Using FAIR USE POLICY - Footage of the moment by chance that Russell Brand saw Amy Winehouse live. Recently described by the comedian in a tribute he posted on his website following her death.
Apart from her amazing voice she had something else, then I put my finger on it... she was authentic and sang with integrity...her own person, no copying anyone else, a unique and special soul, alas too good and too sensitive to survive for too long in this physical environment... our loss. RIP dear Amy.
You know, I have often read people on youtube saying "thank you for posting this" to the poster without ever having thought to do this myself...........thank you for posting this
Amy died when i was very young. I remember seeing her face and hearing her name but I didn’t know who she was. But years later i was listening to her song “Tears dry on their own” when my mom was driving me to school. All it took was the first verse for me to fall in love. The point is that years after she died she still holds not only relevance but power and emotion. Its 2020 now and 9 years since her passing and she is still my favorite artist ever! Even though i still may be young to understand the messages in her songs (17 soon to be 18) i still listen and most often sing along. Rest in peace Amy and Thank you.
the back to black ablum is unfortunately the closest thing we will get to an autobiography Alexis ..... but when you listen to this stuff you get to see amy doing what she loved to do..... check out "the day she came to dingle" here on youtube ...was not long before she died... simply stunning ....
I don't understand why people are criticising Russell Brand so much. He obviously felt very strongly about that experience and described it with a little eloquence. Good on him.
+Ricki Coughlan People criticise because humans are obsessed with their own opinions and how they interpret the world as if what one thinks about someone else is actually important or valid. Rather than question one's own mind. "I have an opinion. Is it true? " is the only thing you need ask yourself.
+Ricki Coughlan He was there,we were not. He has so far made it through his addiction. He saw the talent in her and now realizes he shouldn't waste his own. He is a genius to some ,an asshole to others. Good on him to realize that being comfy in your own skin is the only way you can win the battle
however.. he made some chides that were not needed in order to disingenuously concede his own "plastic-ness" as he put. For true lovers, those who are sensibly sensitive enough to love with all their heart, this phony concession was obviously made in an attempt to separate himself form the others he pre-judged upon his walk into the show. IF he truly had learned anything he'd have first of all done all he could to involve himself with Amy's brand i.e. promoting it perceiving her shitstained demonic father and he'd be raising awareness for those of us who are vulnerable because we love. Instead he blames it on the alcohol(disease) when the suffering begins before the bottle.(pun intended)
"...that voice, a voice that seemed not to come from her but from somewhere beyond even Billie and Ella, from the font of all greatness." Russell Brand This young woman stole my heart, filled my heart, bruised my heart. The words expressed by Russell Brand help speak my feelings for Amy Winehouse because I am unable to put in words what she meant to me as a person and musician. I know I'll never experience her like ever again in my lifetime.
Beautifully said, I’ll echo that. The most mesmerising talent in my lifetime for sure, for all her sadness she made all our lives just that little bit more special by being here
She truly was a genius, a beautiful person with a beautiful kind sad soul. She never found true happiness here on earth maybe towards the end but I hope she's at peace now. I wanted to see her live and hopefully meet her...I didn't get the chance but I still felt like I knew her. I could relate to her sadness the way she felt. Some of her songs really connected with me. I don't think we'll ever have another musician so genuine and true as Amy Winehouse. :(
You're so wrong mate. My preference is normally for something a tad harder like Megadeth, but when my wife bought me a copy of Back to Black, I was hooked after the 1st listen. She WAS something special.
Marcella Ramirez sad soul? In my opinion she seems more like a lovely lively crazy party girl with an incredible energy! I'm pretty sure she really enjoyed her Camden, her drinks, her loved ones with a true passionate attitude.
MrRatherino Um...this was only 9 years ago. "Musicians" haven't been able to play or sing for about 10 years, because most "musicians" are manufactured acts or rap acts who don't sing at all. No matter what year, there will be exceptions and true talent will shine: Amy Winehouse, Adele, Alabama Shakes, Etc.
As the ICON Tony Bennet said of his own addiction...It wasn't until a dear friend told him : "You are sinning AGAINST your talent" that he stopped his cocaine addiction & became completely clean. Such a tragedy for the beautiful Soul & Voice that Amy was blessed with ~ To have bulimia & drugs & alcohol addictions. How many can survive all that while being swept away with a career in the music industry which can be such a "dog eat dog" roller coaster. She had a beautiful rare talent seen usually once in a generation if we are lucky. To be compared with Billy Holiday & Ella Fitzgerald...those are BIG shoes. I wish I could have heard her live at her best... but REALLY Appreciate Russell Brand's loving assessment of the genius of her voice! I saw Mikhail Baryshnikov dance... & words always fail to fully describe the absolute transcendence of a soul experiencing the exquisite beauty of a genius at their craft... it humbles you to your core. I SO wish Amy could have slayed her dragons -& came to a place of healing & joy in her life & blessed us all with more of her musicality. Like a Shooting Star... Beautiful & Gone Too Soon. !
Yes, wish I had. I feel blessed to have seen Janis Joplin live. The 60 -70's music was groundbreaking, shifting, beautiful, changing, experimenting, and I'm so glad I witnessed it. Amy is a new artist for me and I'm glad I found her. An artist died, but a person did as well. RIP Amy
I saw this when he shared it on twitter, his words brought me to tears. I must also say, Amy looks really healthy here and i love seeing her doing what she loved best. Always in our hearts Amy.
OMG...chills...that was amazing. It shows how truly tragic her death was...and is. RIP, Amy. A flawed human being (just like the rest of us) but with a voice beyond divine.
I love Russell Brand even more for his acknowledgement of Amy. The way he expresses himself makes him who he is, quirky, weird, funny but at the same time, charming as hell. I miss Amy everyday...she's still belting it out for the other angels.
Addiction is one of the worst demons there is ... it really possesses an individual. They are no longer the person they used to be at all ... and the addiction is truly like being possessed by another entity. So many people, besides outstanding artists, have lost their lives, in some fashion, to the disease of addiction. I was praying for Amy's sobriety ... I know that prayer does work, but there has to be a willingness to change in those being prayed for. Amy was quite the artist. As for Russell, keep you nose clean and do great things to change the world in a positive fashion, but most importantly, take care of that soul of yours and all good things will follow.
Some folks making repulsive comments herein are so revolting that one has to wash their eyes after reading some of the hateful things they say as well as take a few aspirin to get rid of the pain of the images that it creates in one's brain as well as hiring an exorcist to rid one's computer of the demon vomit deposited therein by that evil posing as a person. I think it might be a good idea if we, who love Winehouse and do not like people who say horrible things about her, as well as their using this forum to add racist and prejudicial comments about other cultures, races, gender, or whatever garbage that individual manages to dig out of their perverse mind should be reported as using You Tube in a very abusive manner. Anyone who is continually saying that others are into sodomy and other such offensive things is obviously a very disturbed individual and has no business in social forums. I know many of you have been offended by this person and agree with me. Some call it (do not know what it is gender wise but it is passing itself off as a male, but who knows) a troll. I call it pure hatred on the loose and it has no place in polite society. I had made a comment to a British fellow and got a response from it instead. I told it I had made no comment to it and felt that it's comment to me was out of place and to stop and it continues to harass me. People like this deserve a special place in a very squalid area where it is fenced in and they have no access to humane human beings either in person or on computers. They are a poison to the world.
Thank you for sharing this - never cared for Russel Brand much, but it sheds a different light on him. He is better at writing than performing. Amy? Just beautiful. Expressive eyes.
This video was put together so perfectly. Thanks for the effort of timing n composin' the words into the music. Seriously dude, the way you delivered it game me goosebumps. Just perfect.
Same song was performed by them at Hootenanny. Just listen to it how she can interpret same song in such a different way. Both versions are perfect. All is improvisation. There do not exist other performances belonging to the same song. If there was, I'm sure all would be different..There is no original one.. Her interpretations are unique. That is why we can listen to her forever. We can not but only admire her. She was such a talent of the past as well as of the future.
Omg! I knew Russell knew her, but wow! This is my first time seeing this. I am a huge Amy fan, and his words were amazing, I teared up for sure. Amy was one of a kind, and my absolute favorite singer. Miss you angel.
You're so right Russell. She was a genius! I would have liked to hear Amy sing the whole song here. Her voice was amazing. R.I.P Amy. You're missed girl.
continued....This was at the time when she was just releasing Back to black and had come back into the public eye and had such a physical change in appearance and had lost so much weight. (Post meeting Blake). the contrast of Amy (Frank and amy (back to Black) is really interesting and Russel Brand talks about the time when she was in transition from one to the other.
maybe we can all kind of identify - the moment when you realize someone you know has an incredible hidden talent, which causes you to view them in a different light thereafter. It's usually the quiet ones, which makes the talent even more surprising, although maybe it shouldn't - because when you're really good there's no need to brag.
IMO Amy's talent was so rare--it would be incredibly hard to meet 9r know someone like that. They are shooting stars that streak through our lives and leave their trail. Hopefully they live more than 27 years-but some-sadly not.💔
@@chrisbreedy2314 I was referring to literally anything as the exceptional thing, e.g., knitting, working on a car, drawing, cooking, story-telling, writing poems, etc.
So true. Do check out Amy singing this tune on Jules Holland show. Probably my favorite Amy performance anywhere or at anytime...The backup band and soloists were superb, that night but Amy's talent made her head and shoulders above the rest. (not that its any type of competition.) RIP Amy. You will be remembered.
Amy is the best I have loved her since I heard her the first time in 2006 I don't think a day has went by that I haven't had one of her songs blasting somewhere in my house or car. RIP
Amy Jade Winehouse (14 September 1983 - 23 July 2011) was an English singer and songwriter known for her deep expressive contralto vocals and her eclectic mix of musical genres, including soul[1][2][3] (sometimes labelled as blue-eyed soul and neo soul),[4][5] rhythm and blues,[6][7][8] and jazz.[9][10] Winehouse's debut album, Frank (2003), was a critical success in the UK and was nominated for the Mercury Prize. Her follow-up album, Back to Black (2006), led to five 2008 Grammy Awards, tying the then record for the most wins by a female artist in a single night, and made her the first British female to win five Grammys,[11][12] including three of the general field "Big Four" awards: Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
Thanks Russell! Glad I got to see her with someone she had known for so long! I saw the affection on her face when you guys were bantering. I also saw the vulnerability and her sweet personality! I believe that she could have been one of the great jazz singers of all time! Would love to see more of her jazz standards if anyone has them!
if anybody ever asks you "what is music?" you should show them this performance. it's absolutely incredible and flawless, and I cannot believe that most of these comments revolve around Russel Brand
fell in love with her two years before she died. i was so excited to have known she existed and couldnt wait for her to evolve and share more of her genius. two years before she died. two years.
Loved her from the minute I saw her. It wasn’t til she lost her battle w alcohol and substances that I learned about her and her life. I’m old enough to be her mom and I wdve liked to think as a mom of 3 I cdve scooped her up forcefully and tried to save her, but we know that in order to recover from such a powerful sickness of the mind, body, and soul, the addict has to want it. What a tragic loss. Gone at 27 yrs. heartbreaking and my lord what a terrible loss!!!! Miss you my dear girl. ♥️💫
What more is there to say? The male singer, pianist Amy Winehouse is singing with in this piece is also extraordinary! *PAUL WELLER* Thank you, Paul Weller, so much!
Remember seeing her perform this with Weller on Jules Holland's Hootenanny (2006). Blew me away - to me a better version. Her delivery/interpretation was sensational and Weller and the band (joined by Holland of course) was tight. I still have the recording though I've seen it here on YT.
I think one reason Amy seem to burst onto the music scene is that she was a JAZZ singer. That generation really hadn't heard it much or at all. Then Amy comes along and is stunning and real. Saw the HBO movie on her. Thought it was good and showed performances, and sessions.
Good on Russel Brand. He called her Winehouse, like a coach would. Whatever Brands expectations were, Amy met and exceeded such expectations. Otherwise, Brand would not have described Amy as a genius.
Why don't people tell others about great artists. Brand had to "accidentally" discover Amy. Why didn't someone say to Russell "you gotta go see Amy Winehouse! She's phenomenal!" Why?!? 👊
@Richard Knutsach Er.... Yeah he did write this. But not on his website, it is on the guardian newspaper website. He occaisonally writes articles on there and he wrote this one following amy's death. He is a good man and wanted to raise awareness of addiction.
Yeh its awesome. There is also alot of footage they are not releasing which I think is really petty of them because there is so much to understand about her, and so much value for youth to see and understand so that they realise how drugs dont work. Even some focus on that boyfriend, because Amy loved her mother and father, it didnt come from there.
I just got on here and i aint reading nothing people put up!!! Amy always said she had the most normal bring up!! And she was soooo normal ..And not only normal soo talented!! When dad said he was soo proud .. Makes me cry.. Thats it!!! Believe me husbands and boyfriends r out the window!! When u r near death its ur DADDY!!! She knew what u what would do!! Famous or not!!!!! U r her daddy and she loved u xxx
I can understand him not knowing Amy through her music. He was surprised she was a jazz musician hanging out with the "underworld" punk; altternative rockers, etc. She really did fit right in at the time. I'm surprised she hadn't heard Amy sing just for curiosity sake. Who knows perhaps they could have hooked up genres were somewhat the same. I bet he was surprised she hadn't been discovered earlier. How did she get discovered?
Was it the moment Mr. Brand realized the difference between talent and "Product" ? - Who will be remembered among musicians ? Katy Perry or Amy Winehouse ?
+Terrence Thorn Suddenly that awful Perry Super Bowl performance just popped into my head and I thought could you imagine and Amy Winehouse half time how? Wouldn't that be...idk insert any great phrases and they will all do.
+Terrence Thorn Maybe Perry was the less complicated person Brand was looking for. Be careful what you wish for, after all less complicated may justmean superficail
Just signed in////Gutted , i feel there were so many people the could of helped . not even gonna say it.. If i can help my kids through her memories!! I will die happy... Lets save for AMY !!! love her xxxxx
A Genius for music...Oxford dictionary defines it as, person having very great and exceptional capacity of mind and of natural ability. Is that all to describe her?
