"Mirror, Mirror" was a great hour of classic TV science fiction. This was a nice round table, with guest Walther Koenig.

The “gold tunic” was an avocado green in season 3 polyester versions but appeared gold on screen. The velour versions in seasons. 1-2 were closer to gold.

Laugh ins Henry Gibson was the actor Walter was thinking of, but they dubbed his voice
@christopherleodaniels7203
@christopherleodaniels7203 19 дней назад
They didn’t dub anyone. Vic Perrin looks a lot like Henry Gibson, but Perrin played the Council leader with his own voice. Walter was mistaken, understandably so.

Love this episode, that sparked multiple related episodes across several series, both classic and new! So great to see Walter again! Woo-hoo!!!

What a cool review, and what a treat to see Walter Koenig. I think the fact that a TV show from so long ago is evoking a topical discussion. It's really a testament to how well TOS still holds up even today. The acting and cast chemistry sells it.

Walter’s confusing Vic Perrin with Henry Gibson. The head of the Council was indeed Vic Perrin.

A great review, and I loved Walter's memories regarding it, of course. There were some green uniforms on Kirk a couple of times, when he didn't have a pullover uniform tunic. Unlike many, I am completely fascinated by the Mirror Universe episodes, partly for the dystopian aspect but also because the actors get to give us a nearly completely different character to enjoy. Also, Henry Gibson, as has been said by others, was the actor that Walter was thinking of here. He made poems on Laugh-in and did all kinds of fun stuff. That said, it was Vic Perrin in the episode. ETA: Henry Gibswon did get cast in Star Trek DS9 as the Ferengi Nilva in "Profit and Lace", thank you to Mr GooglePants for pointing me to Memory Alpha for this tidbit.

There is a scene in the third season “Day of the Dove” when Kirk cradles an unconscious Chekov in his arms. I think it was confused to be in this episode.

Was Walter thinking of Arte Johnson from Laugh In? The Halkan actor was definitely Vic Perrin.

It's Henry Gibson that Walter is thinking of, his face and hair style is similar to Vic Perron who is undoutably playing the leader of the Halkin council. Vics voice was used quite frequently in the first two seasons of TOS. He is best knows for narrating the opening sequence of the original Outer Limits series.

For Vulcans, logic is their religion, in a sense. And logic would operate the same way in both universes. I agree with the host's interpretation of the two versions of Spock.

If you're curious about the origins of this universe, there was a star trek farragut episode (fan film) that "created it". Something along the lines of we've created a universe in a bubble and can do whatever we want, but it turned out to be the mirror universe. It's been a while so I don't recall completely accurately. It was interesting. Also the history of this universe can be seen in season 4 of enterprise.

Just passing by to say of course Ive been a huge Star Trek fan since I was a kid many decades ago now. But also want to say I love Walter's movie Moontrap. Rented it many times in the 90s.

Malissa mentioned this being the first use of Dilithium, apparently that's not the case. The alternative factor was apparently a season 1 episode (I'm surprised by that). I tend to skip it because I can't stand it. But they mention it in that. Also muds women mentions lithium, but gene decided it was a mistake and they changed it in later episodes to dilithium. So yeah Alternative factor as far as I can tell was the first. Not this one.

no they were gold. TOS was filmed in color. It wasn't colorized later. There was an exception for a duplicate of the pilot. It's why when it originally aired parts were in color and parts were in black and white. The original print was destroyed to make the minagerie. They restored it with a black and white duplicate. Eventually they found the color scenes that were missing.

With respect, they weren’t using the Nazi salute. That was the Roman salute, closer to what the Ancient Romans and the Italian fascists used as a military greeting. I would say Alternate Starfleet traced its roots to a much older point in human history than the Nazis. I get the sense that something went askew much farther in the past with this alternate iteration of mankind-Maybe even biologically, there’s just more of an edge to the Mirror Universe folk. They’re darker. There is a great delve into this in the STTNG novel, “Dark Mirror.” Sadly, the book is not canon in the TV show Mirror Universe timeline, but it puts forth a more logical and well fleshed out history of mirror mankind and mirror Starfleet, than anything the TV writers ever came up with.

I think the green uniform thing was confirmed by Herb Solow, in his book, was it not? Camera displayed the uniforms as gold rather than green, except in certain scenes, notably when Kirk was wearing the wrap around.

If I recall Spock could not save the Hulkans in the continues episode. I need to see it again. I need to watch all the fan films again. Sadly Vig Magana is captain kirk in continues. When I saw it originally I didn't know how horrible of a person he is. I found out later that he's been banned from tons of anime conventions for sexually harrassing the fans. He got fired from funimation and other anime studios for sexual harassment. He sued funimation and 2 coworkers over it. Not only did he lose, he practically proved his guilt in court. It was dismissed with prejudice. And there was even evidence suggesting he might be a pedo.

The stunt doubles shouldn't have been an issue because of low quality TV back in the day. You had tiny ass sets with super poor signal and only 480 lines of visible resolution. So back in 67 you probably didn't see it, but today it's obvious. I could even see that spock's beard was fake in this episode. I saw like a mesh glued to his face under the beard. You'd never see that on an old TV with poor signal.

Walter plays a menacing juvenile deliquint leader in a B/W anthology Show from the early 60's, a poor Man's SAL MINEO. A bit of Charlie Bronson as well, if you're buying. He got "pyscho eyes." PS Chekov as an actor and character better than SULU. George Takei was best when he had no lines and little acting to do. Just sit there like Billy and don't smile.
