Her irritation with the detective is ridiculous. Like seriously calm the hell down and stop ASSUMING they're not doing enough because he's not "reacting " the way you want. Geez
True!!! Omg...she is irritating with her " witty" comebacks. What are the cops supposed to be doing when the abduction JUST STARTED!!! Not my favorite and my first audio of James Patterson...
Agree! Spoiler alert: She was egotistical and insecure. I get being single mom who has to work and be away from her kid, but I feel like she literally neglected him to go play detective and talk to foreign gangsters like she is an uncover cop, when she is just putting their lives at risk. Then she judges anyone within earshot like she is their doctor, therapist, drug counselor, life coach, police officer, child protective service officer, etc...her downstairs neighbor is the real hero.
While this particular MC isn't the greatest, the only thing any of the characters are supposed to do is make us feel; good, bad, Every emotion on the gambit.
One of, if not, my least favorite books I've ever read. The fact that Lucy, the annoying karen midwife was included in the investigation at all, much less out undercover, was the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. She then gets angry with the detective (who should be fired for including her on the investigation) at every little thing. Plenty of other very unrealistic things occur, and I know, its a just a book, but cmon.
you're right, those details can ruin a story. they simply didn't research this well. which, i can't understand because you can learn most of these things with a quick google. no excuse for a seasoned author like Patterson. but having said that i thank the person who gifted us with this book and others.
Why is the main character so impulsive though? Also, is she supposed to come across as desperate for companionship, why is she breathless and swept off her feet by every male counterpart?
I really liked the story, but the last 45 minutes were really stupid. No spoilers from me but I don’t like the way it ended. Lucy was hard to like. Entitled self important and whiny. She acted as if she’s the most important person in the world with the most important job.
100% agree about Lucy. Like one of the typical non police people inserting themselves in cases with the police from those 70s, 80s and 90s kind of shows. But she is the Most Superior acting and thinking person among them and she has no sense. Like a relative as a former officer in a different state makes her "qualified"!? A very unlikable character.
I agree..but as a nurse that has had to work a lot of exhausting hours, I've seen really good et emotionally strong people break down et exhibit crazy, bizarre, unreasonable et psychotic behaviors due to sleep deprivation et pure exhaustion..I loved the detective et his over use of "Listen Lucy"..call me crazy, but I'd love another story with Leon and Lucy..
Lucy in her passion for the babies comes off more than a little 🤪 crazy..but give the poor woman a break..real life hospital situations are even more challenging than what was described here..medical personnel work without adequate rest..the ones that really care as Lucy does are often misunderstood et..just the navigation of getting to work using subways sounds exhausting..I have to agree 👍 there were many times in the story I had to take a break..but all in all..I recommend sticking it out..the characters will grow on you..
That labour for the twins sounds absolutely manic and traumatic. Three midwives panicking and dragging the mother around and into the shower. I would imagine in real life this mother would suffer PTSD!
I wonder why the protagonist was so shocked when she found out who the weakly diabolical villain was? After all, the plot was so thin that I’m sure almost every listener knew within the first few paragraphs of the character’s introduction. This was just like watching a half hour TV show. Oh well, thanks for uploading anyway!! 😊😊
Used to annoy me too a lot but came to find out they use it to skip through copyright issues.I don’t have the know how but saw it on one of the threads.Iam grateful for the free audio books❤
At 5:25:04 , there is a break in the reading, an interruption of music, right in the middle of a sentence for a minute or two, but seems to pick right up with the continuation of that sentence... I'm a little irritated, but since I fast forwarded to find out, I'm not completely put off.
As a nurse, the book lost all credibility when it claimed that a nurse would restrain a patient who is not a harm to themself or others, and without a doctor’s order. We don’t get to just tie people down!
@@MegaSmk I agree, like the fact that theyd include a midwife in on the investigation at all or send said midwife undercover at all with a human trafficker . Insanely ridiculous lol
My childhood I was TERRIFIED by mean hateful nurses .I was told at 6 monsters swam the floors to eat kids who got out of their beds. So please sometimes people just Suck nurse or not.
Very poor, James Patterson when writes on his own is a different class, but when writing with someone they always lack that edge. Well read, but poor storyline with some shocking gaps in research!
Twice now, the word "cavalry" has been mispronounced as "Calvary" - as if the two are the same! She apparently does not know how to pronounce "apoplectic", either. She said "apo-lectic". If one has have never seen or heard of the word, one might think that is a typo, but It's really not likely to happen especially in that sequence due to the letters' placement on a qwerty.
Right!!! Im 1:45 in and im thinking, how come she doesn't mention to the detective, the nurse she hates saw the person who took the pregnant girl down to the boiler room?
Is this somehow unrealistic as far as having a baby in hospital setting? I think it would be almost too hard to believe that she hits a withdrawal stage of the day she goes into labor
The book is ok but the protagonist is annoying. She is self-absorbed and thinks everyone owes her a "thank you", or a pat on the back when she does something well or gets something right. She's a nosey "know it all".
The story was ok but can not stand the lead character. She is an entitled, whiney, know it all thinking she can do whatever she wants including assaulting an officer if she wants to and expects everyone to act as though every little thing she does is the best thing since Betty White lol
Lucy is a pain... She jumps into a police interview as if she belongs there and starts questioning a potential witness even if it is her friend... She wants to know everything and gets so angry if she thinks she was left out. And she lies to her BFF about something so important as the status of her baby. I do not like her. It's the first time I listen to a female narrator, it was different. I love James Patterson but I don't know about this one. I'm 7 hours into the book.
Lucy’s internal dialogue was off. . As nse midwife myself. Once emergency came , one goes into automatic (quietly). & proceed to put knowledge to work. Good story but harrowing Hey I knew it was the slimy doc very early on
Actually a breech birth in a warm shower stops the baby from inhaling before the head is out. Once a baby body feels the cold air when born they start to breath. The warm water keeps the babies temperature similar to inside the amniotic sack in the womb
I really like Lucy, my father's mother's people came from West Virginia. Up in the mountains and, and they could be a little crazy, then my grandmother was I'm not really sure why but it wasn't a good kind of crazy she was very pushy very aggressive for a woman from the 40s she was born at the beginning of the 20th century. But I like Lucy she's asserting herself that's so much better than people who can't speak up for themselves and she would have had years of experience cuz she went with her mother and usually a midwife from the mountains and it passes through the family little girls they start real early assisting their mother's or grandmother's on birth and babies most of the time their parents had anywhere from 8 to 15 kids, without knowing the background on people I can't imagine people understanding it but she knows all that. Because in the story line she mentioned all about that too the listeners, and she has a lot of good points and I don't blame her for getting upset I wouldn't live in New York City if they gave me a hundred million dollars. I'm 4 hours in and I'm really enjoying the book so far I don't know why but that doctor that was flirting with her, did anybody else get a really weird odd vibe off of him ? He's odd maybe a little bit of narcissism is going on there his wife who loved him so much and they did so much together then wow just disappeared she's ran off out of fear of him or she disappeared and God only knows where his baby girl is at. I don't know about anybody else but that really seems very weird and a lot of tension and suspense going on there. What is everybody else think about it?
It is 411 in the morning I’m listening to midwife murders. You got a tone Emily care of the down because she she talks too much. She knows she think she knows everything you got to bring her down song cause she makes a lot of mistakes so you can I mean I love all your characters, James Patterson with this character you got a toner down really I suppose that that she thinks he knows everything I mean she’s a good midwife but she gets in peoples faces like that baby. I don’t think he’s gonna take that baby out and had a baby is missing all off and his girlfriend whoever sold baby tell me this right character down as I’m not reading her no more.
I came to the comments because the reading kept getting...interrupted with weird things (singing spanish woman???), learned that, 1. The interruptions are ads...?? LOLOL WTFE, and, 2. People really don't like the main character, lolol. She does seem to depend on her so-called bff a bit too much (I mean, who's with the kid while she's running around a graveyard at 2:30 in the morning????...the bff????!!!...at 2:30 a.m.????!!!!) I'm 5.5 hrs in and so far that was the most ridiculous scenario I've come across. And, does anyone else find Dr. "Rudy" a bit creepy??? FFS, he knows exactly where she lives and she didn't give him the address...creeeeeepyyyyy af !!!
@@moustik31 thank you so much I appreciate that with that book awesome so many people hate Lucy I can't believe it I really like her I think she's going to be up the creek without a pattle soon though
I don’t get why nurses are always put under bad light when nurses are the most present and the majority of them work hard and with empathy. Yes, there are bad and mean ones but bad exists in all professions. I lost interest when all the midwives especially the main character are amazing people and the rest is just either mediocre or mean🙄Not recommended!
Did anyone else not like this character almost from the very beginning I did not like her attitude almost from the very beginning or maybe it was the way the narrator read her part too sarcastic anyone have an opinion? Something rubbed me the wrong way about the character
The book was interesting. The title was misleading. The narrator frequently mispronounced words which was a little off putting. And the last two uploads from this channel had the annoying music break, like WHY?
@@deanneharvey9717 I unsubscribed BECAUSE of the loud ads on here! Every time I ‘Like’ a book, everybody gets their quota and either the loud ads begin, or the book gets yanked. Either way, it only benefits whomever uploads it, not us listeners in the cheap seats 🤬
Enjoying so far but the author’s writing is weak! James puts his name on the books but doesn’t actually write it. I read it somewhere. His earliest books are his but now he uses co-authors who busily do the writing.
I've listened to a couple of Patterson's books and this is definitely not on my favourite list. All this story did was showing what the a female chauvinist acts like that believe she's God sent to the universe who also have a Karen complex. What a waste of 8 hours.
Can't listen to this for long. The narrator sounds far to young for the part. Also the writer wants us to believe this is an experienced midwife, but also one that brakes down and cry everytime a child dies at birth.
@@karenebevanswild115If you say so. I'm not saying nurses are robots. The death of a child is terrible. But one can't function in a hospital if one's too emphatic. Sad but true,
@@spiritualanarchist8162 I get what you’re saying but I don’t know a single nurse who hasn’t cried when they lost a patient, and I worked in healthcare about 10 years. They were good about pulling themselves together and continuing on as needed usually but it’s a really traumatic thing when it’s unexpected especially, or preventable. If it’s clear a patient will die it’s much more business as usual, setting aside feelings and focusing on giving them a peaceful ending but some deaths are just tragic regardless of how long you’ve been around death. Especially the young ones.
Possibly the worst book written by James Patterson. The book is extremely boring and Lucy is so irritating. One is suppose to like the main character not wish she would just shut up. Dr. Sacarr (spelt wrong I know) is a lost puppy when it comes to Lucy. It's sick. The only plus this book has that the Alex Cross series does not have is, this book doesn't have a weird sex scene in the middle of an important case. At least not as of 5 hours and 15 minutes into the book
