The Misfits Jerry Only says Glen Danzig needs to Repent & Jesus Christ is God. part 2 

Jerry sounds like a pretty typical New Jersey Italian.

I know lots of fans talk shit about Jerry, but I met him last week after a show, and he seemed like one of the most humble rock stars I've seen. He was all about the fans. Stayed after the show almost an hour just to sign autographs for people. Constantly asked "you guys have a good time?" "you all have fun?" "how'd it sound?" It was very cool of him to be that way.

People must've forgotten that Jerry is a nice Italian Catholic guy from New Jersey and he doesn't hang upside down from rafters in castles or live in a casket when he's not out touring. Good on him for speaking his mind, that's what punk is all about.

Honestly, in todays day and age, thats pretty brave for Jerry to come out and say Jesus Christ is his saviour, especially in the punk/metal scene. I dont believe the same thing he does but i respect him for that.

For anyone that’s calling this guy a poser he isn’t punk for saying he’s Catholic and that his band is for entertainment needs a reality check... Most of these famous punk rockstars are fathers and family people... a performance is a performance a lot of times it’s not to be taken literally... this guy is being himself not what is so called Punk

What I love about the Misfits is they never fell prey to drugs, always straight soldiers, And Italians from Jersey and it comes through when they speak...down to earth...Glen included (my fave)

I think Only is more awesome for just saying how he feels. Regardless of how I differ on feelings of spirituality, he wants to be a positive influence and I think the band along with his fans are important to him.

I feel like the Danzig era is the true Misfits, and the "new" misfits is a completely different band, just with the same name.

It's as simple as this for me when it comes to the Misfits... GLENN DANZIG IS WHAT MADE THE ORIGINAL MISFITS SO MAGICAL! Danzig is the reason MOST Misfits fans like the band in the first place, because of all the brilliantly violent, imaginative classic songs he wrote for the band, and for his unique vocal delivery and charismatic presence. They have NEVER been the same band since Glenn departed, despite Only's numerous attempts in vain to HIJACK the Misfits brand, and his constant failure to make one of HIS Misfits lineups the DEFINITIVE version, a task that is simply IMPOSSIBLE at this stage. Whatever chance he had of doing so 20 years ago, he has absolutely NO CHANCE of doing it now. Fiends LOVE the Misfits of old, and, unless Danzig returns, the original band is better off left alone, rather than being dragged around the world by Jerry Only, as all he's doing is dragging the band name into disrepute, with the danger of turning the Misfits into a joke, or a parody of themselves. All true fans of great punk music LOVE the original Misfits with Danzig, and Jerry Only played a BIG PART in the legacy of this EXCELLENT band, who will ALWAYS own a place in the history of GREAT MUSIC, just a pity he doesn't take his own advice (from this interview) and be more conscious not to FUCK UP the integrity of something as precious and beautiful as the legacy of the MISFITS! I am a late bloomer on the Misfits. I started really getting into them like 3 months or so ago.. never knew all the band mates names but I kick myself in the ass for missing out on such kick ass music. I totally dig this band and after seeing this interview with Jerry Only, my respect for him and the band is even stronger. Thank God for people like you Jerry. God Bless You.. Rock on brother.

I can respect his attitude. Horror punk is all about having fun. It's kind of like living every day like it's Halloween. It isn't meant to be taken seriously or necessarily going to a dark place. It's not about satan worship or evil. I mean most of their songs are based on old black and white horror movies. Movies that were fun and maybe a little scary, but not evil. God forbid he make his music kid/family friendly.

He's a "tool" because he's established a moral compass for himself and his family? To be one of the original horror punk musicians and figurehead of the fucking Misfits and to come out without any addiction and to be able to raise his kids in a decent home is pretty remarkable when you look at how most of the musicians of his era have washed up. And not to mention all the shit that gets produced today. As far as Danzig goes, he's just clinging on to an image that he created in the 70's because that's all he has left. Going on "Legacy Tours" pushing himself like he's some rock god. It's only a matter of time before Only calls it quits, but at least he'll go out with some dignity. But I think the biggest question is, where the hell are Michael Graves and Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein? I miss those guys.

The Misfits were kids from New Jersey. They had a magic in a time when Halloween was definitely still fun and our culture had not pushed the envelope off of the table. Now they are all adults. Jerry has a family. He also has a level head and a good heart. How to reconcile that with his career...I think he has done it with grace. He also remains punk - if you look at what the Dead Kennedys said about it in Nazi Punks Fuck Off: "Punk ain't no religious cult. Punk means thinking for yourself."

Jerry is the complete opposite of his brother Doyle, during their interviews. -Interviewer asks Jerry a question, Jerry will give a complete speech to answer the question. -Interviewer asks Doyle a question, Doyle will give maybe a 1-3 word answer. Nothing wrong with either one, huge fans of both. Just funny how opposite they are, in scenarios such as interviews.

just found a new respect for jerry

I met with and did a quick interview with Jerry Only in 07 in Honolulu before the Misfits New Years Evil show (last time I saw the Misfits live was 1982 and 83.) I don't buy religion (I'm at best agnostic but it's pretty easy to say I'm a part time atheist) but Jerry was a really nice guy, let me shoot soundcheck, and gave me all access (we had a mutual friend in Marc Rude, who did their second album cover- so I kind of was lucky to have an in.) But he was a really nice guy, and a pretty agreeable person to be around, considering they had flown 8 hours or so to play a show that while sold out wasn't their usual money-making endeavor.

Just saw them and they kicked ass. That's all I need to know about them. The crowd was going nuts and the band just killed it.

You're one hell of a good man Jerry! With your values your children have a father to be proud of! Back in the 90s Danny & the Juniors were using freelance musicians to compensate for the ones who were either passed away or no longer interested. I played guitar and keyboards with them and also base when we couldn't get our first choice bass player. Years after I retired from performing I taught, and one of my students who was in the punk-rock turned me on to the misfits! I told him these guys are the real deal and I said I can hear some Danny & the Juniors and a lot of other doo-wop bands in their music. Years later I'm seeing this interview with you and now it all makes perfect sense. May our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ do is be with you and I look forward to meeting you in heaven and we can trade stories. Much love and respect to you Jerry from my family to yours.

I met Jerry a year ago and spoke with him for like 30 min. Such a nice guy. I used to not really like him but now he's my favorite from the Misfits. Really humble and funny. Misfits 4 Ever!

Fact (including myself): Everyone is holier than thou in one form or another. We are all hypocrites.

Glen got his creativity from all that dark stuff. That's where his best work came from. I would probably be more like Jerry, but I loved Danzig as a kid. It helped get me through tough times. It may not be a positive "influence", but music doesn't have to be like that. I never went around quoting every musician I liked like it was gospel. I couldn't even understand the lyrics half the time. I just loved the energy and needed to get a little pissed off once in a while as a way of setting boundaries in a tough world(even if it was just in my own head).

I get what Jerry is saying about the powerful influence that musicians have over young fans.. And he is right (and noble) for working toward being a positive role model for his fans. But being a role model isn't why everybody gets in to music. I think Danzig is being true to himself, with his lyrics & imagery, etc. My opinion, Danzig isn't forcing his personal world-view on his fans, he's just expressing it. Jerry & Danzig just (maybe) have different creative motives.
