Hey Chaps! Would you buy a 3:2 Monitor?? Update - think I missed out the colour accuracy figs in the video, so they are: 100% sRGB, 89% adobeRGB, 95% DCI-P3
Had my MateView for a couple of weeks now and I am so lucky I stumbled across it just moments before ordering a BenQ model. I had forgotten that my Surface Pro laptop also has a 3:2 display so the MateView feels 'normal' - in fact when I sat down at our main PC just now which my wife has taken over for her home office I was shocked at how squashed up looking were the two 23" monitors attached to it. These are conventional 16:9 and I used to be completely happy with them but not any more - for editing photos and videos they cannot compare to the Huawei's 3:2 - I just did not know what I was missing. I would urge anyone who uses Premiere Pro, Lightroom or any similar screen intensive apps to give the 3:2 format a go - you will never go back to 16:9, guaranteed !
Oh my god. An actual 3:2 productivity monitor? Love it. Shame that it isn’t vesa compatible. Hopefully we’re going to see more 3:2 monitors in the future. Hands down the best aspect ratio for productivity.
Solid comment. If I didn't catch this, I might have bought three to mount on a single VESA stand and gotten hosed. Once you go triples, you never go back.
@@pandazsleeping7038 Im using a 5:4 1280 x1024 17" 75z monitor beautiful for programming, surfing on the web, feels very easy for the eyes(for example yo dont have to move your head to see the side panels), I suffer from myopie so i need to get closer to the monitor, I dont like wide panels, even 16:10.
Been using it for 3 months now…it is by far the best monitor I have ever seen. Extraordinary display and the 3:2 ratio is exactly what you need for an office display. Must buy if you work from home.
Are you using it wireless with a Huawei laptop? In my country I have the option to choose from wireless and non wireless but I really want to now if there is any lag while using the laptop like that. I haven't seen any video that shows talks about it :/
From the enthusiastic "The Monitor I've Always Wanted!" to the half-hearted "Should you buy [this monitor]? Well, ya, I think it's definitely worth considering. It's not perfect ...." Sounds clickbaity to me! Tsk, tsk! Lol.
Think he should point out it has a built in WiFi to pick up Internet for updates. Assuming it is to sync with all the huawei phones whenever they get updates?
3:2 aspect ratio would probably be cool for programming, but everything I'm reading so far seems to suggest that this doesn't support a rotated 90 degree portrait mode.
@@Manuel-rl6um so that you can have two of them side by side. One with an ide, another with the app, logs, docs, etc. I'd not buy one without vesa, though. Hope for more in this ratio
The 3:2 ratio is quite appealing to me as a video editor. People go on about needing a wide timeline, but I find the timeline can often get very deep too particularly with lots of sound layers - and for AfterEffects work the timeline often gets ridiculously deep. So, might give this a look.
@@brucekennedy5274 what’s your op ion on it now ? I agree with the timeline getting deep so I’m really considering it. I wanted two side by side but would that be overkill with this aspect ratio?
I personally love this monitor layout and design. Growing up with 4:3 monitors the ratio is fine for me. Like any ratio, you get used to it and adjust your items displayed accordingly. Currently using a 21:9, 16:9 & a mini 4:3 monitors on different pc setups. Great review and terrific product :)
I think screens with a 16:10 aspect ratio give the best of both worlds and are good for pretty much everything. They are not too square and they are also not too wide and narrow. I think a 3:2 screen would be of most benefit to photographers who mostly use that aspect ratio.
@@Thetechchap LG 38GL950G-B is what I'm using right now.. 21:10 or whatever, and LOVE this thing! Solves the biggest problem with ultrawide in the narrow FOV that is fixed here :D
The review did not mention the built-in microphones which is just as well as nobody seems able to make them work. Also, there is an issue waking up in MacOS in clamshell mode (need to unplug and re-plug the USB-C cable), HDR reduces the max frame rate to 30Hz, the touch bar is unresponsive, the built-in headphone jack (an speakers) volume cannot be controlled from a Mac keyboard and connecting Bluetooth keyboard & mouse, required to set-up wi-fi and auto firmware updates, simply does not work.
Holy...! Finally! The 2010's are over and the 2020's monitor design has FINALLY arrived! I've been waiting! It always takes tech about 3 years into a new decade to stop doing the old decade and get with the new era already, so it IS a bit early in the decade. But this is like a proper 20's decade monitor already, not 2015 calling wanting it's monitor design back like most others! Sweet! Let the 20's finally begin...!

Perhaps I’m missing something but the fuss over the ratio seems odd. It’s the same width as a 27” but with more depth and same pixels wide! So 16:9 is same as this but this has a few more pixels. If you prefer 16:9 just accept black bars or enjoy the extra space. Why do people think it is too narrow when it is same pixels wide?
At Huawei please make this exact design (same exact number of ports) in 32" or 35" with 99% DCI-P3 4K, somewhere around 100HZ-120HZ and 800 nits brightness and 1200 nits brightness (max) and toggleable 3:2, 16:10 and 16:9 aspect ratio and most importantly 1 ms response times or less as an IPS panel for $1000 usd and the pro display xdr would be dead for the price they charge being out of reach for most consumers.
Your take on docs feeling cramped I feel could be chocked up to having the scaling set a little too high, As I've noticed with taller aspect ratios it's actually much easier and pleasant to have documents side by side as I can see more of them at once. Though I guess that is a bit up to personal preference.
I fell in love with 3:2 after using a cheap, awful chromebook. Screen was no good, and it came with all the disadvantages of Chrome OS. But I loved that aspect ratio. And then got to play with a Microsoft Surface Studio, and that was one of, if not the best displays, I have ever used. If I could find a decent price on a Mateview, I'd definitely pick one up.
This will be the best alternative to a pro display xdr, because let's be honest, not everyone needs a 6K display. But for mac enthusiasts like me, the aesthetic is sweet and the quality of the build is nice. Hoping to get mine soon once I change my office setup to the m1 Mac Mini
3:2 OR 16:10 is the perfect widescreen aspect for gaming on, has both vertical pixel space and horizontal, so good for modern FPS/action/RTS/etc games, I love 4:3 as well, but hate 16:9, as it's way to letter-boxxy for me, 16:9 or 3:2 offers a good comprimise. I'd love to see a QD-OLED 28/32" gaming monitor with a 16:10, 360Hz+, at least black frame insertion, but proper native rolling scan would even better.
Absolutely. I love my Surface Studio 3:2 for my design work and this would be great for hooking up more powerful hardware to it than the Studio offers. Thanks for the video! I hope they sell them in the US.
Been searching for a surface like monitor FOREVER ! This seems to be the best option so far. However how would you go about using the pen? Is this a touchscreen monitor ?
You have to watch out for cropping when playing video games which is really annoying. If a monitor is taller than a regular monitor then you should be able to see more information up and down if a monitor is wider than the other monitor you should be able to see more information left and right but instead sometimes the image gets cropped for example half-life. When playing half-life in 16x9 mode you end up not being able to see the top and bottom of the screen. It's like you took your hands and covered part of the screen up and only looked at the center 16x9 portion rather than having the black part disappeared and allowing you to see what's there.
The availability of 3:2 & 16:10 (my personal preference) aspect ratio'd monitors is very low. If they're available, they're hella costly. Making no sense. I don't know why nobody's asking for them. It's Clear after a single use that these formats are much better for majority of consumers.
This could be a excellent combinaison with an Mac Mini! (And alternative with IMac) Very Good review. (The uniformity problem should be verified with other review soon)
i noticed when i went to pc world couple of yrs ago that glossy monitors looked far better picture even in 1080p than matte ones of even 2k or 4k.However now it seems most of these glossy monitors have vanished.Can they still be bought? i am looking for a monitor ideally 28inch but it has to be vibrant and matte finish im not sure can give this?? not easy to blind buy.

The aspect ratio depends on your workflow. I develop software and I read text from top to bottom. The more lines I can see, the better overview I have over my work. I worked for the last 1½ years on a Microsoft Surface Studio, which has 3:2 aspect ratio, and I can say, for my workflow, this is a huge difference. Actually, the Surface Studio display was what made me search for 3:2 display and find this video.
I think Microsoft should have made this (with a touch screen). Kind of like Surface Studio, but just the monitor that hooks up to the Surface Pro/Laptop/Book.
Hopefully Huawei will see the appeal make a Touch & Stylus input version of this monitor. I've been dying to buy something like Surface Studio as a stand-alone monitor.
@@yacubane I would say the edges of the frame are made with some kind of metal but probably not aluminium. Some bits of the subframe may also have some metal used although I don't intend to tear it down If you are looking for an aluminium monitor this is not for you.
I don't regret buying it. It's a lot more user friendly than the Samsung it replaced and a lot easier on the eyes. It came well packed and was easy to setup. Only criticism for me is the warranty - would have liked a longer warranty.
As my main device is an iPad Pro, I’m thinking this would be the perfect desktop monitor for my set up - the 3:2 aspect ratio should look much better than a 16:9 one for the ipad
When i connected this Monitor via HDMI cable with my macbook pro 16", i could only choose 50 HZ. When i used USB-C cable, i was able to choose 60HZ or 30 HZ. Of course i choose 60HZ. Before with only 50HZ i had some visual problems, while editing (or just watching) Videos. I've seen something like SHUTTER problems. Specialy when i edited droneshots. And specialy when i tilted the Camera. Now with 60HZ it's much better. I love the 3:2 ratio for more Video or Soundlayers on top of each other. But i would really prefer a 120HZ Monitor. Please Huawei. Make this Monitor with 120HZ. I am the first one buying and and i promise. I tell it to all my Filmmaker friends around the world 🙏
It's worth pointing out the monitor comes with a £200 cashback which makes £399 in total for this monitor, as well as a free sound X (worth £199), so it's honestly a very good deal. You just can't find a decent USB-c 4k monitor at this price range especially nearly every usb-c 4k monitors are sold out in the UK. The nearest competitor is the HP U28 monitor which costs £499, but again mostly sold out now.
I use this monitor in my office. A bit overkill for text and excel, but it looks soooo darn good haha. Works flawlessly over USB-C with my MacBook Air m1. including the usb hub. Having just one cable is great :) Edit: I also love the 3:2 aspect ratio. I also don't feel like it's squished when viewing two documents side by side. To me it's perfect
@@percy9228 I use it with my M1, and it scales correctly over both HDMI and Usb-c, for me. macOS recognizes the monitor and also lets me change color profile in macOS. I have had no issues other than waking it from sleep over USB-C sometimes takes like ten seconds instead of two
Hello. Consider purchasing to use with my Macbook pro m1 16”. Have you encountered any problems? Are you satisfied with the monitor? Would you recommend?
Looks great quality wise and OSD is better than the joystick but not sure about the 3:2. While that ratio is welcomed for a Chromebook or Ultrabook I don't think I would use it. But if you do a lot of work that requires it then maybe. Do you plan on reviewing the gaming variant or did you already, I'll take a look around your vids. Thanks for the review
I love the design and for work in the office at home I'd probably get one (Currently using a dell 4k ips) but for my main rig that I also game on.. Na not at the moment because of the aspect ratio. Very excited to see LG/Dell and the others respond to this more design conscious monitor though!

@@reyjerr4086 Obviously the power supply needs to be incorporated into the back of the display itself (like most displays). People will want this display for it's aspect ratio, not for the built-in speakers or USB ports.

Because of the DP version, it's impossible to get 10bit colour in native resolution. This monitor has many flaws, including overheat, full brightness only stay for short time.
I know why 3:2 makes sense for some situations, but I prefer 16:9. I'm also waiting for OLED, M-LED or Dual Layer LCD screens at an affordable price... Sadly, there's nothing available to this date... :(
hello? this might be too late for a question? when you use this monitor for gaming purpose, which port you use to connect the monitor to the gpu? do you use the stock minidp cable or purchase a new one/aftermarket? thanks!
@Alex Sonne because when I start fighting the government I want them to see my normal usage patterns unaffected. They will believe they see what I'm up to. Meanwhile, my burner phones and dedicated kali linux laptop will be where the magic happens. I want performance for everyday and usability. Google has great features. But I know they can see all. And I'm aware of it.
@Alex Sonne some of it satire. Some of it partially serious. But honestly I do wish I could get both the performance and features.. with privacy and kill switches. Just right now you have to compromise somewhere. We are getting closer though with some great products.
