The METS Are STRANGE

The Mets have the highest payroll in baseball, yet they're projected to miss the playoffs. What could explain this, and why could it be good for them? The Mets just signed J.D Martinez and capped off an offseason where they signed plenty of mid-tier players. To some Mets fans this was probably heartbreaking and disappointing especially after missing out on Yoshinobu Yamamoto earlier on in the offseason, but this might turn out to be really good. The Mets have are gonna be paying over $300 million in salaries this year, and selling all of their players at the deadline could serve to be amazing for them in the next couple of years. They'll likely be buyers at the end of the 2024 season with all of the new space and prospects that they picked up during the season. In my opinion, the 2025 MLB season is gonna look really good for them. Let me know what you think down below!

Dude, stop jumping the gun. Watch they turn into this season's Tampa Bay rays and have to buy at the deadline.😂

As a Mets fan I am very happy with this offseason. Yea we have a lot of dead money but when we signed those scherzer/verlander/etc deals those were risky BUT they were all short term deals. This offseason was so top heavy that when we missed out on Yomamoto there was no reason to spend cohens money just to spend it. That’s what got us with a ton of dead money/tax to begin with. Stearns and Cohen got a bunch of guys who a few years ago were very respectable players and this is a “bounce back” deal for them. Obviously not all of them will bounce back but some will (hopefully lol). And then after this offseason we will have a TON of money free up for a much much better FA class next offseason. But for this season specifically people forget this team won 101 games 2 years ago. A majority of that core is still here. Not saying the Mets are a 100 win team by any Means but don’t be surprised if the Mets surprise people

And on top of that we have a very solid farm system now after last trade deadline

Last year's 75 win team had a really off balance roster because they weren't planning on a lot of the injuries they had and on giving up on the season half way through. We had something like 10 different starters and countless relievers get major league innings for us. This year's roster is technically a lot more modest, but it should perform better because it's constructed with all the roles filled from day one. I think 85 wins is not out of the question for the Mets.

You are going to see a lot of movement this year also so not sure where you are seeing 10 more wins from last years team. We won't even have Senga until God knows when and even then how long before he gets back into sync? The entire pitching staff except for Diaz are all question marks at best. I'd love to see some miracle run but it really would be a miracle if it happened this year

Mets fan here and I like all the one yearn deals for the fact that the team is still paying out Max and Justin, which adding 60 million to a payroll will definitely get you to the luxury tax. Sure Steve Cohen is a multi billionaire, but who wants to pay 110% of anyone’s salary? I think they did the best they could, they signed Martinez for a few reasons, Vientos didn’t impress in spring training, fan pressure, realized nobody internally could impact at the DH level and JD agreed to defer some of his money which helped out with the payroll tax for sure. I think they’ll overachieve a bit in 2024 and make some big moves in the off season next year.

This season will be interesting. contrary to popular belief, this season can go either way. A lot will depend on pitching. As far as hitting, they have real potential. 2 Star hitter in Lindor and Pete. If Marte is healthy and McNeil return to form, a couple really good prospects hopefully ready to take the next step, I wouldn't be surprised if they beat expectations. Pitching well that's the biggest question mark. With that said, I'm expecting a better than .500 club

JD Martinez and Alonzo will be the tandem lynchpins to this lineup. The other bats are just so streaky and inconsistent.

Biggest problem i see with the Mets is Mendy at Manager this guy is already making a mess out of the lineup he reminds me of Rojas

I was aiming for 2026 to give the kids some seasoning at the MLB level. They only need about 2 of these recent/current prospects to hit their projections for this to work out. McNeil and Alonso could also both bring back, if not prospecr "hauls" at the deadline, then solid returns. Their 2026 lineup: CF- Jett 2B- Acuña LF- Nimmo C- Alvarez SS- Lindor RF- Gilbert DH- Clifford 1B- Vientos 3B- Baty (or Houck) Only 2 guys over 30 in that above lineup. Pitching staff will be the main wild cards, but there are some live arms that are ready to pop, and probably soon.

You don't have to win 100 games just get a wild card spot and see what happens just ask the Dodgers 100 plus wins doesn't guarantee you a WS.

Since the Mets aren't expected to win in 2024, Lindor will finally have his MVP season. Much like Jose Reyes, Francisco plays his best when there's no pressure, and winning doesn't matter.

Who do they pay? Their best player is Pete and he a free agent. Where all the money go? They are the highest pay playing like a small market team.

The Mets have Scherzer Verlander McCann coming off the payroll at the end of this season, which is over 50 million in dead money. That's not counting free agents to be like Quintana Severino JD Martinez amongst others. The Mets farm is ranked 8th by Baseball America.

Bro, the Yankees get more pub than anyone else. Just because EVERY video isn't about them doesn't mean they're forgotten. Ever since Ruth, they haven't gone in a 1 title in 23 seasons drought like they're in now. So it hasn't been business as usual over there for a long time.
