I had no idea we could free Nessa wtf. I always felt so bad for killing her. Both playthroughs of mine I just saw the ambush and was like "fuck you and fuck everyone". Just ambushed and killed everyone
You shouldn’t feel bad. Displacer beasts are EVIL. They hunt just for the fun of it, and will kill even when they don’t need to. They aren’t good creatures at all.
@@Legolas_Katarn It's most likely just coincidence, but it would make sense lore-wise that he avoids water out of habit, since being a vampire Spawn makes running water sting like acid, if I remember correctly.
@@norelle28That was actually a feature during early access. People got annoyed with how long it’d take to get Astarion places (or they’d end up accidentally killing him (I think I got pissed and forced him to stand in the river once so I’m guilty XD)) The team figured, well, since the parasite is supposed to canonically suppress any other of Astarion’s vampiric drawbacks, why not throw that into the bunch as well? I’d be surprised if there wasn’t a mod to add it back in, but honestly, it’s a relief considering how much time you can get stuck running around in just Act 1. Don’t need to add scurrying around to find an alternative route for your teammate to that mix as well.
I got super lucky with this encounter. They ambushed me, and I convinced him to tell his underlings to kill themselves, then convinced him to kill Nessa, and after a few inspiration rolls convinced him to kill himself. It was glorious.
I only got as far as him killing the merrigons, after that I convinced him I'd help him before taking him and the beast out from a more advantageous position.
I did the same thing. It’s crazy how many different paths you can take for pretty much any interaction in the game! I’m definitely going to try this way on my next playthrough though because I felt bad about Nessa getting shot 🥲
I didn't even think this encounter was a thing. I didn't follow the Displacer Beast, but took an alternate route that let me see Yurgir and his henchmen propped up for an ambush - instead I got the drop on them.
I never had any dialogue here at all, I came in around the side to the beast's lair, opened an owned chest and looted it, and despite being in sneak mode and not in any creature's LOS it immediately triggered combat, the displacer beast ran into the room alone (and got killed in one turn), and the devils were all hostile up on the ledge in the other room, so I just killed them all. Bit of a pain bc theres no climbing path and bad sightlines from that area so I had to teleport everyone up to them.
@@pensandshakersthey probably never went to the shar temple. Hell I didn’t even know fish people where in act 1 or 2. Or you could get a power up from the hag. Or the shadow druids. Though I was super lucky on the blood of lathander part. I know people who completely dodged the forge first play through. A lot of people who don’t have an explorers sense right away. Or look up every RU-vid video on a video game
Hoy shit, so that's why Yurgir's contract was still in effect. I thought it was because of the weird undead justiciars. Had no idea there was a whole-ass rat-man.
The justiciars are dead, Raphael set this man-rat-swarm business up to imprison Yurgir after making a deal with the architect of Moonrise to clear it out of Ketheric's army. Two birds with one stone type of guy fr.
@@zave_02she's not a good fit for Shar because of reasons. Don't you think it's a little funny that she's supposed to be an evil oblivion cultist who is really sweet on animals and kids, and doesn't really like hurting people unless you have to?
I didn't even know you could talk with the devil. Karlach called out an ambush, so I attacked. It was a hard as hell fight, but I finally got to use my rune powder!
I made him kill his lackeys then himself. Even though he charms nessa, I think he really does care for her as much as devil can. Tricking him into old yellering her felt horrible.
Yurgir basically doesn't lose anything by killing himself, Nessa is magically hypnotized into believing Yurgir is her one and only life partner. Big difference.
I don’t remember the spider and suddenly everyone’s licking it 😂 I left the rats except for the treasure, they were running all over the place too fast. Clever way to take them, I’m not sure I’d noticed that spell properly at that point but I’ve used it since.
Twice I've played through that area, and i had no idea you could talk to the displacer beast, talk to the giant demon, or that you could turn the rats back into a human.
Wait! So this means the rats ARE the last justiciar?! And you CAN kill him? Ooohhhh, so one could free Yugir if they wanted to 🤔 I befriended Nessa cause I 100% didn't want to kill her. I wasn't sure if the group of evil things waiting could be talked to but most can, so figured why not try?
I was always puzzling why there is a dead spider, which was manipulated. I even googled once but some people said it might be cut content. And now, months later, I see this. :D Wow! I try it the next time. Larian is amazing!
I’m not gonna lie I usually see a displacer beast near the entrance and I straight up attacked I have fought one of those things in an actual dnd campaign and it left me scared so I just engaged on sight
I didn't follow the displacer beast first when I saw it but went another direction. Then there was no way to engage talking with it or Orthon but the fight started right away.
I had the last dark justiciar guy in convo with karlach, switched to my character, hit him until his health was 8hp, switched back to karlach, finished the convo, then one hit him lol.
huh, had no idea you could free nessa, i just went over to where she was and murked her, then they "ambushed" me, but all his minions are ranged so they all grouped up on the edge so i just aoe'd them to death whuole they were shooting arrows, then used karlach to tank fatso while gale ranged him. he took so long to get to us that his entire cohort was dead before he could even attack
oh sheeet now i get this scene, i also did ambushed ambushers, killed Nessa first as she is hard opponent, killed big guy, and never got spider scene :(, oh well guess in 3rd playthrough will have a chance lolz, as current 2nd also is screwed as managed to lock mountain pass.
I'm playing for a second time and I still didn't know we could talk to that big guy lol. Both of my times I spotted them being ready to surprise attack me from above. So I surprised attacked them from behind. Didn't know that was the guy Ralph wanted me to kill either lol. I'll have to remember this for next time.
How do you not immediately get pulled into combat with him? I can never approach him without him and his ambushing party being all hostile already, and I've done this part on two different characters now. And if the displacer beast sees me, it immediately attacks too... I was able to taste the spider meat and figure out it was enchanted, but never able to do anything with that information.
Bugs I suppose. Maybe it was patched when I did it if it was after you or some other error based on what we did, an approach from a different angle, some party spell or item that effected one of the ambush party
If you go upstairs where the demons are, they instantly attack. If you go through the "ambush" zone where the displacer is so the demons have the high ground, the lead demon starts dialogue
This same thing happened to me on my playthru. I approached and the displaced beast just ran away into the ambush and I had to fight everyone. I literally had no idea you could talk to Yurgir or Nessa until seeing other people do it like in this video 🙄
If at the demon entrance you go left, you will see some broken ground. Jump [and don't fall to your death] from one broken ground level to the next and you will be able to find the carcass. But I haven't found a way to interact with Nessa. She doesn't show up to her nest, she just stays with the demons.
There's a perception check you have to pass too. I've seen a streamer in honor mode create a bard hireling sent in solo because they don't have to pass the perception then just gotta get the rolls.
Bruh what I thought that the orthon was Raphael’s enemy thought I finished the quest. I wanted to get out of their so bad after finishing the trials because I had to restart hella far on leap of faith
@@rebbekahcannons9805 After helping my buddy Yurgir, he showed up in my camp later on to give me some pointers on how to get to the house of hope. And helped in the fight too... AND helped in THE final final final megabattle because he became my ally and he is a damn good dude
@@OrcBro wanted to help him in later playthroughs but Raphael needed me to kill him for Astarion's stuff so I wasn't sure if aiding Yurgir would cause problems with that, messed up things aside with the displacer beast and what he did with her food I find Yurgir is a decent enough devil.
I haven't long rested in act 2 yet so I still have act 1's Morninglord's Radiance giving all attacks +1-4, Astarion has 20 dexterity, gloves of the balanced hand to give him two weapon fighting so an extra 10 damage from those two offhands, has the weapons Sword of Life Stealing and Knife of the Undermountain King in his off hand that gives a higher crit chance, and he had advantage on every attack so it should have done three sneak attacks.
@@Legolas_Katarn Sneak attack is precisely once per round, and you don't have it set as an "ask each time" reaction, but an automatic usage, which means your first attack eligible for sneak attack will use it. You can prove it in the damage log, but also in the way the damage numbers pop up. Your first attack had 3 damage numbers, 10 and 15 in white, and 4 damage in yellow. Based on what the max dice roll for your main hand should be(13), the 10 was from your normal attack, the 15 from sneak, and the 4, being yellow, was from Radiance. Your second attack was a crit, but it only had two numbers, a white 16 and a yellow 8: no sneak attack. Your final attack had a white 11 and a yellow 4: no sneak attack. Total of 68, and the math works, 105 hp Yurgir is down to 37. But to the person you're replying to: this is precisely how hard any thief should be hitting at level 9 (a guess from all the spellcasters having a single level 5 spell slot) with ok gear and stats. The crit was nice, but this is by no means abnormal. Even if you hadn't crit, the damage would be lowered by 1d6+1d4. But with sneak, Radiance, and three attacks, one a crit, you're just rolling a LOT of dice: (1d6+7+5d6+1d4)+(2d6+7+2d4)+(1d6+7+1d4) = 9d6+4d4+21 You rolled 13 dice with a flat bonus of 21 from 20 dex and +2 weapons. That damage range is 34-91. With a 68, you barely hit higher than the exact average damage, 62.5. The only thing unaverage was your luck with the Morninglord: all 4 radiant d4s rolled a 4. Praise Lathander, hehe!
@@Pgoodso Bit ironic that the Lord of Dawn is helping out a night-crawling fanger like Astarion :D - agree with your numbers analysis. Personally my Astarion almost always ends up a Ninja (Thief 4/Monk 8) to add extra flurry of blows and stuns with sneaky goodness - but when he dual-wields (until Act 3) it is with exactly those two weapons...
Shar is the worst goddess, she preys on the weak, the ones who are the most desperate. Even though they are ficitional, but still. She's a monster, I wish there was a DLC to eliminate her. Ketheric who was once a palandin, a proud leader turned into a puppet (partially because of her). She's so annoying and evil, far more evil than this Absolute.
There are far worse than Shar. She is just the embodiment of envious destruction from the jealousy of her sister being loved and able to create. The absolute isn't necessarily more evil than Shar, just more concerned with mental enslavement rather than using that enslavement as a means to end everything all together. For Shar, we are nothing, and resentfully necessary tools to return everything else to nothing, but to the absolute controlling all the tools are the point and that intent to control might be considered more evil than just the ambivalence Shar has towards mortals; it's all about beating her sister, which is more petty and sad. I would say deities that revel in torture and such are worse, like the god of pain whose name escapes me. All I can think of Lathandar the morning lord. Lumiar... Livithar... whatever, not the point. And then you have "gods" like the bitch queen lich of the Githyanki, who is much more evil than the absolute by far (just also less effective and more of a wizard of oz type of god than a real one). Shar is just a basic bitch is my point. So, she's "the worst" in the sense it's "the worst" when the ice melts in your soda. (turns to the sky to give Shar both fingers) Selune will always shine brighter.
True@@agirlnamedmichael1670 It is just she doesn't mind if Shadowheart (Dark Justiciar route) massacres all of her believers in House of Grief. She also let Mother Superior to kill everyone at her prievous establishment. I just don't understand why she would have her loyal followers killed.
@@masondeross I got confused when you called Vlaakith "the bitch queen" because that's one of Umberlee's titles, lol Also, you're thinking of Loviatar; but she's honestly not as bad as you might first think (she is still pretty bad, though). She encourages her clergy to make people enjoy the pain as much as possible.
@@Legolas_Katarn - It's a feature that few if any would bother investigating, and the dead spider is usually found only _after_ you deal with the orthon. If I had to guess, there's probably even a hidden achievement associated with it.
@@lostprophecy7593 You don't have to jump off the ledge like I did , you could also just find the wall section that you can climb down and killing some rats will eventually lead to a group of them running to that climbable wall section.
He should always talk to you. Unless, from what I can tell, you steal something (red chest near the spider body) and then they start combat at some point. Maybe there was a bug for you. It is an embarrassingly badly designed encounter where the majority of his allies don't even know what to do if they ambush you, so I could see them making other errors with it.
I solved this by sneaking my entire party up by the side, then ambushing the big guy with Lae'zel who killed him in one round, used all of Astarions sneak attacks repeatedly then cast spirit guardians on both my bard Tav and Shadowheart and the fight wasn't too hard. I'm level 8 at this point and that worked well. The important thing is to not let the big guy throw out the bombs because that fucked me up at my first attempt at this fight.
Man, so many options in the game truly. I feel bad for having used an Assassin Astarion to just one-round her before one-rounding Yulgir too. Raphael doesn't even seem remotely interested in talking to Astarion in Wyrm's Crossing afterward either.
Go back after every long rest, pick up any of the weapons on one of the altars and drop it back on to get the buff again. Or did they patch it so you get the buff just walking back in the room? I don't remember, but that thought just came to me. I know they patched it so companions no longer get it re-applied if you dismiss them from the active party and then add them back, which used to happen even into Act 3 when you can't go back to the temple anymore to get it for your PC.
Against Yurgir? I haven't long rested in act 2 yet so I still have act 1's Morninglord's Radiance giving all attacks +1-4, Astarion has 20 dexterity, gloves of the balanced hand to give him two weapon fighting, and has the weapons Sword of Life Stealing and Knife of the Undermountain King in his off hand that gives a higher crit chance.
@@LordCancerTaymanisus I should be? He had advantage on every attack and sneak attack is on automatically in his reaction tab so they all should have been sneak attacks. @@Legolas_Katarn i should check on that i usually command the sneack attack so i never noticed if is automaic but it should be not because sneak attack do a different animation. Usually the rogue when doing sneak attack does a little jump and a strong stab with main hand, looks rather cool
I attack rats , they said don't kill them just take treasure now I can't find any rat to trigger this anymore not even near Raphael ritual circle. Can I still kill them again?
Not sure, the first time I said yes the rat just kept running around the area but then disappeared when I moved to a further away character to jump them down. So it looks like if you agree they should just vanish, at least if you move far enough away from the rat that gives you the choice. I said yes to add to Halsin's approval (the hidden loot is garbage like all the hidden chests you find with survival rolls) and I entered the turn based mode to target and kill the rat so I could get both options. I later found the group of rats that runs from you that leads you to the climbable surface down to that area I jumped into and four rats that attacked me near the trial doors, but I assume that is just a bug (since the rats should have all been dead for me) and was only happening because I entered the area in a different way.
@@Legolas_Katarn I see , tank for your replied tho. That Dark justiciar sword and shield look much better than the 20 golds and 1 scroll those rat saving.
