My reaction to the Nightsong and Shadowheart's Act 2 story arc in Baldur's Gate 3.
Nonstop goosebumps when the theme hit after Shart made the decision to spare her by herself.

Having her throw away her spear when you chose "Don't interfere, trust Shadowheart" is even more incredible and rewarding.
@SirAlric82

I always thought i had to persuade her (and waste all my inspiration points to overcome that hard DC30 skill check) in order to change her mind. The narrator even told me that, thanks to my strong bond with SH, i might be able to turn her "from the path of duty to the path of light" so i just assumed that i had to do something because staying silent would be like giving the green light to the killing. Didn't know this was an option. Seems kinda weird though, because not only it contradicts what the game tells me through the narrator (that i need to get involved), but also because SH was so determined to obey Shar just a few seconds before that it's strange to see her change her mind so quickly.
@sergiomontesrepisoSMR
@sergiomontesrepisoSMR 8 месяцев назад
That's why I like the design of this part so much: you need to have absolute FAITH in Shadowheart. In that she will do the right thing even if the narrator is saying the opposite and the cost for her can be unimaginable. You have to trust all those brief but important moments (every time her hand hurt her is a hint) that she proved she is still a "good" person despite being brainwashed by Shar most of her life. It's brilliant. You need absolute faith in her love, and well, faith and love are what her arc is all about @@SirAlric82

There's a theory somewhere about Shadowheart and her divine magic, as if Selûne was the one giving her that magic all the time, and Shar only using her as a puppet through her followers wipping out her memory and washing her brain, as the reason why she never loses her powers even when Shar rejected her in this very scene. It's quite horrible and sweet at the same time, like she's been kidnapped and brainwashed against her will, but despite that, Selûne never give up on her, like a true divine mommy.
@godoflemmings17
@godoflemmings17 8 месяцев назад

@@godoflemmings17 Just adding a bit of D&D Lore here!: Most deities do not care what type of damage you use as long as you use it to follow their will. One of the BEST moments in my playthrough! I had a little different journey, the only question I asked her, was "Is this what you truly want", and after I trusted her all the way! When we exited Shadowfell, the first thing I told her, was "You're not alone, you have me", and she admitted that I was by her side far more often than her dark goddess, and she professes undying love! From that point, she truly opened up! The secret in romancing her, is not prying at any point of your journey together, and more important, trusting her

@@terabellum I know, I was feeling the same first time around, took a second playthrough to understand Shadowheart completely! On a first go, I begged her not to kill Nightsong, and conviced her by persuasion, although spent 3 inspiration points in a process! Second time around I was focused on Shadowheart, and was building my story in the way she'd love, and realized that trust is the key with her! Now I finally play tactician, and couldn't bring myself to let her become dark justiciar this time around also, cause I heard you couldn't romance her afterwards at all, Shar becomes her life! It is a challenging on tactician, but I have background knowledge of Divinity Original Sin 2, Larian's previous masterpice, and that gave me an edge, it's not the same, but similar combat, and also, you have freedom to do ANYTHING! Wouldn't even kind of pretend I was okay with killing Aylin even though we were the bestest of friends. Knocked her out. Later, reloaded and tried to kill her and revive her (she is not revivable after fighting her there), and finally went wayyyy back and beat that DC 30 check with some help from Wyll who had guidance from getting magic initiate bard spells. And maybe some item boons. I knew I could say one of the things like 'if you have to' and then tell her ah, nah, Aylin knows things, spare her, but that first bit of making it seem like I was on board with killing Aylin would've broken my RP too much

With enough in game "nightsong" points in coding, that is how she will by default throws away the spear and no longer is cleric of Shar onwards.

If you don't interfere at all, she lets Nightsong live .. you don't need the persuasion and you get more approval.

I could've sworn I tried that and she still killed Nightsong lmao. Maybe I just didn't trust her that much in the face of potentially killing a seemingly innocent person. My character in playthrough one would not let that happen
@Bartschinator

it depends on how you played up to that path and if she trusts you. If you managed to be a "good" character and she trusts you, she will spare her. If she trusts you and you're an evil character, she will kill.

If you abandon her on the nautiloid and treat her like crap during the missions, she kills the Nightsong. To everyone who says "She chooses this on her own" hasn't yet grasped the depth of the game, and the impact of their choices.

Its based on your actions throughout the game. Grove, sparing the owlbear cub, generally good actions that makes her hand hurt.. All this leads to her abandoning Shar.@@terabellum

Honestly so satisfying trusting Shadowheart and letting the scene play out lol. I like that I don't have to whisper in her ear about what to do. Also there's a funny scene I remember that if you throw away the spear before meeting Aylin (Nightsong), Shar will scream at Shadowheart for being stupid lol.

"i'm gonna make Shart a dark justicier" 2 minutes later "Shadowheart, you have to relinquish Shar" BG3 is a hard game for me to play as a evil character... there is too much unnecessery evil to participate in.

"BG3 is a hard game for me to play as a evil character... there is too much unnecessery evil to participate in.". Read that again. Slowly. xD Theres a reason its called an evil run. Calling it unecessary is already defining it from a good characters POV lol Its RP. aka Not real. Go into it with the intent of being a selfish villain, not as a goodhearted morality paladin xD Thats the glory of DND. You can see how far you can push an RP before it breaks, its not real, thats why its called RP. In normal games you are forced to follow one path, or choices are predefined as right or wrong before you even arrive, where the "wrong" choice automatically leads to instant or rapid loss. With RP in a game like this, you can take choices you know are wrong IRL, but makes sense according to the pre-defined RP you set out to play as.
@marekw7562
@marekw7562 8 месяцев назад
@@LilyMrrgglton what I mean by that is, in BG3 you can be evil idiot who harm others for no benefit. The moments when you feel like an evil mastermind are almost non-existent. You can be unkind or cruel. But the only moment you can succeed as villain is the end of a game

I only wish she got equal gear as a selunite to the shar gear she would've gotten. The abilities* she gets as a dark justicier are better too. But the selunite path is the right path, has the cooler cinematic, and better storyline.
@thomasjoychild4962

I think the version of the legendary spear she gets with Selune is slightly better, IIRC. The moonlight glaive Aylin gives you immediately is also pretty great.
