When it comes to fishing a jig for bass, there is really no other lure that is more reliable at catching big fish. Sure there are days when a big swimbait might catch a big bass, but those days are few and far between where it seems like a jig will catch big fish more constantly then any other lure.
However it is super important to understand the fall rate of your jigs!
BassFishingHQ is dedicated to teaching people how to catch more and bigger bass. I will go over different bass fishing tips & techniques that will put more fish in the boat or on the shore. Whether you are just starting out or a seasoned tournament angler, my goal is to help you catch more bass.

Been watching a few of your other jig videos and man I have learned a ton. This year I wanted to become more confident in a jig and have put your advice to work. Yesterday I saw this exact situation okay play out. Was getting a few solid bites on a 1/2 ounce and decided to downsize to a 1/4 ounce and absolutely killed it. Went from a bite every 10 cases to almost every other cast. Thanks for the awesome content. Probably the most informative YT channel for fishing and you do an awesome job. Keep it up!!

I take bits of tape and a Sharpie and mark my jig trays. I always know the type and weight of the jig at a glance. So cut a small strip of masking tape or paper (medical) tape and write what type of jig will be in that bin and stick it to the back of each little bin for your jigs in your box. It works really really well. Also, Googan jigs put the jig weight on each one very prominently.

I fish a 1/4 oz jig almost exclusively. Still using the original Terminator Finesse jig that came out 25 or so years ago with the Air Alive skirt. Bought dozens and dozens of them because they were so effective. Still have 12-15 left. Will be saddened when I run out. :(

I usually throw a jig on floroucarbon, but one time decided to do 10lbs mono, me and my friend fished the same exact jig and I caught 12 fish whereas he caught 2 fish in the same areas and time spent fishing, the only thing I could assume was that my monofilament line was more buoyant which causes my jig to have a slower fall rate. This helped me confirm that theory so thank you .

I used to live in Michigan, just over the border w/Ohio and found this to be true not only with jigs. We actually fished a set-up with a Culprit Scoundrel skirted bullet weight, straight shank worm hook and Larew Salt Craw. Everyone was throwing 3/8 & 1/2 oz jigs while we adjusted throughout the day with lighter and lighter weight. We didn't win the tournament but got third. I blew it by letting a big fish get off 20 min before having to check in. Funny thing is we waited outside the check-in zone and caught a cull fish off a deep point right as everyone else was checking in with 5 min left. A group of 4-5 teams were watching as we did.

If your fishing the bank ! Shallow water like you said you were fishing ! Fall rate dosent apply ? Trailers yes they do make a difference! I would think fall rate applies to deeper water ?

I caught an absolute pig large mouth on a bladed jig with a beaver trailer and reeled slow. 5lbs easy. Grabbed the jaw, looked inside and it already had another fish halfway down its throat. Talk about a reaction strike.

Should’ve called me. I’d have fished the tournament with you. Kidding of course. I’m probably as old as your dad so maybe he’ll go next time. I was skilled at work but now I’m retired and learning to fish skillfully versus luckily. Your channel is helpful. I like your narrative style and I do go out and try things as you presented them. Perhaps I can shake your hand in person some day to thank you.

How deep was the channel? 1/4 oz jig fished in water over 10 feet would drive me crazy. Do you recommend 1/4 oz jigs for water greater than 10 feet?
