Hey Espen, -2, -1 and etc are too dark as a starting base. Blacks/shadows become crushed after editing in post. I think Camera Conspirecies was actually advising to go -0.3 (there are others on youtube with same advice for the x3000) 0 or -0.3 is a good starting point with a bit of blown out highlights sometimes, depending on the sceenery but covers most scenarios. Then best is to bring down the blacks a bit in davinci afterwards. (not the shodows, but the blacks, as there is a difference and the image is cleaner and not as "fade-ish/foggy" - discovered it out testing myself) Also a tip for anyone not liking the fisheye look: In the lens correction effect in davinci just set the distortion to: 0.200 for the sony x3000 0.250 for the gopros when shot in wide fov 0.225 for the Action 3 and Action 2 when shot in wide fov And now you have perfectly straight wide angle shot and you can dump that $3000 full frame set up with the wide angle lens. :D (Yes, I did that and learned the hard and expensive way)
Hey Mike, you're totally right. It was too dark and I see that now 😀. Thanks for all your expert tips, this is what I learn from👍. Have a wonderful weekend 🍻
camera conspiracies is one of my favorite camera channels. he's a funny guy. the -2 is good except when the sun is behind you. in a vlog situation I would use a light reflector towards your face . good comparison my friend!
His channel is awesome, you are so right about the settings. Too dark with minus 2, have adjusted it in my other videos. Have a wonderful day my friend
-2 is way too dark... shadows are crushed. I just ordered Action 4 to replace my old and beloved X3000 :) Can't wait till the end of the world for the X4000 ... ;)
@@EspenJohan I would love to see your comparison of Action 4 with the X3000 and maybe Pocket 2 in low light (I saw the video that you had this Pocket :). We don't have the X3000 anymore. It was focus defect happen, so I little afraid that it will happen again and was sold (cheap) some serviceman who in case of something, he will repair by self. But it is fantastic hardware and makes video that didn't need to be improved.
I think is not a problem to turn 180 degrees from the sun... I also have a sony x3000 from few weeks and I know if I'm outdoor not to put my camera facing the sun, like all other cameras in the world
Doing videos with 5mph and 70mph is a completely different game, I'm also still using the Sony, but at the end because of the software solution I like 100 times more than struggling with every GoPro solution.
Thanks for your review, I just got this amazing camera and had tried different ev settings as well,I think -0.7 works well with me, and after watching your video I got another question , may I ask if your video has been corrected for lens distortion?
Hi, thanks for the nice comment and the camera is amazing. I agree, - 0,7 is enough, what I tested is too much. I did not do any lens correction. I filmed everything in 4k.
@EspenJTravel today, I've tried it again on a hot and very bright sunny day. The camera struggled. In the end, the flat footage was better than with "vivid" on. But needs a lot of adjustment when editing. And still it is not perfect. I hope your new camera does it better. I mean, mtb videos is one of the hardest for the camera. So much is going on.
Can you see if there are any changes I should do to the camera settings in my vlogs? I feel like the picture can feel a little off. Thanks my Bergen friend!
I make mtb videos and i can tell that overexposed parts are really annoying. You can't see the trail clearly. Same with the dark black parts. Both you can't correct. Dark is black and overexposed is burned. I believe the ev set to -0.7 or to -1 is the best compromise. Colour correction when editing is the key.
