It's like the Deftones discovered stoner rock/metal. They were finally influenced by their tour with Mastodon back in 2011.

You should definitely check out When Girls Telephone Boys.

Lyrically it sounds like there could be just a general commentary on current world events; but there's a micro-story that it also seems to be focusing on. If I were to guess, there's probably some personal story or concept that he's commenting on that also ties into what's going on in the world at large.

It's not hard. Someone goes through trials & errors in life and makes it out okay, sometimes with someone's help (hence the female in video representing the positive). Fantastic song, great video.

Deftones lyrics have always been cryptic, I gave up a long time ago and I just take the song as it means to me, rather than to Chino.

"What the dead men Say", by Trivium. Its got the ingredients of Dream Theater, Gojira and Metallica that I think will appeal to you,mate. As for more on the Deftones- for the hazy, dreamy heavy ambiance they excel with- "Minerva" is an entrancing song to drift into. I tink this new one of theirs is really good, especially after a coupla listens. Im sure that in general, you'll enjoy delvin' into Deftones whatever song ya go with over time. They've evolved more than any band pretty much. To see this, check out Hearts/Wires & Rosemary from the prior 2 albums. Futuristic & experimental. This was more a return to old, I wouldn't say White Pony, but Diamond Eyes 10 yrs ago.

Two words when it comes to these guys, Mr. Fortune: Rocket Skates... 😁 By the way, the pronunciation of the title is as it's spelled. Think about the conventional chant done by Buddhist monks: "Ohmmmmm". According to their beliefs, it's the sound that was made when the Universe first came into existence.

Welcome back to the Deftones train, Mr. Fortune! It was interesting to hear you say that this didn't sound that different from the sound you were familiar with as I thought the guitar at least would throw you off a bit as this is much more in a proggy/shoe-gazey territory than the songs you heard but you liked it anyway, so not complaining. As for the meaning of the song, I thought this one was pretty straightforward. It could be about the state of the world or the state of a relationship but regardless It's acknowledging the mistakes and the pain of the past while striving for better times. Sexy Metal is the perfect description of Deftones.

Brotha, the debut Deftone's album was released in 1995! I find that insanely hard to believe, since to me, that feels like yesterday. They made a big splash initially too, with them gettin siding along with Korn and the new Nu Metal scene. 1997's "Around the Fur" is when tings really took off for them. Their more spacey, airy sounds that float over the guitars really give 'em a brilliant noisy ambiance that keeps 'em fresh and outgrowing any scene that they were initially lumped into back in the late 90s. Ive been into them since late 97,and am glad they are back. This is a really cool track for me- I like the rush of riffs,and as you mentioned too- that lush , ethereal ambiance that washes over the guitars.

Some Royal Blood ! Only two guys, a bassist/vocalist and a drummer, but hell do they sound huge ! Best from them gotta be Figure It Out, IMO. They have a very groovy, yet brutal sound.

I kind of feel like TesseracT is a good modern evolution of the Deftones sound, while both still being stellar and unique. I'm still waiting for Caligula's Horse though, just had to throw it out there XD Oh yeah, abso fucking lutely back the others requesting sleep token. You have have have to look into them and get curious.

Deftones have so many gems. “Elite’, ‘Goon squad”, ‘poltergeist’, ‘when girls telephone boys’, ‘this place is death’, diamond eyes’, ‘hole In The earth’, ‘mein’, ‘dai the flu’ , ‘battle axe’, ‘bloody cape’ ‘rats,rats, rats’, ‘needles and pins’, ‘hexagram’, ‘korea’, ‘rocket skates’, are heavier songs. But I get whatcha mean, some things take time to sink in.

Listen to Adrenaline or Around the Fur

Chino said something in an interview once, The music he writes is often not about him or anyone he knows. He will write music from the perspective of someone he doesn't know. For example the song "Digital bath" is about someone Electrocuting their girlfriend in a bathtub with a toaster, He said its not about him or anyone he knows experience in life. The band members were just on lots of drugs and were in a dark period while recording White Pony.

The only break they took from making music was when their bassist went into a coma after an accident and eventually died. But they've made several albums since then.

Deftones lyrics are odd. They are often metaphors like you said, but often its literal interpretations of metaphors. Like Change could be looked at as some kind of metaphor about a bad relationship or something.... or it could literally just be about someone changing into a fly.

For your chase to 100k subs, how about try reacting to Pink Floyd? Seriously one of the top bands of all time (2nd in the list after Tool for me).
