I’ve never played against Koma but I’ve seen it and it looks insane in casual games. It would be nearly game winning if played from the 99. Usually must kill commanders at least give you a turn cycle to remove them before they can go off but Koma gives you 9 power by the time you untap. I try to play more exile removal anyway but thinking of the games I’ve played, I don’t see a lot of exile removal from other people. It should have either made 1/1 tokens or only one 3/3 on your own upkeep. Even four 1/1 tokens in a turn rotation sounds overpowered for certain strategies. Any casual game with Koma should immediately be archenemy unless someone else has an even more broken commander.
On Arena, my least fave commanders to go against in Brawl are Rusko, Clockmaker. Poq, Mythweaver is pretty obnoxious. First Sliver always ends in Sultai Ultimatum. It's boringly predictable but hard to stop. I don't play a lot of hell queue, so it's annoying when a new overpowered commander gets put against mid tier decks for 6 months until its weight is assigned.
My top 3 hated commander to play against for me is Kenneth as everyone plays that deck as the same, Etali, primal conqueror with all the blink effects and recently miirym with all those copy dragons lol
My buddy has a miirym deck with all the best dragons in that color identity, besides copper dragon, and my god is it oppressive. Play miirym, next turn play 1 dragon, oops biggest threat immediately. I will stand my ground that miirym shouldn’t have ward. A card that powerful should need ways to protect itself instead of having built in protection
Sweet. I play Etali. I'm safe LOL. JK though I wouldn't be surprised if Etali, Primal Conquerer was up there in most hated. Its etb is busted abusable. Its only real saving grace is that the spells it steals scale with openents decks and is chaos so its a bit random and fun. Still though, It has a bit too much one sided advantage IMO
Nah, the koma one is valid, it just becomes a degenerate deck with a commander impossible to remove and a control strategy that turns into beat down with its creatures EVERY upkeep "Oh its 7 mana, it takes too much to cast" except its the degenerate combo of blue green which means play it on turn 4 at the latest, and its uncounterable, so you have to try and remove it on board while praying they dont have another serpent to make it indestructible... Or you know, a freaking counter because they are in blue and have all the mana in the world
It's a monstrosity let me tell you. In my playgroup we have to have specific decks to have a chance. Some archetypes flat out don't work once the Koma engine is going
I hated playing against Hakbal of the Surging Soul, super long turns and gets out of control super fast. Sitting there for 15-20 minutes waiting for your turn sometimes, 10 minutes just from the Hakbal player.
@PubStompMTG yeah the merfolk precon from Ixalan. The thing is actually TOO GOOD, to the point where it's un-fun to play against lol. All the creatures get huge super fast and the turns take forever.
One commander that was not mentioned was Stella Lee, Wild Card. A lot of groups know that Stella Lee can pop off at any time, so they focus on removing the player, or trying to keep Stella Lee off the board.
Tergrid is my favorite deck. I have mine all foil, many borderless foils, Chrome Mox, Mox Diamond, Textured Jeweled Lotus. Probably one of my favorite legendary creature arts in the game and the card does everything I like doing, great control card. I only bust the deck out in high powered games, though. I would never pull it apart just because some people don't like it, that's ridiculous. As long as I'm playing with mature individuals and we all know what we're going in for, I've never had a problem with the deck. I have two lower powered versions of her deck helmed by Braids, Arisen Nightmare and the other by Gisa, Glorious Resurrector, just in case.
