The Monkees run out of petrol in the middle of a ghost town. Little do they know that it's the hideout of some mobsters!
Welcome to Monkee Madness, the series where I watch and review every episode of the Monkees in preparation for a full series ranking whenever I've finished.

Do you like discovering the next cult classics? Do you like over-analysing concept albums? Do you like people who talk about films they think are OK but obnoxiously waste their time saying "but it would be better if"?
Enchanted Essays posts new videos about books, films and more every Friday. I alternate between reviews and video essays weekly. I try to introduce people to obscure movies and TV shows, and look at familiar films from a perspective you may not have seen before. I struggle to stick to a niche, but I'm planning multiple videos analysing James Bond films, Disney films, concept albums and adaptations.
Do you like my logo graphics? I made all of my title cards, logo and graphics in Canva, a free site where you can create all sorts of designs for businesses, social media and more. I'm a something of a Zillenial technophobe, so you know it must be easy to use! You can use my affiliate link here: www.canva.com/...
Want to further your RU-vid channel? Want new ideas for content? Then I highly recommend VidIQ. They provide statistical information that lets you optimise your SEO so that you can get your videos noticed. Whilst they have paid plans, I honestly think that there are more than enough features on their free version. You can sign up here: vidiq.com/ench...

Yeah it was hard to find a clip of that show that is funny out of context. It's such a serious show!

It was extremely odd to me( but also hilarious) that Lon Chaney Junior basically reprised his role from 1939’s “Of Mice and Men” film adaptation. I’ve always been curious of how they got him in this episode and why they had him play a slightly tweaked version of the very tragic character, Lennie. Maybe the producers liked the movie, Who knows… go watch the film if you haven’t seen it and you’ll see why this is so darn weird.

Yeah it is weird. They had plenty of successful guest stars, but that's the only one where they had a real nudge nudge wink wink thing about an actor's other work apart from Micky in Circus Boy (that I can remember anyway). What's even weirder is the fact that he played Wolfman, who, of course, Micky is always doing impressions of!

I liked this episode because I was a fan of the old Dick Van Dyke Show and to see Rose Marie was a plus.

Hello there, never heard of this show, but your voice is fun to listen to. :) Maybe you could get a little more in-depth about what to expect here. This review was way too short if you ask me. :)

Thank you for your feedback. I've actually already made an in-depth video about the show as a whole: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ARTjylEFgTU.html

"So, Black Bart, Kincaid hired a professional killer to get me" "That's right, I paid him $500 for your life" "Is that so? Well, I only have 3 words to say to you. Six hundred dollars? "Kincaid! You're a yellow livered coward" BLAM "Whew!"

The Monkees was no stranger to "brown-face" There was episodes where they pretent to be Mexicans, Native Americans, and one episode features a white actor wearing prosthetics to play a Chinese character

Indeed! The last episode I reviewed was Everywhere a Sheik Sheik which I think is the last episode to use it, but it's been a years since I've seen the series all the way through. Thanks for watching!

@EnchantedEssays I forgot that one. Also the only episode where Monte Landis plays a character that's not the villain

@EnchantedEssays My best guess is during that time period, movie studios didn't have very many actors on contract of Native American, Italian, Mexican, or Asian descent. So using "Brown-face" or "Yellow-face" was considered more acceptable at the time (i.e. Breakfast at Tiffany's) "Black-face" had been in use earlier in Hollywood (silent film era) but Hollywood did have plenty of Black actors under contract by the 60s

@@RemyJackson Indeed! He's a wonderful addition to series 2!

@@RemyJackson That was partially true. I think that most of the supporting characters of the Mexico one are of Hispanic decent and I think one or two background actors in Monkee Chow Mein were East Asian. Whilst there were people praising Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany's, there were critics who took issue with it too, and protestors when Song of the South came out. I'm not saying that you're wrong because you aren't really, but history is often more nuanced than we give it credit for
