Breakfalling is also useful _in day to day life_ - we're bipeds, and everyone trips over sometimes. I've had a broken leg and slipped on my crutches while racing into a hospital entrance to make a physio rehab appointment on a rainy day, and somehow did a perfect side full body breakfall _on the side of my broken leg._ And didn't do any damage at all. The hospital reception staff had run over expecting me to have badly exacerbated my injuries and were amazed when I got up, checked myself out and was fine (except for the pre existing broken leg of course). I could have done some serious damage and rebroken my leg if I hadn't fluked that landing as a reflex.
I too have been the "ultimate Uke" because of my breakfall abilities . I have been slammed on tatamis, mats , carpet over concrete , regular concrete , linoleum and the floor of a raquett ball court . It's also saved me while snowboarding and all around trips and falls.
Don’t forget to practice them with 1 arm as well. Sometimes you cant get the second arm in a position to slap the floor . Especially in judo. We had to practice our breakfalls at the start of class everyday. It also can save your life if you fall of a ladder.
Not too many people would post that shot of them getting dropped like that! Respect to you for being a humble man! Btw.. I’ve been watching you for more than 11 years now, I learned so much from you 🙏🏼
It's not about getting knocked down. It is about getting back up. And you do it so well Shane. You're a great teacher. Thank you for years of great content.
I ised to love pro wrestling, built a ring in my backyard and had a backyard wrestling events, for several years, falling from slams and such, helped my falls so much. Learned in tkd perfected in backyard wrestling. Protects from falling on ice water etc
I like how you're willing to show yourself getting hit and showing how you (in the fighting game community would say) teching a fall. Also ironically enough, bboying is great way to practice collapsing onto the floor in numerous ways while avoiding injury.
Saved my life the other day, I was recording a music video out the back of a car. Wasn’t secured properly and feel out the back at nothing crazy maybe about 15 mph. I had a camera with a gymbal in one hand, had that high in the air but broke fell with my other hand and didn’t smash my head back into the concrete. Recorded it all. Got back up and shot it again.
The first drop reminded me of the way you're taught to take a "back bump" in pro wrestling (ironically the fake one). Trying to land as flat as possible with your arms out so the impact is absorbed throughout the body.
That first breakfall u did is way different than the one u did in the fight. Nothing higher than 45 degrees. I saw a guy in the gym that did it exactlly like ur first one and yep he had to go to the emergency room
Someone caught my kick and lifted my foot over my head until I lost balance and I slammed hard on my back. Since that day I've been practicing these lol good tip coach
Soy una persona acrobatica. Y es cierto que se vuelve algo instintivo y automatico, los reflejos al caer. Siempre en el futbol, hay situaciones donde caes, y el cuerpo aprende cuales son las maneras mas seguras y menos dolorosas.
First thing they teach you in Judo - how to fall properly. My first Judo class are sprained my ankle from throwing my self to the floor while trying learn how to properly fall. That's when I realised Judo is SERIOUS!
Butt and judo they teach you how to break fall. It's important to know how to fall the ground has no losses😂. Trust me it's easy to dislocate your shoulder or break your arm trying to brace yourself. Knowing how to fall in general is important. Roll... For people that train every week
Not to make it dark, but in my past life I had overdosed on multiple occasions when the last thing I remembered was standing up, and always wondered how I didn't smash my face or break my head open falling to the tile. I think the body is incredible with what it can instinctually do when our conscious mind is shut off.
I find i can't really break fall when being swept from the clinch. My arms are really available to slap the ground. Sometimes when i get swept, I land straight on my back and its so hard and fast, I hit my head on ground.
So many people break their own arms because they don't practice break falls! It's so important but people would rather avoid takedowns all together because they're scared of getting hurt. Guess what when you really are getting taken down or sweeped you will be the one hurting yourself
Not just Muay Thai but any martial art that is primarily striking based. You might not even get swept, tackled or thrown. You might just fall, trip, roll an ankle. These things happen to everyone. You don’t know when you might be fighting on loose, uneven ground.
If your unconscious your unconscious there is no recollection of what you learned . Obviously dazed from a nasty blow but when your completely out cold nothing will help. Fall on your foot wrong and your looking like mirco cro cop after Gabriel Gonzaga
My extremely limited knowledge of grappling saved my ass the last time I ate shit on some wet outdoor stairs, took a graceful fall and didn’t hit my head on the corner.
You can’t do that when you seriously get hurt, even the most instinctual and people of highest reflexes .Your motor functions just go and how you fall,is up to gravity. Now you can from sweeps , or just getting hit off balance.
