a Hohner (ideally second hand, made in Germany) if you like a fairly light box, or if you want to invest a bit more money and don't mind a somewhat heavier box, a Paolo Soprani accordion would be a good choice. Enjoy your playing. 🎵

You're playing a lot of A/ E bass there? Or are the basses tuned differently?

I'm looking at getting my first first button accordion but not sure if I should get a b/c box or a c#d box what would you recommend

It depends on what sound you want. Most Irish accordion players these days use a b/c, so it might be easier to get hold of one. And the playing sounds smooth on a b/c. Some people say that the c#/d is easier to learn, but I'm not sure that's correct. If you're new to the instrument, both tunings are new to you anyway, so you might as well learn b/c. I wish you happy playing. 🎵
