Darryl, I'm also 72 (and a half!) and a music fan since birth, as both parents and grandparents always had music on in their homes, ranging from classical to top 40. I started a list of my all-time favorite songs about two years ago. This song, and 5 other Moody's songs, are in my top 200 songs.

Unlike many of the rockers of the time, these guys were totally into the space program, this was written at the time of and inspired by the events leading up to. and the actual Apollo 11 moon landing, this cassette was carried and listened to by the astronauts on the Apollo 15 mission n 1971. Good for them

Mike Pinder is talking about meditation. The analogy of "out an in" is specifically referenced in Transcendental Meditation teachings. I like the verse where he basically says, ok I've told you about it, now its up to you to ignore it or take it to heart. Very cool!

I first heard the Moody Blues doing 'Go Now' and I thought that was great, but then I heard 'Nights in White Satin' and a whole new era was born (for me). At the time, I was mid-teen, and was blown away by the whole sound! Awesome. Most (if any) people don't acknowledge the people in the studio (especially engineer Derek Varnals, and producer Tony Clarke). Headphones, that is probably the best way to really appreciate all the work that went into some of the most beautiful head music ever produced by a rock band.

I was first introduced to the Moodies in my own mid-teens when a friend played me To Our Children's Children's Children in its entirety. To say that it knocked me sideways would be an understatement. That next weekend, I was in town with begged, borrowed and saved cash for my own copy, which I then proceeded to play to death. The earlier albums followed in short order. Even today, I will listen for hours to this band. They never lost their impact on me. There is something almost ethereal about Mike Pinder's mellotron work on this track. It's other-worldy, that's the only way I can describe it. Show me another track that can still send shivers down my spine after 40+ years of listening and I'll show you how to nail jelly to the ceiling. It is simply superb. I'm also glad this video touches on what I now believe the track to be about - OBEs. Never had one myself but I'm equally sure they exist. Life can't be simply a matter of getting born, getting schooled, getting a job, getting a pension and getting buried. There has to be more.

My story almost parallels yours on the finding and appreciation of these Moody Blues, David, only a friend in high school pulled the "In Search of the Lost Chord" album out of the in store record rack as I was 'in search of' some good music. The friend simply said, "I think you will like this." Man was HE right!

I have heard that the engineer Derek Varnals was never a fan of the Mellotron; maybe because he had to remove all the funny noises made by the tape loops when the mellotron was being well used by its master Mr. Pinder.

This is a Stunning, Brilliant example of The Moody Blues creative, unique musical vision. Their use of ambience, and orchestration on top of a rock band format was ground breaking. Way ahead of the thier time and a HUGE influence on futrue bands, recording engineers and producers. The musicianship withinhtis band, their arrangement, lyrics , vocals and overall sound contunie to blow me away, all these years since hearing htis song and the album it came form in summer 1970.

Incredible!! The mastery of rock geniuses in 1969....and to see how far we have digressed since.. in 2023 ni music comes even close to the intellectual depth, compared to the past.. the poor youth. They have no idea how good music could be, nor the deep philosophical meanings that enrich life. Their faith in materialism has taken them on wicked journeys.

My favorite band of all time. None compare. I'm always on the look for another band that comes close. Pinder, Hayward, Lodge, Thomas, Edge, total genius. Every nuance is incredible in this song, as in all from Days through Octive. Go Now was a miss and God Denny left and Justin and John came on.

Yeah- this song has been much of my life as I have Never sold myself to The American Dream but instead traveled the world- (Made it half-way 11 times- once fully loving women, places and times along my way) And as I'm now old I do remember well my many loves along the way- Bad times, adventures and losses as the years just keep going bye and now I Can easily See my own End. Well, how else could it all have been to get me where I now am. Yet I can say to myself- I did Go Out and see it for myself and for me it has been my 'candle of life'! PS For your info- Much of The Moody Blues sing about- Christ and his Return as seen 'Through the eyes of a child'!

I was about 20, studying to get in Med School, when this album came out, and I have been a Moody Blues fan ever since then. I always thought this song was the best on the album. I saw them live finally about 23 years ago. Pinder was long gone of course, but the rest were there. I'm glad they didn't try this one without Mike, and the rest of the show was great. I took a 20 year old son with me who humored me, but really didn't see anything great about the music. I was so lucky to grow up during such a flowering of musical talent.

Growing up in the late 70s and spending my teen in the 1980s, most of my peers seemed to be drawn towards the popular music of that period. But not me. I had access to thousands of old LPs and was drawn to bands like Gong, Hawkwind, Tangerine Dream and the Moodys no less. By the later part of the mid 1980s, my peers was rejecting the provisions forced upon us and took to the alternative in great number. i was about 13 when i heard Days Of Future Past and in Search Of The Lost Chord. I was hooked and knew every lyric which i could explain to my peers as we listened. It seemed so easy to me, even if hidden or implied. I used to compose myself at that time. I had a number of old Analogue Synthesizers and effects with an 8 track recorder. Have you heard Refugees by Van Der Graaf Generator? Oh what we have lost but can still reclaim! Thank you for the great video depiction on this track. x

Jenn Duke I have seen Tangerine Dream Live and also Hawkiwnd who i first seen at Stonehenge. . Music is not a competition of popularity designed to pamper the collective ego of the masses. I am more concerned with the esoteric value. What about Kraan or Focus ? Cliff Richard was more popular than Tange but he is irrelevant to the underground culture or it's affects.

In this video we are observing the subtle energy body of these humans disconnecting from their physical outer shell....Their inner body appears as a transparent energy double, slightly out-of-phase with their physical body....their ethereal legs and arms begin to move and the subtle body gently separates from the physical body and is usually accompanied by an intense "vibrational" sound/feeling/experience resonating throughout the body, since your now leaving a dense slow moving frequency (the physical) and jumping to a much higher, finer frequency (the astral) For many, this is the 1st major step in their spiritual journey which may take many Earth lifetimes to complete...I've had a few OBE's...they are a REAL thing! It's FUN to leave your body and travel through walls and travel throughout the Universe to wherever you want..but its only the start of your inward spiritual journey..kudos to you ILLUMINATED ENTITY for posting this..this isn't really "mainstream stuff" in the "REAL" world yet...but a few of us are AWARE of it ...(like myself and Mike Pinder!)
