EDIT: The price of the Halation add-on is $49, not $29 like I mentioned, it's like the price you see in the screen recording at 2:29, please ignore my stupidity and forgive me.

I think you mixed the different upgrades, Halation is not 29$, 29$ is if you already have an old version of Film Convert and want to upgrade to Nitrate (without Halation). Halation is currently at 49$, which is still a very good deal, and this comes on top of buying FC Nitrate.

Well, I really didn't think so, but FilmConvert have proven me wrong. Being that this Halation is fresh, I'm blown away at how good it is, and I'm sure FilmConvert will continue improving it. Dialling it into the Tiffen look wasn't easy, but I'm extremely happy with the results.

Thanks for this Philip . I too have the pro mist and some PM mist and VND mist etc . The question is are you still gonna use the glass filters ?

To tell you the truth, the lighter I can pack the happier. The less I have to bake things in, the less I have think about putting on a filter the easier my life. The Tiffen look I’ve dialled in here in Halation I’ll continue to work on and perfect with the help of my friends from FilmConvert, who I love to bits, so that look in my digital pocket should be enough.

@@PhillipSkraba I am a big fan of Nitrate, and love the mist filter look, recently I have started using some old nikkor prime lenses which have there own roll off when wide open which is really nice too. I was gonna buy the Halation when you said $29 but I could only see it at $49. I can send you an example of the 50 mm 1.8 nikkor roll off if your interested

@ScoobieDee really? I must have F’d something up in that case. Either way, even $49 is a steal for this add-on. I’ve been playing with it a lot and it has way more power than I initially thought and really does take away the need for a physical filter in 99% of the use cases I’ve tested. Oh I have the Nikkor 50mm 1.8, and a couple others, in all at the moment I’ve amassed 83 lenses. If I get to 100mm I think I might delete Ebay as it’s become a problem. The Nikkors do have great run off, I used to shoot mainly Nikon, and used the F4 and F5 a lot, great gear 🔥

Was this shot with Sony A7S3? If so, did you grade with film convert? or did you use some other conversion LUT and applied Film convert Halation?

Yes, the a7s3. I only used Halation, no other part of Nitrate was used as I wanted to show the effect by itself. I graded using my own luts.

If FilmConvert doesn't have a Camera Pack for the particular camera you are using will Halation work? What settings should I use if there isn't a Camera Pack available for my camera (mostly using A6700 but also a Mini 4 Pro and just bought a DJI Pocket 3).

Yes, Halation will work by itself, all these shots were with only Halation turned on. You can use default settings or a similar Sony camera and profile to get it closer then dial it in. It’s pretty damn awesome 🔥

John, digital is in full bloom, will a piece of glass be mist, maybe, but I wouldn't let that cloud your judgement, be yourself, just don't be mystified when you find yourself looking in the mirror with a digital smile crying inside, misty eyed.

Don't know wether it's me but I actually prefer the ' before ' footage. I've never liked the misty/bloom look,prefer sharper stuff.Thats why your the Pro and i ain't😀🤷

Actually, mist doesn’t affect the sharpness of the image, it takes a little of the harshness off by softening skin, adding bloom to highlights and lifting shadows due to how it disperses light across the frame. I love that 80’s look, it’s a preference though, totally not for everyone Graham, nor for every shot 😊 For me though, mist is a lifestyle 🔥

It’s not just you, although I did just buy it to test out more subtle applications. I personally love the Tiffen Black Satin filter and want to see if I can emulate its less-distracting look vis-a-vis Mist filters.

I think they way undersold it too! They are way too humble, but their Halation plugin is incredible, and I see a really bright bloomy future for it 🔥
