Stefan Kießling's ghost goal was insane. The funny thing about that he orignially missed the shot but he saw his teammates coming to him as the ball was in the net

IMO the most infamous ghost goal that I know of was Sulley Muntari's goal in the match between AC Milan and Juventus in the 2011/12 Serie A. It was a title decider, and the decision is still being talked about to this day in Italian football circles.

I remember celebrating the Frank Lampard “goal” and then realising that it wasn’t given despite it being clearly over the line and a goal. When I tell you the people I was watching it with were pissed, the tv almost got thrown across the room 😅

I’d never seen that Reading goal before and when the clip played I wasn’t sure which shot was given it was that bad

Mark Hughes scored quite a unique one at the Dell for Saints in the 90's against Leeds - he volleyed it so hard into the back of the net, that it rebounded back out before the officials saw it go in.

There was another Hawkeye failure earlier this season, Huddersfield scored against Blackpool but goal was never given. I was actually at the game and everyone in the stadium was so confused, people were finding clips on Twitter about 20 mins after showing it had gone in and our fans were pissed. Thankfully it didn't make a difference come end of the season so no surprise people remember the Sheffield United incident and not this one.

You should do these honorable mentions, which will be added on Part 2 of your video: 1.AC Milan vs Juventus in 2012. Sulley Muntari had a goal being disallowed, despite it went to line before being bounced back by Gianluigi Buffon. The game ended in a draw and thus allowed Juventus to win the Scudetto. This also changed the Italian football, where 2 Milan sides didn't taste the Champions League glory for almost 10 years while Juventus won 9 consecutive Scudettos between 2012 and 2020, after which they crumbled down and then 2 Milan sides won each other in 2021 and 2022. 2.England vs Ukraine in 2012. Marko Devic scored a goal, which was disallowed because the ball accidentally hit by John Terry out of the goal line. Ukraine, who were the co-hosts of Euro 2012 along with Poland, lost by Wayne Rooney's solitary goal and were eliminated. 3.Barcelona vs Valencia in 2017. Lionel Messi's ball was hit by Valencian goalkeeper Neto, at which it passed Neto toward the goal line by several inches, but the referee disallowed because he was out of the sight. Barcelona failed to win this game after that (1-1). 4.Kasimpasa vs Galatasaray in 2015. It's just like what happened for Frank Lampard. Ryan Donk fired a rocket, at which the ball hit the crossbar and fell to 9 cm inside the line. The host, who trailed 0-1 at the time Donk's goal was anulled, only narrowly avoided defeat by 2-2 draw. 5.Spurs vs Chelsea in 2012. Juan Mata had a goal being given, despite the referee claimed that there was one Spurs player who deflected the ball out of the goal line. On a rare occasions, a ghost goal can also happened during the penalty kick, such as the one happened by Nigerian national football team during the 2000 AFCON Final, when they, as co-hosts along with Ghana, faced big favourites Cameroon. Victor Ikpeba had a ball being hit by the crossbar, at which it fell to several inches of goal line. The referee, however, recognized Ikpeba's penalty as a "missed one" because of nature rule, where the penalty may only be scored if the ball entered the goal line. Nigeria then failed to win the title by losing 3-4 after drawing 2-2 in 120 minutes. This harsh referee decision sparked a heavy riots in Lagos after the game.

If you ever want to make a part 2, I've got a suggestion: Benfica - Porto 2004/05 season. Some context: Porto just came of the Champions League winning season, but they were struggling without Mourinho and Deco. Benfica were finally on the rise after the darkest period in the club's history (11 years without a league title). Porto took the lead. Then the game went completely off the rails (not that uncommon) with Pepe and Nuno Gomes being sent off. Then the situation itself: Petit (the best one) takes a long range shot. Vitor Baía fumbles the ball, whose last touch on the ground was on the line before it seems to go in. Estádio da Luz celebrates, before it is clear that the ref won't give it. The ref then starts distributing yellow cards to the Benfica players yelling at him. Benfica lost that match, but would go on to win the league. But to this day, this is still one of the most contested incidents in Tugão lore. Porto fans had a habit of calling Vitor Baia "the best GK in the world" after winning the UCL. To Benfica fans, it coined the phrase: "he is so good, he can save goals inside the line"

Fun fact: ronaldos ghost goal against serbia saved someone’s life. Some guy got on the pitch an picked up ronaldos captain badge that he threw on the ground moments before. The guy took it home and sold it for a lot of money. He used the money to pay for his daughter’s hospital bills and she survived.

Kießlings's goal, probably the most hilarious one, was the only one of those I actually witnessed live. Not in the stadium itself but still. It was a really funny broadcast. And since Leverkusen only stood a single point over 5th place at the end of the season I'm really happy it counted haha

Great video. I remember all of these goals clearly. One goal which I was hoping to be included was the ghost goal in the match between Whitehawk and Stourbridge in the FA Cup first round. With the match at 1-1 going into injury time, one of Whitehawks players hit a spectacular 30 yard volley into the back of the net to win them the tie. However, it wasn't given because the referee had accidentally blown the full time whistle a split second before the ball actually goes in. He is unable to reverse the decision, meaning the teams had to go to a replay, which Stourbridge won 3-0.

The Villa vs Sheffield goal was funny. Because almost every pundit was saying "well, they still had VAR. Why didn't the referee insist on going to the monitor and looking at it themselves". BECAUSE THERE IS GOAL LINE TECHNOLOGY! You wally! For me, the greatest injustice of a ghost goal, was 08/09 Crystal Palace vs Bristol City, at Ashton Gate. Freddie Sears' shot, went in the goal, and ricocheted off the metal bar to keep the net tight. The game ended a 1-0 loss. But if it ended 1-1 or 0-1 to us. It could have spared us an incredibly tense last day of the season. With us needing at least 1 point, and Sheff. Wednesday needing 3 points.. In probably the tensest games i've ever watched..

I watched that England 2010 game at school when I was 11. Don't think it would have changed the difference in the result but I remember that day like it was yesterday

As a Bournemouth fan I hated that season so much, there were a lot of bad calls against us and that was just the cherry on top of it all.

About the 1966 final game, all the recent reviews of that goal, that I saw, using modern technology say that the ball didn't cross the line completely. This video is the first time I see one saying it was a goal. Guess we still don't know for sure 😂😂

For me the England vs. Germany one was the most insane non-goal I've ever seen, mainly because Lampard is my favorite player of all-time. Dude scored from CM like he was Messi, and him and Drogba ran riot for a long time. The ball wasn't like barely on the line, it was a foot over.

You also forgot the match in 2011/12 season where Milan faced Juventus in San Siro and it was 1-1 until Sulley Muntari tapped the ball over the line but as expected,it wasn't counted as one and that lead to Milan not being able to win the Scudetto and it had started the Milan Banter era.

The earliest ghost goal I remembet that isnt infamous is the one between Bristol City and Crystal Palace by Freddie Sears where the ball goes in the net, clear as day, and yet it hits the bar at the bottom of the back of the net and flies out again. Ref had no idea and Warnock was doing his nut postmatch in a radio call.

Ghost goals; When a goal is either awarded despite the ball not crossing the line example Liverpool vs Chelsea or isn't awarded despite the ball crossing example England vs Germany. Because of that infamous moment where Lampard did score but it was incorrectly disallowed, goal line technology had to be implemented for the next World Cup onwards and the top 5 leagues also uses it till this day.

That Lampard goal had me screaming with rage at the TV. Couldn't believe what i was seeing.

It’s been over 13 years and I can’t get over how egregious that Lampard disallowed was.

Im an Atletico Madrid fan and I remember one that actually happened in the 22/23 season. so, we played against Espanyol and around the minute 44 Carrasco took a shot and Pacheco saved it, it was heading towards Griezmann and went for a simple goal, BUT Pacheco saved it off the line and Atletico Madrid's players asked for the goal. The referee went to the VAR and gave it, it was revealed the next day that it wasnt a goal. I think it could have been the goal that made Espanyol descend so, the main reason it was given it was because the cameras werent in a good position and you couldnt tell if it went it. (you can watch the recap of the game in La Liga's channel so you see for yourself). Atletico Madrid is a shitty club but its worth mentioning the ''goal''

The Bayern vs Nürnberg one you mentioned has another interesting backstory. Because of that goal Nürnberg appealed against the result and the game was being replayed. That already was controversial as DFB just before that stated that the wouldn't have matches replayed due to false decisions by the referees anymore. In order to have the game replayed Nürnberg needed to proof that the ref and his linesmen were breaking football rules by not properly comunicating on what has happened and that was causing the goal to wrongly being awarded. The managed to do so after a public discussion and the game was replayed. Nürnberg then lost the rematch 4 - 1. At the end of that season the got relegated on goals. If the original result had stood they would have just managed to stay in the league meaning that by appealing to the result they caused themself to be relegated.

When a ghost goal happens, people are mad. Saying this, saying that. When goal-line technology exists and the ball crosses the line, the same thing happens. When the referee will be replaced with an automatic robot, the same thing happens. What is going on with football fans nowadays? 🥶

I remember the ronaldo one so well. I'm a portugal fan and I was watching the game with my parents and I knew it had gone in I didn't even need the replay. My parents said that if they didn't give it then it probably didn't go in. I insisted. But when the replay confirmed what I was saying. WE WENT FUCKING MENTAL 😂🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹

I have two notable mentions, one from my neck of the woods and the other one... from thereabouts: - There was this famous phantom goal in 2011 here in Costa Rica that my club (Alajuelense) was a victim of... the problem with that wasn't that the ball did not cross the line, or barely crossed the line, or entirely crossed but was blink-and-miss... the problem was that *the ball went all the way to the back of the net* , players celebrated... and neither one of the three blind mice acknowledged it. Would have been an equalizer as we were 1-0 down... - The other one is far less obscure: Panama against us for the final matchday of CONCACAF qualification for the 2018 World Cup. We were 0-1 up early on the second half, but Panama equalized through a ball that did not go through at all... but the goal was given. Panama scored once more before injury time (albeit legit) which resulted in them qualifying directly, and also leaving the US without a chance as they lost in Port of Spain; and with Honduras beating Mexico 3-2 meant that they were unable to make it to the CONCACAF-AFC intercontinental playoff either.

I don't know what clips are available but it might be worth doing a video focusing more on other leagues. With the exception of the Bayer goal, these all seemed to be English or international.
