Skip, there is an article "Red Box, Red Fin" by Mike Busch on savvyaviation. He suggests to ROP at climb and quick LOP at cruise, in order to reduce CHT. Would be nice to hear your comments on the article.

I understand the principle of ROP and LOP but really don't have any experience or knowledge to go into a detailed discussion other than what little information I gave in the video. Well, when u have an engine built for leaded gas and you throw unleaded in it its going to have issues. That lead helped the valve seats so they were built weaker, so obviosly youll start to have issues when using unleaded. Fauling could just be the carbs running rich, you have student's flying them that may not be always correct with the mixture adjustment
Hi izaiahschlosser4512, Right you are but it's been over 20+ years since leaded gas has been available so there probably are not too many engines running today that have not been rebuilt or replaced for using unleaded fuel. Not only do you have students not using the mixture controls correctly some seasoned pilots struggle getting the mixture correct, it's easy to forget about the mixture control when the flight conditions are really challenging, all this effects engine life. I use two panel builder programs, "Panel Builder" from SimPlugins and "Air Manager from Sim Innovations to make it easier for viewers to see what I'm talking about. Imagine making a instructional video for properly setting the mixture on an engine all while still not knowing stoichoiometric ratio or while understanding its relation combustion chamber pressure/cylinder head temperatures
Hi Trevor, Sounds like you don't approve of this video, I'm sorry. I realize this is a very simple explanation and lacks a lot. However, this videos, as with all my videos, are for simulator pilots so they can have some idea of how to use controls and enjoy flying on the computer in a somewhat realistic manner. I don't understand all the science involved in this subject and for the simulator pilot they don't need to know either, just need to know how to make the adjustment and have some fun with their simulator. turns out i was doing it right all this time by just guessing that i should be getting the rpm as high as possible, although i was flying lean of peak not rich of peak
