I actually think this is the best video so far on your channel, and I've watched all of them, many multiple times. The bit at the end with different pubs was brilliant, and could legit be used by someone like Failte Ireland.
Enjoying the new content mate. Didn’t just watch you just for the Guinness stuff as you always seemed like a sound lad with decent crack - which is why I will continue to watch your videos. You took a risk and ventured off the beaten path to go in a new direction, but it was the right choice since you said you weren’t happy doing what you were doing. You’re definitely a natural at this and will go from strength to strength - looking forward to see where the channel goes!
Maybe a cool video idea would be to show tourists coming to Dublin your favourite pubs where you can really party / have a great time. Dont get me wrong, I totally understand any criticism of the Temple Bar, but when I fly to Dublin with three mates and we arrive at lunchtime we want to have a great time :D. Having a few pints in Mulligans or Bowes is certainly on the agenda, but in pubs without music and with an older crowd, the fun factor takes a back seat. That's why I love the Dublin live music scene, the trad music scene in particular. But especially in the early afternoons the Temple Bar is almost without alternative for us.
@@benmcmullan718 Above all, he tells us where to get a good pint of Guinness. Not necessarily where there is good live music etc or where he would go not only for good Guinness but also for a "party atmosphere", which I find would be a great video idea.
what I did earlier this month when I visited Dublin: get your pics in front of the Temple Bar just so people know you went there, then have your pint of Guinness at the Palace Bar a few metres east at 6.90
I lived in Dublin for five years and totally agree with this advice. Good to experience Temple Bar as a tourist but go see the more authentic parts. Was back in those three recommended pubs on my visit earlier this month. Keep up the good work.
I went in here last year for the craic, asked for a Beamish and the head on the thing extended down beyond the logo, I was shocked and appalled. Obviously they know the vast majority of their clientele are foreign and either don't know or don't want to complain about the standard
Damn... we must have missed the Guru. We went to Bowes and Mulligans on my birthday on 20th of July. We are from Germany and knew becouse of the videos from Daragh, that these are the spots for the creamiest of the Black Stoff. ;) Loved it. Thants for that Daragh. Wish I could be back there. Love Ireland.
I was a regular visitor to Dublin before covid. I only visited the Temple Bar pub once on my first visit, and I never went back. I found pubs further away from the temple bar where slightly cheaper
Went 3 years ago and it was expensive. Then I went in May and I couldn’t believe the price. I had the classic Guinness then the partner had a gunpowder gin and lemonade and it came to €21. I’ve kept the receipt to remind me of the heartache
I have to say I was skeptical about how successful the new style of content would be. But it's such a refreshing change, like the shackles have been removed and you have a new lease of life. Keep up the good work!!
Hey Daragh, I’m a travel consultant in Niagara Falls Canada and we have some proud Guinness pubs here. Come out for a trip it would make for some awesome videos, it’s a ton of fun here. I could build the itinerary for you here in Niagara and Toronto.
An excellent video. Just back from Dublin the day this was uploaded after being inspired to finally visit after watching your channel. Beautiful city and pub culture! Agree with The Temple Bar but one of the only places where the Guinness is flowing at 12:00PM mid week, a guaranteed seat with live music. Ended with a trip to The Gravediggers and a chat over a pint with Ciaran Kavanagh. A must visit for any Guinness drinker.
I'm from Leitrim and I'd definitely recommend a visit , a night or 2 in Temple Bar . Mighty spot . Great music, friendly people and lovely old style pubs. Only downside is the price of drink but upside of that is u dont drink so much.
Another banger video. Was in Dublin in April and walked all over Temple Bar area and never went into the Temple Bar pub. The Palace was amazing. Bowe’s was classic. The Stag’s Head was phenomenal. You go the the TB pub to party w other tourists and that’s it. You want something of a real Irish experience, go to the other pubs.
We went in last week. We knew it was expensive and walked past a few times on previous nights. Decided to go in because it looked a good atmosphere. Wasn't disappointed, good band on, everyone joining in, very busy. We stayed for 2 drinks. Expensive but a must do if visiting Dublin.
NINE QUID, my god. Thankfully I only looked at this pub from the outside and, thanks to your previous videos, didn't bother getting a pint from here. Loved the video lad.
Well said. It's about time the whole street on Temple bar was shamed. Dublin used to be a fantastic place for a pint. But I'll be honest, the prices are getting stupid now. I actually prefer Belfast now. Less tourism, cheaper and the Guinness is just as good.
I used to work in bars in the busy 1990's. Even back then I knew all this was coming to a close. The bars were rammed, people were spending a fortune, getting wasted, there was a loud band playing, and the bar was always 3-4 rows deep. I used to look around and think "A generation is going to come along who won't put up with this". That generation is now. Remember, our wages were a lot less, so even €4 a drink was very expensive. Its never been cheap to go drinking.
I’ve only been to Dublin twice, I like the temple bar area as it’s got a great atmosphere, but I’ve never been tempted to go into the actual bar. There’s so many other good bars with live music and good Guinness.
As a Diageo investor, I don't mind 😄 As an Englishman in a relationship with a Dubliner, I understand the tourist trap, but I still tend to frequent the area because it's a good laugh, love the live music, always great atmosphere, rarely have more than 3+ drinks though because of the expense. Can understand people getting upset with prices. But if you're made aware before hand, it's not so much of a shock. I really enjoy O'Neills by Molly Malone statue. Best Guinness served in there, downstairs bar.
Been there - didn't enjoy that area for going to the pubs there. Toner's and The Liberty Belle were my favorite spots that I had the enjoyment of drinking at!
I get it. It's like going to New Orleans and just doing Bourbon Street. The locals wouldn't be caught dead, but if you're a tourist, you aren't going to miss it.
Just visited Dublin, kept running into a place called The Bankers at the edge of the Temple Bar area. Had some tourists like myself and some locals too. Pint was 6,40, I think. The Bankers was nicely busy, not too crowded but far from dead too, good craic!
I think big groups of tourists struggle to get into many of the late night spots outside of temple bar area. A lot of British tourists see it as a strip like on spanish resorts.
Didn’t go there myself, what I can say is that a pint of Guinness is around €6 -€8 everywhere else in around temple bar I went unless I was out the city centre it went to €5.50 I have also realised for myself personally. That a pint can vary in quality not by much when you find a decent place pouring it regularly. But it definitely for me can vary a little. I went Bowes which was great but my favourite place for a Guinness was the old storehouse.
Temple Bar is where I used to go in my 20s I remember in 1995 it was £2.45 for the the bottles of beer(330ml) in Buskers, and Guinness was a little cheaper. Oh, and Temple Bar area gets its name from Temple Barre, and old French word for market or gathering place. And the pub named itself after the area.
This is 100% why The Temple Bar (The pub not the place) is always rammed full of tourists but with no locals. I live in London but have an Irish family & when they come here they don’t give a shit about going to central London & paying £8 a pint whereas they’d never do the same in central Dublin. I guess people’s attitudes are just different when they’re on holiday.
Temple Bar area has been like that for 20 years. The best place in temple bar was (maybe still there) is a sit in kebab place in the area. And up behind the central bank there was a quality wee pub called The Foggy Dew. Been a long time.
Hey Darragh,my memories of The Temple Bar pub in Temple Bar was of the regular price hikes over the evening. So say 8 Euro in the afternoon, 9 Euro after 5pm, 11 Euro after 7 pm and who knows after that. ypor review did not account for the time of day. Maybe you should revisit on a Saturday at different times of the evening.
Can you make a video in Waterford and try and find out what makes a Blaa different to any other bread roll? This baffles me but you are the man to uncover the truth
Hey Daragh, like this style of vid that you've done. As for the daft bint who likes getting ripped off, I've got a few Orion video players in the loft for sale 😂. Worked over in Dubs during the mid to late 90s, and all the Irish lads told me to avoid Temple Bar as it's overhyped and pricey. Looks like things don't change much. Plenty of suckers ready to part with their readies.
You see on Facebook people put up picture of a receipt from temple bar especially later on in the night and the price is shocking. It's about time that place was named and shamed, it's ridiculous how bad it Is.
It's funny. I was in Dublin a lot up to the start of the summer and a few times I was up for a sneaky pint before I'd get the bus home, but I never knew which place to try. Mulligan's is literally around corner from where I'd get my bus, but I never ventured down Poolbeg St, really.
Was in Dublin last year absolutely loved the Guinness in the temple bar but I’m certainly no guru, was expensive but one off didn’t mind although I would definitely check out those other pubs when I’m next in Dublin. Cheers 🍻
Just came back from 10 days in Ireland. We walked by the Temple bar and took a picture. We drank elsewhere. I did go to gravediggers the night before I left but I spent most of the trip in Galway and Donegal. Guinness does not travel well. It’s not the same in the states or most of Europe.
Love Dublin but this year we were priced out visiting due to the price of the hotels, we went to Belfast instead fantastic City but the Guinness was better in Dublin! Loads of better pubs than the temple bar tho!!
Aye, I started doing Belfast in 2016. Much cheaper and wider availability of Airbnbs. The "no trackkies" policy of some pubs was an absolute ballache though.
Its videos like this that help us tourists save the money we work so hard to earn. 8 euro 95 for a pint is silly money. I would say they are taking advantage, especially with it being so busy there.
I was there few months ago .. im from wicklow had a few very expensive pints but i have to say they staff were friendly outgoing and i was made very welcome...... thats my twopence worth
I had a couple pints in temple I got some weed out front so I was happy it was two days before st patty's anyways I enjoyed the bar coming from hawaii !
Just the feeling of being ripped off sticks in my mind and i find it unbearable. So thats £7.87 for me, would have one and go somewhere else. Enjoyed Guinness Guru channel glad your expanding and doing more content.
Respect for this video .Im a Dubliner and I can tell you Temple bar is a horrible tourist trap . Very expensive and also it's about 15 years out of date by comparison to the rest of Dublin . South William street is the mecca in my opinion .
I feel seen , i went dubs in 2016 did the tourists things ie guinness factory poured me pint & did a music pub crawl. First place i went when i got off plane was temple bar. But i only went once . Went over liffy bridge to grafton street & found a wee pub & karaoke. Much cheaper but that was a long ole time ago & prices have changed & inflation but temple bar i think have the highest price for a pint of guinness even back in 2016 Anyway sharing is caring Slàn 👋
