Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree was announced back in February and since then we've dove into the lore. We discuss a character that has been forgotten to time by the lore and development of Elden Ring, the Zamor Knights. Elden Ring is a 2022 action role-playing game developed by FromSoftware. It was directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki with worldbuilding provided by fantasy writer George R. R. Martin.

Zamor/Romaz. Roma. (Aka gypsies). Nomadic merchants: We are a travelling people. If they are related to the frenzied flame - it could be that they are the same people. And that the merchants are their descendants. While the Zamor we fight are the last few warriors and able bodied fighters of their kin. It is a trend in japanese folklore and culture that the descendants of supernatural beings are always smaller or diminished with each generation.

I like this hypothesis, even though I doubt it is a fully thought out decision on FromSoft's part. The same pattern of beings lessened over the generations is of course seen with the Giants to Trolls, and the ancients - including Godfrey and resurrected skeletons - being larger than the modern people of the Lands Between; the vulgar militia are the most extreme example of this, and they are obviously vulgar precisely because they are the most diminished

I would say the Magma Wyrms are commonly forgotten. They're often seen as just an offshoot of the dragon lore, but their weapons, incantations, and locations all suggest there is more to the story. The fact that half the known Magma Wyrms are located near or around Mt. Gelmir, along with their affinity for lava, suggest they have a closer connection to Rykard and the Great Serpent than most would suspect.

The Magma Wyrms were heroes who partook in Dragon Communion and were cursed for it, as mentioned in the item description for the Magma Wyrms Scalesword. Yura also warns/informs you about Dragon Communion and it's perils. Your eyes becoming reptilian after obtaining Dragon Incantations is presumably the first step in this process.

Kind of interesting that you mention that, cause now that I think about it.. we don't even know what shabriri even is? Was he a human, or perhaps he was something else like a troll, a giant, or even a zamor.

I thought shabriri was like a token of the outer god of frienzied flame or something. Something similar to Malenia or Mohg but of a smaller scale since the frenzied flame already has the 3 fingers.

They fight like fluid water, as in a dance, like the Black Knife Assassins, and even, the warrior who imprisoned (the god of) Rot... could this mean that they were relatives of the Black Knives? Likely, especially because of their lanky and female-like bodies, they may be related to them somehow. Also important is that they use ice, which is a form of water, which makes an even stronger conection to the Blue Dancer warrior, since his philosophy is about movement and refusing to stay still, like the flow of water in a stream. The Zamor appear to be related to the Black Knives, but how? Nobody knows of course, but I like to think they are a sister culture to the Black Knives, as the Zamor town was so strong and seemingly (formerly) widespread, they had discovered and had contact with the Ancient Cities of Nokron and Nokstella. But more than those two, I think their strongest connection to the Nox was through the Nameless Eternal City, which is now long lost and almost entirely destroyed, JUST like the ZAMOR, and it's the closest to the Zamor ruins I guess. The Nox culture entirely revolves around the stars, but then they were banished by the Greater Will deep underground. Where do the Zamor find themselves? The Mountaintops, the place closest tp the stars, where Astrologers lived, plus the Zamor use frost magic which connects them to glintstone sorcery and therefor the stars, and therefor, the Nox. The final thing I will say in this totally insane speculation is that the Nox is thought to be the origin of the Black Knife Assassins. Which means, if the Zamor are the sister culture to the Black Knife Assassins and now I guess also the Nox, does that mean the Zamor are Numen, or Nightfolk? They do have white/silver-white hair, so coukd that be? The three Sister Cultures; the Nox, the Black Knife Assassins, and the Zamor. What ya'll think? Am I totally insane, or kind of right? I sure do wish Ziostorm seeing this...

They could be one of the big missing parts of the law, they have water like movements like malenia, ice magic like ranni, white hair like malekith and/or Godfrey (they could be linked in some way too through beast like strength and having a beast attached to him), and lots of interactions with the fire giants in early times, seems like they're connected to a lot

But like the nox swordstress' let's say, I don't think they're numen. But the origins of their culture and perhaps even their lineage definitely implies connection

So glad you covered this! Ive always been fascinated by the Zamor in this game. That Knight in the evergaol bodied me quite a bit during my first playthrough. Amazing moveset and design. It is sad that it looks like a lot of the Mountaintops had to get cut or limited at the end of development (i dont hate the area like many do though). There could have been more to explore and uncover about these different groups.

Their bodies are stretched with longer than normal limbs like the demigods, Marika, and Rennala. Their body also seems to be feminine, along with their general fighting style and demeanor. It's possible that they are numens and that's why they served Marika. We know that Rennala came from the mountain tops, so the connection between their body types fits.

The link to frenzied flame is strengthened by us finding Shabriri right outside the Zamor ruins. My working theory requires wide picture of the ancient history of the Lands Between. It is that the Zamor are Numen that arrived with the great tree (precursor to the erdtree). Their arrival was like most arrivals from outer beings: by meteor. And the great tree was the meteor that created the central sea on the map. This meteor caused a cataclysm which destroyed the continent spanning city of the titans, ancestors of the giants, and buried it beneath molten rock. The same molten rock that is splattered across the titans’ divine towers. The giants who survived gave themselves to the fell god in an act of vengeance and burned down the great tree, leaving a stump that would become the crucible and later the erdtree. If the great tree was revered by the Numen, they would have a strong motive to become bitter enemies of the fell god and the giants. The frenzied flame to me has always seemed like an evolution or offshoot of the fell god, so it’s thematic to have Zamor struggling against its madness and succumbing to it on occasion. Not sure yet about their shackles, but I’m fairly certain they helped Marika by turning the mountaintops from a boreal zone into a frozen wasteland with their native ice magic. Maybe they were imprisoned by her and forced to do that.

I was thinking, like, maybe the Zamor Knights were trying to contain the Frenzied Flame, and any strong flames (Giant’s Flame). Since fire is all about energy, destruction, and rebirth, frost/ice would be their opposite, being stillness, contraction, and concealment. So maybe sealing parts the Flame inside of themselves, and learning the ways of frost and cold, would prevent its expanding devastation.

I think they’re legit, but I wonder if it was possibly just a page prepared to pitch to Bandai Namco. Lot of the text is very strange like using the word “cope.” But, they went through all the trouble of creating preorder pages, scheduled tweet announcements, and working links so idk. The Claymen are definitely one of my favorite enemy’s in the game. Not only are they different from everything else gameplay wise and visually, we have almost no lore on them. If you decide to make a video on them some time, I would definitely watch it

The Zamor Knight in the Ervergaol also drops the radagon scarseal, hinting at a connection. Also he's called an ancient hero of zamor, but it's locked in an evergaol. Maybe they were decimated to cover everything about the Mountaintop's. Maybe after Radagon left Renalla and became Marika, they were hounded

Idk if there should alwaysbe a connection to irl lore, but I just found this: There's a french revolutionary ex-slave which belonged to, and later denounced, a french aristocrat. He was named simply Zamor. He was cast away by his master when she found out he had revolutionary ideas. Would be consistent with the shackles and the heretical magic

It doesn't seem likely. Similar body shape is all that connects them, and it's not something super specific. Just a tall and thin body. Goldmask is just some guy (biologically, obviously he's more important than that), and the Onyx/Alabaster Lords' most key aspects are gravity magic and stone skin. There's no real way to know if the Zamor have the stone skin (I think I've seen them bleed when hit, so probably not, but not sure), but they definitely don't use gravity magic.

The Zamor fortress was destroyed because they were a direct threat to queen Marika. Most things are destroyed or shackled by the Golden Order to keep Marika in power because she is expendable to the greater will. Zamor knights possibly have the potential to slay a god if given the right weapons and circumstances. The one in the evergaol might have either been a challenger or a potential conscript that turned traitor. This challenger or traitor may have lead to the demise of their people. We may never know?

I think these things that you say are done away with will be expanded on in the DLC, Like frost, gravity, and blood/aberrant stuff. Maybe we will even get incantation versions of the spell categories and vice versa.

Zamor remind more a lot of The Others/White Walkers from A Song of Ice and Fire which is probably not surprising since George RR Martin wrote that. While Game of Throne portrayed The Others as some sort of ice demon, the books and GRRM himself describe them as inhumanly beautiful, lithe, tall, LIVING humanoid creatures who use weapon and armor made of ice as well as ice magic, and of course, necromancy. He explicitly stated that the Others are not undead. As you see, Knights of Zamor do look like undead creatures at the first glance due to their tall, thin, and vague zombie-like posture, but you would soon realize they are actually graceful fighters. Despite their ancient looking design, Zamor Knights mask is rather delicate, depicting an androgynous face, which IMO, invoke an image of fey/elven creatures. Again, GRRM's description of The Others best sum up as Ice Elves.

Given the association Frost has with a certain leaden Full Moon it would be interesting to consider whether there's any connection there. Given the flowing, dance-like moves that they have, perhaps they were the ancestors of the Nox? We know astrologers became Glintstone sorcerers so perhaps some Zamor became the Nox? Having Radagon's Scarseal also makes one consider that Radagon perhaps existed since the time of the War of the Giants? A fun thing is that googling "Zamor" can actually give you an entry in wikipedia about a slave in the French Revolution ousting his master and being someone who never let status get in the way: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zamor Not sure how related they are, but here's a small bit of history trivia anyways.

Look at all the little tidbits that we wouldn't have otherwise gotten if there was a 30 second teaser trailer released at TGA. It actually makes sense if they were tied to the Frenzied Flame ending at one point since Shabriri is right next to the Zamor Ruins.

Just a thought. The ZAMOR could have become the merchants. Exiled from the mountain tops of the giants. Imprisoned because Shabriri accused them of communion with the frenzied flames. Would explain the “red eyed” description in the code.

My theory on the Zamor is they're related to the blue fairy who taught the blind swordsman how to fight the god of rot. Theu have very similar weapon arts to water fowl dance and they're swords looks like a frozen version of the fairy flowing water sword. Tldr I thi k theure the spirits/fairybof the frozen river in the mountaintops

The Zamor fighting the Fire Giants and they also posses Locks.. I see some connections. Guys if you consum Dragon Hearts you turn into a Dragon-like creature, then what happens if someone consumes Fire Giant Hearts. Maybe that was the Missing Link to Radagons creation. Ever wonderd how the Fire Giants died or what exactly killed them ? Maybe they ingested something trough there second giant mouth that caused Deathblight, but what could that be ? Another conection is Radagons Seal thats made out of Thorns that Blocks the Entrance to the Erdtree. Maybe Radagon was made/created at first to be secretly send to the Mountaintops to Deal with the Fire Giants, gaining there Trust because of his Red Locks and poisend them with something thats Deathblight-like maybe trough the early stages of the Erdtree (the Crucible Era) what we see that killed the Fire Giants must be the Primordial Form of Deathblight Thorns, but the Activasion caused trough some unown means. I also believe that Radagon bewitched the Gloam-Eyed Queen just as he did with Rennala. And Melina is the Child Born out of Radagon and the Gloam-Eyed Queen. After her defeat I believe that Melina who was still just a Infant at that Time was raised as a "Maiden" for the Golden Order unbeknowst to her Origin and true Heritage. While most traces of the Gloam-Eyed Queens Era were destroyed which includes the Crucible Era itself. Radagon is just as old as Marika the Eternal if you think about it. And its never mentioned that the Gloam-Eyed Queen died, her being the Snow Witch that teaches Ranni as if she was her own Daughter.

I think the blind swordsman is 100% a zamor warrior, in the prosthesis wearer heirloom hes identical in height to malenia and zamor warriors also used curved swords. +The warrior set that references the blind swordsman has a little white hair part that is shortened, possibly zamor hair but cut short It would also explain how he was able to seal the outer god of rot and be able to teach Malenia combat in his lifetime, and he could still possibly be alive.

It's interesting to me that the Zamor knights seem to have something to do with the black flame. Could they at some point have had something to do with the godskin apostles or the gloam eyed queen? They use frost magic and the Icy Chrone that Ranni met seems like she could have been the Gloam eyed queen and she was an expert in Ice Magic. Could she have taught the Zamor knights that spell? IDK something to think about.

Hey Zio. I'm coming back to this video with a theory, after watching Vaati's video about the dragons. The dragons migrated to the mountain tops, and adopted the environment in trait. In the video, him and Loki theorize that there was a land bridge at some point in the past, connecting caelid and the mountain tops, with Farum in the middle. We know that the draconian people lived with the dragons, then we have no history on where they went. The Zamor have an ancient rivalry with the Giants, and the Giants bested the dragons upon their arrival to the mountains. The Zamor people have innate frost abilities. One could speculate that the draconian people, half dragon/half human, were able to adopt their environment in trait, like their dragon kin. Leading one to speculate that the Zamor people are what's left of the draconian race.... They were there for the fight between dragons and Giants. And may even partook in the battle...

With their tall, slender frames and elegant dance-like fighting style, I can’t help but compare them to elves of many modern fantasy settings, and the onyx and alabaster lords. They might be some sort of descendant or offshoot of them? Or otherwise somehow related?

In my opinion i think Ranni’s instructor was a Zamor mage of some sort but was some sort of kin of them, and touching base on her as a character will give us more context of the Zamor but i could be wrong…

My most insane, least supportable theory is that the Zamor are the progenitors of the Numen, and that great lengths were taken to hide the Numens' heritage so it wouldn't seem like Marika came from "common" people. Evidence is admittedly absurdly thin, but hear me out anyway: 1) Both the Numen and the Zamor were described as "long-lived." While I don't think the Zamor are ever described as "seldom born" there sure aren't many. 2) The Zamor who don't appear in the mountaintop appear 1) holding Radagon's scarseal, or 2) near the capital. 3) This is where Shabriri appears to us. Shabriri was convicted of slander, but the exact nature of his slander is concealed. It seems likely that the royal family went to great lengths to shut him up. 4) They fight with flowy movements much like the Numen Black Knives.

Best enemys hands down. Love the armor, love the sword, love the magic. Also in early builts the AOW of the sword was brooken. You could spam it and permastun most bosses for the poise dmg of the storm was overtuned as fuck.

Elden Ring DLC dropping February 2024 on Elden Ring 2 year anniversary. Leaked by a company called "Thrustmaster" that makes gaming controllers & are collaborating with Bandai Namco to make custom ER SOTE controllers. They posted the controllers will release in February 2024 in sync with the DLC release & then immediately took down the entire page probably cuz they weren't supposed to leak this shit. I wonder of Malenia's teacher and Ranni's teacher were both from Zamor. Malenia because of the sword techniques, gentleness, and the flowing like water. Ranni because her teacher was an ice witch if i rememebr correctly

Maybe they ingested something that caused the Deathblight, but what could that be ? Also Radagons Seal thats made out of Thorns Blocks the Entrance to the Erdtree. Maybe Radagon was made/created at first to be secretly send to the Mountaintops to Deal with the Fire Giants, gaining there Trust because of his Red Locks and poisend them to cause something Deathblight-like maybe trough the early stages of the Erdtree (the Crucible Era) what we see that killed the Fire Giants must be the Primordial Form of Deathblight Thorns, but the Activasion caused trough some unown means. I also believe that Radagon bewitched the Gloam-Eyed Queen just as he did with Rennala. And Melina is the Child Born out of Radagon and the Gloam-Eyed Queen. After that everything happens as we know so far and then I believe that Melina was raised as a "Maiden" for the Golden Order. While most traces of the Gloam-Eyed Queens Era were destroyed.
