i was so head fucked the first time I heard White Pony. It wasnt what I initially expected but was so great. im pretty surprised how nobody has made him check out Incubus, another band at the height of nu-metal/alt metal but continue to put out great mature content
I would like it, but if he's going to consume that many songs from Deftones, he'd be better served doing more like 1 classic from each album to get perspective on the band's longevity and evolution. Their quality is more spread out.
@@EuSouTades I mean...you can know a band that you technically don't listen to on a regular basis. Which is my point. And he also said at 7:03 that he has the shirt but doesn't really listen to deftones. Maybe not it those exact words but yeah
@@humanbean5878 He has already reacted to other bands with a Deftones shirt. I don't think he's a person who wears a shirt from a band he doesn't know.
Deftones is a band that you either love or hate. The people that love the deftones love them because they are always the deftones. Nothing fake, nothing copied, and no one else like them. Fans would know a new deftones song within seconds! You need to listen to more. I understand all the comments for the white pony album as this was a breakthrough album and easily their most complete album. I personally lean towards Around The Fur for its in your face power. You can't go wrong and should sample songs from each album. Take a deftones journey from the beginning to the end. You'll be happy you did.
KYN took over in my power ranking of Albums. ATF is now 2nd with WP in 3rd. Can't wait for this album to see where it lands, as well as Black Stallion and the possibility of Eros. So much to unpack and look forward to.
I don't know if it's a band that you either love or hate, but i get your point. I just gradually disliked them, around the fur and White poney were amazing, and it went downhill from there. The overreactions for their new releases for the last 10 years are just beyond crazy for me. To this day i find White poney their most mature album without sacrificing anything else. Since then, Cool riffs are there and ofcourse chino is a great lyricist.. He's just not a good vocalist anymore, and stephen carpenter sounds a bit stuck in his guitar playing for me, a heavy 8 string guitar doesn't make the song heavy on its own. Sry for the rant and bad english.
@@hichessam yeah I see that. Pretty much a majority of people love Around The Fur and White Pony. I hear people bashing every other album by them. People say Saturday Night Wrist is all over the place or that Gore feels too out there. But I'll always love them and I think they get better with time. Still think Koi No Yokan is their best record though.
@@hichessam I think the reaction and excitement your seeing is from the love I was talking about. The fans that love them...wait and wait for every new release. A band that has been around for 30+ years, 8 studio albums, overwhelming anticipation and hype for any news or release, and all without mainstream support says everything about the fans they have. New deftones albums are the only albums I have to buy a physical copy of. I just have to!!! They have been and always will be the one band I follow and support.
If you’re going to listen to more Deftones, I recommend getting a feel of one song from each album. Adrenaline: either Engine No.9 or Bored Around The Fur: Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) or Headup White Pony: Korea or Change (In the House of Flies) Deftones (self titled): Minerva or Hexagram Saturday Night Wrist: Cherry Waves or Mein (featuring Serj from System!!!) Diamond Eyes: Sextape or Rocket Skates Koi No Yokan: Poltergeist or Rosemary Gore: Doomed User or Phantom Bride (featuring Jerry Cantrell of Alice In Chains on guitar) Sorry this is really long but I’m a passionate Deftones fan❤️❤️
Might I also suggest "Root" as an option from Adrenaline, and "You've Seen The Butcher" and "Beauty School" from their respective albums.(I forgot which album those songs came from, sorry)
Alex pointed out that the song has two different vibes, and this is what Chino Moreno actually said recently in an interview about the name of the album "OHMS": "“It’s that balance and polarity of things,” he tells Kerrang!. “I’ve always described our band as having that yin and yang. As people, the music we make, and the lyrics that I write, there’s always this juxtaposition and that’s the beauty of what we’ve created.”"
A few Deftones gems it might be worth to check out: My Own Summer (Shove It), Mascara, Around The Fur, Be Quiet And Drive (Far Away), Digital Bath, Elite, Korea, Passenger, Diamond Eyes, You've Seen The Butcher, Poltergeist, Tempest, Rosemary... so many awesome songs
Deftones is absolute magic! Chino's voice is soaring and as amazing as ever, Stefs guitar is thick and this sounds way more dynamic than anything on Gore (also peep that 9-string). Super excited for the record!!
Bro you should react to more of Deftones for next album hype. I recommend: My own summer, be quiet and drive, digital bath, Minerva, passenger (ft Maynard) just to name a few ;)
Oh man...love Deftones...they’ve changed so much but I’ve loved it all. Adrenaline, Around the Fur, and White Pony were a constant staple of my middle school/high school soundtrack.
We lost the frontman of one of the greatest up and coming metal bands the other day. RIP Riley Gale of Texas Thrash Metal band Power Trip. Honestly shocked this band haven't been requested more frequently as they have made big waves in the scene. They were a live force to be reckoned with and it is truly a massive loss to the community. I recommend going for their popular single Executioner's Tax (Swing of the Axe). It's a pretty good introduction and representation of what the band was about.
My first time hearing this too! Check out Two-Way Mirror by Loathe, it has a ton of Deftones vibes. Chino from Deftones retweeted their music video and you know if the man himself approves, you've done something right!
Was so happy to hear how solid this track was, Deftones are consistently amazing like almost no other bands out there, can’t wait for the rest of the record to drop! You want something by them completely different all the way from the start, check out the song “7 Words”. Very relevant subject matter right now! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Alex my man you gotta react to the following: Around The Fur Album by Deftones and White Pony Album by Deftones... if you listen to both of them you’ll be addicted to Deftones no doubt
I drove from new jersey to Tennessee specifically to see Deftones last October and I've been hype about this new album ever since, and I gotta say it more than lived up to the hype! I love this song and im glad you like it too. My favorite song of theirs is beware in case you wanna check out another. Love youre channel, keep rockin.
YES!!! I'm so happy you did this!!! Now please do all of us a favor and do more DEFTONES!!! "Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)" or "Sextape" are my choices!!!
Literally every reaction to this song I've seen this has been a huge smile the minute Chino starts singing. What a legacy to have to be so distinctive in your voice that the *second* you start singing you make everyone smile.
Listening to this when it came out a few days ago and it inspired me to go check out some old Deftones albums and HOLY SHIT are they good! I haven't been able to stop listening to diamond eyes and I'm planning to check out their other albums like white pony eventually. ( By eventually I mean probably tomorrow or the day after lol )
Man, I was supposed to see Deftones here in NZ the weekend we shut things down for the Rona in March 😓 have seen them twice at Big Day Out festival but was looking forward to their own show, hope they can come back! As for this song, it initially was "OK" on first listen, but definitely getting more into it on each listen! Looking forward to the album 🤘
Deftones is the best band ever, I usually listen to tech death and brutal death metal, but Deftones has been my favorite band since I was 13 (I'm currently turning 36). Greetings from Medellín, Colombia.
Alex, as a fellow Texan you should try Upon A Burning Body, they are a band from Texas. They have a song called Texas Bloody Money. It's metal about Texas pride.
I remember seeing Deftones with Mastadon and Alice in Chains. That was such a colossal concert and to this day my favorite one. Also would like to recommend Deftones-Tempest.
The headbang thing is uncontrollable with such a fat beat like this one. Far as the lyrics go, you're spot on. And the name of the song, "Ohms" is used to measure electrical resistance to conductivity. Translated, it gives me a vibe of no matter how bad things get, you fight back, against the flow of debris.
Barcelona show canceled 2020, postpone to 2021. Now The show will be even better with this exellent song in their playlist from now on. Story of my life right now,: surrounded by debris from the past... looking forward to 2021.
I've heard Deftones described as a "Dream-metal" band. Chino often writes about his dreams. Alot of them may not seem to make sense and usually have deep subliminal meanings. Knife Party and Digital Bath are good examples. Listen to them then read the true meanings XD. Also, Deftones songs are usually thought to be about sex or relationships. And they usually aren't actually.
Start listening to the lost songs like Smile and The Boys Republic. (Smile is from the album Eros that is still unreleased due to Chi Cheng's passing, The Boys Republic was cut from White Pony after Back to School ( a song that they were forced to record because their label wanted another single) was put on the album. Another good one is Lovers, a B side from the single Hexagram. (Lovers was supposedly going to be the name of the now Self Titled album. )
Funny thing you mention Inception. Harkins is open finally in AZ and I'm seeing Inception (10 year anniversary)here in about 40 mins . Also have to say, super stoked for the upcoming album next month. Deftones is my favorite band. Hit up some more Karnivool!
You seriously need to listen to more Deftones. There is so much good shit of theres out there bro. Easily a Top 5 band for me. Next Album of the Month you need to do is White Pony, you will NOT regret it❤️
Alex, just thought id make your day by telling you, Deftomes actually have a song with Serj Tankian the lead singer from System Of A Down singing in it, its called Mein, and its an absolute banger of a tune, so thats Deftones and SOAD in 1 song, so obviously your gonna listen to it right? Much love from Stoke On Trent, England
Like another comment said, I'd love to see you react to all of the White Pony album as well as the songs "My Own Summer" and "Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)"
Riley Gale of Power trip just passed away. He meant a lot to Texas Hardcore. Their stuff was a bit niche, but i think youd like it check out executioner's tax
