Wow, for this DJI missing link, but also for the incredible way you have shown us all how it can impact our work / story telling. Thank you. What an amazing job you have done with this !!!!
It’s a good idea but I returned my transmission system and hub because with all the cables and *especially* the high power requirements it’s was just too much for a hand held set up… I do love my RS3 Pro though.. 👍🏿 Can’t wait for the next RS iteration. Slick video as always man. 👌🏿
It blows my mind how the DJI transmission has a sdi out and the monitor has a hdmi input so you can't connect the camera to the monitor with no latency and way less power consumption.
I think you could increase the confort of using all those devices and functions adopting the Rocky gimbal support as we have done, it will allow you to mount the monitor and the handle in proper positions as also the video TX, not last all powered by a single V-lock battery to counterbalance everything.
Always love your content, Adam. I was wondering. Where can I find the bracket you use to attach the Lidar to the Matte box at 5:00 in the video? Keep up the great work!
Great video!! @12:12 what controller are you using to control the RS3Pro? I’m looking for controllers that feel like more professional jib style controllers.
This system and all the pieces needed to use it in various contexts is laughably complicated. I’m really hoping a subsequent versions simplify all the weird bits of kit and cabling. It’s less of an ecosystem, more of a rats nest. Also, yeah. It’s over $4K to get the needed parts to use it without their gimbal.
fantastic video. is there any possibility of listing out the exact components that make up the dji equipment discussed in this video. just trying to price up at the moment with dji here in australia. cheers!!
Thanks for this incredible video Adam. You’re the reason I picked up the same system. I have a question though. Even with calibration and for the most part it works a real treat. But I can’t focus on faces less than 1m. But in your video it looks like you go back really close to the wall? Even though the lens has the range and the LiDAR appears to be tracking the face. It just won’t focus close.

My question is, can I use this range finder, without the RS3, and without the transmission system? It would be so good if DJI could allow us to configure the Range Finder on their mobile app. I have the RS2, and have no desire to upgrade just for the range finder.
Great video! @11:28 you mention that the they both use the same usb-c port. Is it possible to use one with the RSA connection on the side of the gimbal?
Thanks for clarifying things up. It's still a product that to me needs too many piece / extra cables etc. Where I think DJI would need to sell the tilta product in their kit. A 5inch operator monitor for touch control / calibration + compatibility of the tilta wheels on the tilta handle of the tilta advanced ring would be a must and more compact setup. Thanks for clarifying, I'm a Lidar user myself, and it's a great peace of technology, but it needs to be streamlined, clarified and have the complete bundle. I can't wait for the LIDAR V3 ;)
i cant find the adapter for the life of me in tiltas page for the extension focus handgrip, I wish Adam you list these awesome things you use. Hahahahaha be so much easier.
really need a more indepth setup video please! - also how does this work with camera control? Other than the special “bravia” thing.. like on the BMPCC6k for example since lots of use use the USB-C port for external HDrives. also when on the the tilta float.. i wish they made a “combo” handle that would combine both focus and gimble control rather than the “dual” ones which woudl be pretty big on the float’s arm.. not impossible i suspect but awkward…. I currently have a BM5 II wr which can do Bluetooth.. so i am curious how this can work ON Float as well
Good question, CAMERA RIGGING MODS tried this a year ago ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yNQx0njQyhE.html . We have not gotten the solution to work as of October 2023, we believe a firmware update ruined this hack.
There is a video on the DJI channel that shows how to do it on the RS 2; I guess it works on the RS3 as well. But I don’t think it would work without the gimbal.
Fence grabbing this cable and LiDAR since I already have the transmission system but what I’m really hoping for is a 4K transmission system and a version two of this whole system in a neat or cleaner package seems like it was all kind of afterthought. I could see a version two LiDAR coming out pretty soon that has everything built-in and maybe communicates wirelessly similar to the tilted nucleus nano.2
They should just stay in their lane and integrate with Tilta’s Nucleus motor protocol. Many working ACs already carry the Nucleus-M as a backup/indie option, and a budget option to FocusBug that works with the Tilta kit would sell like hotcakes and see a lot of use on professional productions.
Hi Adam, thanks for the informative videos! I purchased a dji transmission and the cable hub hoping that this was all that is needed to use the transmitter/ receiver / monitor and a RS3 lens motor independently without a gimbal. I shoot mainly handheld and hoped I could sell my tilta nucleus M set and only use this system when I hand hold with a focus puller. I can see it working here- but only with the lidar camera. Is there any way it can work - lens motor/ transmission without a gimbal or lidar? I am reluctant to get the lidar- I really cant see myself needing it, and seem a premium and another box on may camera I dont need.
@BestboyAdam What lens-support-system is that at 9:28? I am currently searching for one that works with the dzo pictor zoom and i can see that you managed to find one. Thanks in advance!
I have a question regarding LiDAR RS3 Pro with Highbright monitor with Sony camera. Can I use the LiDAR to focus manually using the Sony internal lens motors with the high bright monitor? I would like to do this so I can use the focus motor to control my zoom.
just a random question....do you think I can use the focus lidar assist on a gh4 panasonic? I'm aware the USB C cable as a different jack from the USB micro but I was wondering if I get an adaptor, would it work?
I get to the last step where it says to focus at 0.7 but no but the option to hit confirm is greyed out? And it’s not measuring the distance on the screen to show me how far I am. Any help would be great.
Do you guys know if this is compatible with the rangefinder and the focus motor of the Ronin 4d? Do I have to buy the RS Range Finder and the RS Focus motor?
Help, im prepping for a shoot tomorrow, and I had a dji rs3 gimbal + hub + monitor in mind. But I don't get it working. Whenever I connect everything the lidar works on the gimbal, but I can't find out how to control everything on the high bright monitor.
ok, I guess it was old firmware that was the issue. The only problem I have right now is the lidar waveform and the focus meter not working, its greyed out as an option.
I can't seem to get my ronin 4d handles to focus pull while using this setup handheld... I dont get the ''AF'' button in the lower right corner and have tried almost anything. Does someone know how to fix this? 4D handles pretty useless now.. HELP
I like to correct this the best lidar focus of this type is the PD Movie smart focus. you not need a monitor or a hub it simple plug and play and you not need a gimbal or monitor to calibrate or use. DJI range finder lidar focus is very limiting. requires to many accessories to set up. PD movie range will get better in the next iteration. DJI need to make this work without the monitor and hub. DJI should have made this all Wirelessly connect to each other without the need of cables. from the range finder to Motor, monitor or gimbal.
Unfortunately, you are missing the most important difference. Smart focus is only a point sensor, it does not track the face, neither the person or the object
unfortunatley I don't buy the argument he brings up against sony AF. i can simply overwrite the autofokus on the lens with my fx6 and also have a button on my handgrip to toggle AF/MF. all that without any cable or atttachement on the camera at all
