I went here when I was around 7 years old with my mom and cousin. While I remember very little of the trip to Carlsbad caverns I vividly remember the mummy room at this museum and the bottomless pit in the caverns. Something about them stuck with my childhood mind, and whenever I've asked my mom about the museum she has no recollection. For a while, I thought maybe I had been imagining the entire place or the mummies were fake, kitschy tourist traps that spooked children and became forgettable to adults. I'm glad to know it wasn't all in my head! Shame it closed down though.

I had the same exact experience. A childhood family trip to the caverns that I remember nothing about, but I DO remember this museum. I've wondered for years if I imagined it! I brought it up to my mom and she asked me how in the world I remembered this place. Something about it stuck in my brain for decades.

They didn't show the mummified native americans or the head in a basket by the alien baby. This place was weird.
