Fabric being more performant, is a myth. Performance mods existed before fabric, all fabric allows is more freedom for mods like terrafirmacraft or gregtech, where community isn't a thing. The entire codebase has barely any modinteraction and if oredict wasn't a thing in minecraft it wouldn't exist in fabric. Yes performance mods sprang of fabric but interesting that the forge ports which are identical have barely any difference in code.

@@Cygnus_MC had a server hoster asking me if I could port chunk pregen to fabric. A year later: not worth it. Minecraft runs equal shit on fabric as forge. And he installes all optimization mods on either side.

There are so many obscure server softwares that probably won't ever see the light. I doubt any of them would be better than what's readily available (purpur, paper, ect.), but it is certainly possible there could be one, it just isn't known yet. Also nice video.

CanaryMod my beloved. I've ran a server using Canary, it and its plugin ecosystem always felt much more polished than what bukkit/spigot would offer. Kinda sad to see it fall into obscurity

No it's not. The developer (Hexeption) has a horrible reputation. Not only that, using hybrid servers is a terrible idea. See here: essentialsx.net/do-not-use-mohist.html (It's about mohist, but the same applies for magma)

I'm surprised you didn't mention magma; its a mash of forge mod support, spigot, and performance patches from papermc. Its a cool project, but from my experience has some compatibility issues with mods. ig its similar to catserver.

0:05 I like how he calls bukkit's forks "bukkit servers" but forge/fabric as "modded servers". Every non-vanilla server is modded my man. They are all patches on top of the built in server. Heck, fabric is LESS modded than bukkit and it's numerous forks, since it modifies essentially nothing about the game by default, where bukkit and it's forks have tons of patches on top of the base game without any plugins

Its more an ease of speaking thing, sure i could list everything fabric does. But for the public it will always be a modded server

small things: -bukkit forges do alow for modification besides the plugin api. it is just inconvient and rather unpopular because of that. folia does not need 16 cores. that is the recomendation based on testing with 200-300 players. it runs just fine below that count.

Yeah i realized that later! However when i tested folia when it came out it would run poorly under 16 cores. Glad to hear they got better, it's really good stuff

The thing I'm most interested in spoutcraft it blew my mind joining servers and having all this custom content and I only had to download the launcher. although I dont remember much but the mods were server side and the client downloaded them while joining? or something like that

@@lazarpro3030 aha, well u can do redstone, casually, tnt deletion can be disabled, and while yes fabric outperforms it, Paper and the bukkitapi has been geared towards specific server types like factions, minigames and just survival. Paper is perfectly good and pioneered a lot of stuff, you just hate it cuz you saw a video from a technical Minecraft youtuber who told you to hate it
