Mickey Ward and Arturo Gatti were always expected to have a great fight but the trilogy they produced ended up easily becoming one of the most action packed of all time.

@@salvitoripopadillo4539 you weren't harsh. The comment made to you was intended to confrontational and disrespectful from the way I read it. But your response was absolutely excellent. And I know exactly what you mean by the excitement and emotion that run through you when you're witnessing history. It's not tears of sadness so much as it's tears of excitement as you realize the moment you are witnessing in real time will forever be immortalized and live much longer than any person life. It's incredible to witness things so profound and impact full that they create such a deep emotional response. I've felt the same. Watching Rose Namajunas knock out Weile Zhang (I probably just slaughtered both of those names) with a high kick yo get her UFC belt back had me jumping yelling and screaming with tears in my eyes. And I don't watch very many women fight. But she's one of the absolute best and I've followed her career so watching that moment in real time just affected me the way it did. It was incredible. I remember Gatti vs Ward 1 and watched it live at home. Within 30 second sof round 1 I was standing and I didn't sit down again until the fight was over. Like a kid, I was jumping up and down, throwing punches in the air. By round 4 I was heering for BOTH fighters. How you know greatness is that it transforms people. I know I wasn't alone in rooting for both fighters and also not caring one bit who won AT ALL. It was like the world didn't exist and the fans merged with the fighters in one unit. I am, like Ward, from Massachusetts. I ran into him at UFC 33 or 34 in Connecticut. I asked for his autograph (this was before selfies and cell phones) and he had so much nerve damage in his hands that he had trouble holding the pen. When he went to write his name, he froze for a moment, as if he forgot his name. There, I knew, that all the wars he had been in were beginning to affect him. I am not sure what he is like today, but I hope he/his brain is in great health. People like Ward and Gatti (RIP) deserve to be taken care of for the rest of their lives because of the gidt of entertainment they gave tens of millions.

The ability to absorb the punches that came at their heads and bodies just blew me away. It was gladiator combat in a boxing ring. What those two gave us was a once-in-a-lifetime fight 3 times in a row. It was amazing to see these guys become best friends and yet still go to war with one another. Simply amazing and I will never forget it for as long as I live.
