He also talks about the Deadly Game tournament at Survivor Series 1998, WWE's scummy bait and switch on the fans the following year with Steve Austin, Arnold Schwarzenegger appeears on Smackdown the same night that the Big Bossman pays a visit to the funeral for Big Show's father, and the wrestling world loses one of the all time greats in Eddie Guerrero.

Imagine the amount of money WWE lost by letting Bret go. They missed out on Bret vs Rock, Austin as the champ, Angle, Cena, Eddie, Booker T, Edge, and most importantly once HBK turned his life around maybe him and Bret could of worked things out and had a great program after Shawn got back from his back retirement. You could of even had them as a tag team where they hate each other but are so good together.

I loved the Big Bossman vs Big Show segments. Hard to believe during a time where we had Austin, Rock, HHH, Kane, Undertaker ( Taker might have been injured during that time but still) and all that other star power, we had a WWF title match w Big Show and Bossman

Not sure how it killed his career. Unless you're talking about walking out on the first compelling storyline he was ever in. That didn't involve being forced to face a family member. Not even sure just how mad he was. They literally used it right away after arriving in wcw. He got his paycheck. WcW took another one of vinces top guys. While 15..20 min of screen time was opened up on Raw. It's a win win win. Yeah got to love a heel who embraces being a heel. That bossman vs show stuff was awesome.

Maybe Bret realized that both he and Vince fighting over a belt is ridiculous. I mean, why would Bret and Vince argued over a fake championship title in a fake sport? It's pro wrestling entertainment. The title only makes the talent's character look good. That's the problem with Bret. He had too much pride on his Hitman character.
@dunnwell7780

I'm sure that I recall, in the documentary that was made at the same time, that Bret, when in limo iirc, driving away from a meeting or something, said that he had "reasonable" creative control that for, as Solomonster said, the last sixty days he could veto any storyline he percieves to be detrimental to his character or his standing in the business. However, he continued, Vince still chose the match winner/loser and he had no control over that. He could object to full storylines but not actual single match endings. As long as he looked good in the angle leading up to the match, which as he is booked into a main event WWF title feud, could he complain as regarding the storyline burying his character prior to the match..?

What Vince McMahon did to Bret was right and wrong. First, Vince did the right thing to screw him because Bret refused to do business by not dropping the title to HBK. It doesn't matter what his contract says about him having creative control. It's not Bret Hart's call. Vince McMahon is the owner, he had no choice to bend the rules because he messed up. Bret Hart was being selfish that time. Yes, Bret screwed Bret. But, Vince McMahon was wrong to screw him in a unprofessional way. It's kinda funny they both fighting over a fake championship belt in a fake sport. In pro wrestling entertainment, the title only makes the talent's character look good. That's the problem with Bret. He had too much pride on his Hitman character. Even Owen Hart didn't care about winning the WWE title, which he did a shoot on one of the episode of Raw 1997 where Vince McMahon called him out. The whole situation between Vince and Bret were ridiculous.

The Montreal Screwjob wasn't Bret's fault or even HBK's fault. It was because of Vince McMahon being so damn paranoid that Bret was going to crap on the title and take it to WCW (which as seriously as Bret took himself and the business so seriously that I don't see him doing that.) Luckily, that was the catalyst for the greatest HEEL which is Mr. MaMahon.

I love how stand just shit all over the Kliq Because they claimed none of those guys put people over which is complete bullshit because the arguments made is that that’s the right thing to do. But since Brett had creative control it makes it OK for him to do the very thing they condemn the other guys for? It’s very hard to have adult conversations with wrestling fans sometimes LOL it’s like trying to talk to a Star Wars fan that hates the new movies LOL it’s just better off not to even have a conversation. But yeah that sports illustrated article was an embarrassment to anyone that has that has written 3 words or more on paper.
