Charli did not make her fam rich. The Damelios were rich before Charli got famous. Their father is a politician. They had a private chef at home. They already owned a mansion. They dont know what hard work is.
There is something wrong with society if people like Charlie can live like they do while others starve working 2 jobs. She doesn’t work millions of time harder than most people yet she has that much money. The wealth gap is insane and we demand action
I feel like it partially is that way because the financial industry and people on top want to convince us that lifestyle is the dream so that we keep working and working when in reality most people will never obtain that wealth or even close to it
I mean, look at Jeff Bezos. He obviously deserves some money for creating Amazon, but 144 billion? If someone made $100,000 every hour, eight hours a day, five days a week for 80 years, they STILL wouldn't make as much money as him. Crazy, isn't it? They would have to work almost one *thousand* years in order to get to the same level he's at. That's $100,000 per hour, not per year
I used to tell people to suck it up, that I was working two jobs with no complaint, 80-110 hours a week to get ahead.... Then one day, it hit me, oh shit, this is why I drink so much, I'm depressed because I am a slave and the harder I work the more I impose this crap onto other people.
@@juvenilia_in_hell I mean, the majority of my life is still filled with doing things I don't want to do, but I'm in community college now hopefully becoming a more rounded person and finding a way to contribute more than I take to society in a way that is genuine.
something that just feels weird is that even if they didn't get famous YOU KNOOW they were well off enough to where they would never want to step foot into a walmart
@@vvotchme1576to be fair to them i don't think they were consciously making fun of Walmart workers. I think for them the joke was "have a good day at work" and the person accidentally saying "you too" which turned into them having to work. It highlights how privileged they are for sure.
Honestly I think this is rage bait. There's no way their publicist team didn't know it would taken this way, but it's an all press is good press mentality. The anger over this won't last more than a day while thousands more ppl know about their snack brand now. Pretty gross 🤷♀️
I was thinkin about this too. It feels like companies have figured out that nobody cares about insensitive ad campaigns anymore or even controversial ones. Like the Jenner pepsi commercial did nothing bad long term for either brand involved. Like they can piss off anybody and it just doesn't matter.
I don't think it is. I do think that companies have no idea how out of touch with reality they are. This is an extremely common thing, and at one point this would have worked. People would have seen this and related to it. The problem now is that the internet exposes us to millions of lives of the rich and famous, and people are getting tired of seeing rich people on lavish vacations, eating amazing looking food, wearing the best clothing, having the best time, and then having to look at their lives and see poverty, hungry, and suffering.
Reminder that charli is stil 19… and never actually got to live the normal high school experience after she turned 15… and the way lana did it was not “cool and camp” like what are you on?
@@charthesmile yeah but who made charlie famous? i'm sure she didn't want the internet's attention and criticism when she was only 15 also i don't think you should compare the two 😭
i used to work 50-60 hour weeks (20-30 at target and 20-30 at an unpaid internship) and i felt privileged to even afford working at an unpaid internship. like i wouldn’t talk about my jobs with my friends because it felt like bragging. most ppl i grew up with started working at 14 so they could afford clothes and groceries. i cannot imagine what goes through a multi-millionaire’s head to have the audacity to openly mock working ppl by going “oh haha look im doing ur poor person job lol”
Notice how all these influencers are coming out with food brands that taste and look like pre-existing food brands but with different packaging and a higher price?................ But hey! It's cool that they all figured out the extremely complex manufacturing business in such a short time!
No one's claiming that they've invented these things and figured out how to run all of the ins and outs of the business. Most of them at the very least are making the choice of what they want to sell, if not working with the designers and such to tweak the design/taste that they are proud to put their name on.
As a Literal 14 year old working for her siblings just to survive another day this is very disgusting and sad about how out of touch they are...(i work a job that starts at 6 am and ends at 9pm and i rack in atleast 20.50 an hour) and its sad how the justice system works aswell..my parents have been in jail for an entire year ..they have to do 10 YEARS just because of a SPEEDING TICKET
@@divine6867As someone who’s also 14 i think it’s good to get experience but I don’t think it’s good how much this person my age is working and they WILL get burnt out and it’ll take a toll on their overall health which isn’t good in the long run. It’s sad how nothing is done for people who are struggling to get by
@@divine6867 if im being completley honest i rarley go to school if i do manage to attend im worried sick about my siblings at home who dont go to school
once your siblings are old enough to go to school, find ways to ensure they can go. bus stops, etc., make sure to contact the school you go to and the schools your siblings will go yo and tell them about your situation with documentation so they can set up a support system with accommodations for you and your siblings. i agree with the other commenter that education is the most important thing, but if you don't have that option right now, you can get a high school diploma through online tests later in life. i wish you the best in life, and i am sure you will find happiness eventually even if it seems out of sight right now
There were multiple Australian shows that did this! One where a few influential figures had to live homeless and the other on unemployment payments alongside people who actually live like that. It was harrowing to watch, most of them were breaking down crying after a day or two and seriously questioning how anyone could live like that long term. Really shows that you have to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes to actually understand. You cannot make judgements and statements like “just work harder” or “suck it up” unless you’ve actually been in that position. My family was homeless when I was younger and the stuff people said to my parents was vile and disgusting. It makes you realise how majority of people are so privileged they can’t even empathise with situations that are out of peoples control (like the gfc) and instead blame people for “not working hard enough” like that even means anything.
Only part i disagree with in this video is saying that Charli just made dancing videos when she clearly stole and copied many of the dance moves being created by POC creators. A lot of what she has said has also rubbed me the wrong way. Apparently, during Halloween horror nights she was about to get on this ride and stepped away last minute because this fan wanted a picture so the worker for the ride had to stop the ramp/door thing from closing and got her neck and shoulder injured because of it, and told Charli’s tour guide while crying out in pain and the tour guide told Charli 15 more seconds with the fan while the worker's neck was being injured from the ramp.
I've had managers in the past who would tell me they knew what my job was like because they'd worked the position for a shift or two during training. While that's better than most places I've worked, it's still not the same. Doing something for a few hours knowing you're still making a large salary is not the same as 40-50 hours a week, barely getting by, stretching out to the horizon. What's funny is that the better my career gets, and the more money I make, the more pissed I am at the conditions people working retail and service jobs have to endure.
Could you imagine Beyonce spending a day working at a diamond mine to promote her collaboration with Tiffany's. Thank you for the video and your perspective. We do live in a dystopia society/ world. It's all very upsetting and backwards.
I just dont have the energy to criticise those Damelio girls. They're dumb virality famous teens. I understand the hypocrisy and hate rich out of touch celebs so much but I'm just sick of people giving so much attention to them.
@@aaaa-fq1ue it kinda reminds me of the Kardashians if most of their careers blew up/experienced global fame as children. There are so many influencer kids just like them and they're not under the same magnifying glass
Yeah doesn’t this just bring more awareness to their product? Dev wants to talk about tone deaf , but your kardashian analogy is actually spot on bc how many more times do we have to go through tabloid level drama like this to realize it’s only a play to promote the celebrities brand , all this video did was make ppl more aware of this and their brand I didn’t even know they had a brand b4 this lol also bringing the whole Israel/palestine situation in a topic like this is really weird imo LOLL
@@-7_that's why she pointed out it could be a publicity stunt. She said others have done this nonsense...in the video. I get it, sometimes some influencers just do some dumb shit to get attention back on them again and people reacting to them only gets them more attention, but at some point you're going to have to realize they are the issue. Not the people who see them doing stupid shit. Also I can imagine she brought up the issue, just to acknowledge it. Especially in a context where we're talking about rich people acting as people in poverty in the west, which is a better situation to be in than being in Palestine. You said it yourself, it's to promote a brand, it makes sense to acknowledge celebrities being stupid is less of an issue (but still a problem let's be honest) than an active genocide against people. An ethnic cleansing. A massacre.
@@Vesperad0 yeah but she coulda censored the brand…other ytbers do that LOLL all she did was spread more awareness of their brand 😂😂😂 the more u respond to all my comments the more it’s obvious u have no life experience
Austin Mcbroom and Catherine got hate for this same thing a year or two ago and they were helping out a small business so idk how they would think it’s okay to work in the largest employer in the us and think no one was going to have a problem with it
I think the only celebrity that can get away with this type of stuff in the eyes of the public is Snoop Dog. With good reason, he’s just doing his side quests😂
Lana didn't do that to promote anything, she was at the restaurant and the employees gifted her the uniform so she was having fun with them and serving some tables, singing to customers who are not her fan base, she didn't plan it, nor did she post it, the employees posted it. She's still in her BS era with the ''we had nothing growing up'', but that's unrelated
If celebrities worked standard jobs for charity and donated 100% of those wages, they’d soon realise how little the average worker gets to take home. Imagine their faces seeing that after a full month of work their charity cheque is only $1500 or so
Thank you dev for talking about what we have all been thinking. I bust my ass at my grocery store job so I can afford to teach myself art because I can’t afford to go to art school. I see everything that’s going on in the world and I lose hope for the future.
Not trying to validate what Trisha does but the fast food videos are definitely for asmr role plays. She creates a set, green screens, uses her bedazzled cups in the video, and purchases foods from the business for the role plays. I find the videos really relaxing (even the rude worker ones).
I am very fortunate to have landed a job that pays $18/hour and work 40-45 hours a week. However, I grew up so poor that all my clothes were hand me downs, my food was offbrand “trash” foods, i didn’t get to have anything because we just didn’t have that kind of money. I had to choose between work or school. I wanted to go to school, but i went to work. But i have to pay rent and eat food. I have a very small savings just so i can pay off the loans i got for my trashy ass car to keep running because I can only afford so much and a car is not in my budget at all. This just… feels brutal. It feels like a weird form of bullying. “haha look ag me. A walmart employee. Lmao. Anyways imma drive off in my hundred thousand dollar car and never step foot in a walmart again cause i only shop at high end grocery stores”
Trisha is 100% different shes making ASMR videos, she is not mocking workers thats just ASMR people do roleplays lol ALSO ive been listening to nothing but queef jerky on my hour drive to and from work for that past week btw LOL love it *edit for spelling
Exactly. Also, Trisha is SO nice to the workers that I think her videos are actually beneficial. People with social anxiety around ordering food benefit from that content…pretending to work there for clout does nothing for anyone.
I think it was a joke when you said sbs only plays ed sheeran, but as someone who works at one I can say that recently there has been an entire playlist of just ed sheeran songs. They change out the playlists from month to month, so when I heard like 3 ed sheeran songs in a row (i think in september?) I made a joke that they must have made an ed sheeran playlist just to piss me off... and then I checked what was playing...
Do these celebs not realize that they can simply...post their promotions? Just share a post about it?? And it'd probably make just as much revenue????? Or just donate your own money to the charity?????????
It's the backlash they need to stay relevant, cause they lack talent in any aspect. Aside from their looks, they're mid, at best. Even now as all the content comes out about their tomfoolery, they still won with the attention. Ngl, the heartfelt speech at the near of your video hits home!!!! Stay blessed out here y'all!
I wouldn’t say they lack talent,I don’t know about Dixie but ironically Charlie damelio can actually dance and has danced in some shows and stuff. The problem is their going the lazy route and instead of trusting their skills to get fame they do stupid stuff like this.
David Letterman is actually that dude, though. One of my favorite stories about dave is he was a C student at Ball State U so he started up a scholarship program for the communications dept "for the C students of the world"
i work at sbux and your damn right saying that the company doesn’t look out for the employees best interests. i have had open availability for the entirety of working here, and i recently had to get a second job to actually be able to support myself because sbux doesn’t have the hours to give me
It’s frustrating to watch this while I work from 6am to 9pm and still don’t have any saving, might lose my apartment and probably won’t get to go to college, all while dixi cries over working
for once I want a celebrity to go undercover and get an actual job at one of these places and see how horribly they get treated when no one knows who they are. they have the financial stability and platform to do that but instead they just do these cutesy little "I bagged groceries for an hour while people filmed me! uwu ...Also the brand is paying me to do this and has to approve everything I say, and I want you to shop for my products here, so I only say the best nicest things about how fun it is to work at Walmart!"
It’s just weird if it was rage baiting bc now a lot more people aren’t gonna want to buy their popcorn anymore bc of this instead of just advertising to her fans and the average person walking past their bag in walmart. They really didn’t think at all or thought her hype was still big enough to get away with it
No one should ever be starving in this world, it’s unfortunate how much wealth and fortune these social media stars get when people struggle so much just tryna work 9-5
the damilios PR team is so trash. literally anyone normal could have told them that cosplaying as working class people would absolutely blow up in their faces
re: the lady gaga thing, I NEVER trust a celebrity or rich person starting their own charity. it’s a massive tax break for them. “oh they’re helping fund kids w cancer” guess what if you paid your taxes and those taxes were used for universal healthcare there wouldn’t b any debt for families of kids w cancer….it’s just a way for rich ppl to feel good while skirting their responsibility to pay taxes and keep their wealth and status quo.
What bothers me is that these girls should also be working the 9-5 life, we don’t need them rubbing it in our face that they’re rich. Never mess with retail workers, we are a different type of breed of people.
This makes me so mad as a former W employee who saw and experienced more than enough (and had colleagues who were struggling/suffering daily), like I don't want to get into it but just WOW. How insensitive and stupid. It's so rude
If having the income of a full-time $15/hr job is "barely surviving", WTF do you call those of us literally trapped in a $500-$1k/MONTH income, fighting to actually survive our multiple chronic &/or terminal illnesses while being forced to get one or more jobs to pay for ONLY EXISTING. Then when I had to get 3 freelance jobs, I had 80% of that income taken out in my disability & food card! They expect us to work jobs we only get 20% or less of the income from, and be able to exist?? There's tons of ppl fighting for the rights of convicted prisoners to get paid MORE than they already are for any jobs they may work, while they are guaranteed healthcare, 3 meals a day, clothes, a bed, shelter, power, TV, etc. Paid for to the tune of an avg $36k per prisoner per year! But taxpayers complain vastly more that those of us on $10-$12k/year income are all mooching off the system, while prisoners cost 3x more! It's more & more clear every day how invisible we are... 😮💨
dev you are VERY right to say that we already live in a dystopian society. mankind has gone through eras, and this is our final one. i like to think we peaked when ‘Stero Love’ came out in 2010, but it was probably a really long time ago. from here on out, we are going to be seeing the downfall of mankind. humans weren’t built to keep up with the speed that technology is advancing, and one day it’s going to consume us completely. everything about our reality is dystopian. we have access to all the information in the entire world on our pockets. we have the weapons to k*ll thousands of people instantly and the technology for it to be broadcasted all over the world. if you look at AI, technology advanced so much to the point where it has a mind of its own, and it’s just the beginning. the world around us is dying, glaciers are melting, forests are burning, cities are flooding. we have the money and technology to do something about it, but the people with the money don’t care. all we can do is find our own happiness.
i liked charli but she also did the renegade dance which shes famous for & didn't credit the creator of the dance. But after she got called out she started tagging her..
i think the thing that makes it worse is that lady gaga and ed actually worked a shift while charli and dixie just put on a vest and pranced around. they didn’t even put time in while the other celebs actually worked. and this isn’t me saying the other celebs are right but the girls are def worse imo.
My thoughts on Lady Gaga working at Starbucks is maybe she was working there so more people would come and buy the drinks. I’m not sure but it was just a thought I had but like maybe since the drink gave so little back to her charity she wanted to be at the Starbucks promoting the drink so more people would buy it but obviously still wouldn’t get much money
It’s so funny that they find it to be a cute little thing meanwhile today I had to make 60 avocados worth of guacamole while on the verge of throwing up because I couldn’t call out bc I can’t afford to
WAIT THE BE HAPPY POPCORN IS THEIRS??? no one buys them, i do ON stocking at walmart and other shifts keep bringing me batches of em out all for me to bring it back EVERYDAY
Dont get me started on the twitter buyout because when I found out that the James Webb telescope - which is giving us images of just like 300-400 million years after the big bang - cost less than a quarter of what twitter was purchased at.
My friend makes 6 figures did everything right and still is not able to save enough money to buy a home. You can work 3 jobs and it’s still not enough if you have kids. Im a single working mother taking care of my autistic child on my own and when cooking was no longer enough to make money I had to resort to web cam modeling. People tell me I’m a bad mother for it but what they don’t know is it take 2 million dollars to raise a child with autism so buy the time he’s 18 2million would have been spent on him which is worth every penny but just gose to show capitalisms glory days are over and done with.
Ya know I wouldn’t mind this as much if they would fully commit to it. Can you imagine if they had to work there for 2 full weeks, getting paid the wage the other workers make, then live off only the money that they made? I would watch that for sure
A reality show...where we force rich and out of touch people to live like everyone else...but for a full year perhaps? That sounds fun, I can only imagine the crying and anger that we are forced to push down or else we're called "weak and sensitive". Talk about pulling yourself up by the bootstraps, first they'll have to walk in our boots and realize the chains they've tied around our ankles. They walk without gravity, while we can't even take a step forward. Other people around the world don't even have boots to speak of, metaphorical and not.
Hey dev!! I love your channel, but I just want to inform you that Trisha’s case is different. She’s doing ASMR roleplay, that’s fairly common in the community.
My questions: do they take away a shift from someone who needed it, and why choose to do these stunts at a franchise? Why not pick a mom & pop location? This way, at the very least, it'll bring in some extra revenue.
They probably didn't take a shift away because they weren't actually working they were just taking pictures. And I'm just guessing but their chips were probably Walmart exclusive.
a few days ago while conversing with the receipt checking person at Walmart about staying warm in the bad weather, he began to ramble about how his fellow employees who were immigrants would struggle because they barely survive paycheck to paycheck, and that everyone in the store made 15 an hour, no less no more and was struggling. he also told me that their walmart made 27 million last year..
Hate to be That Person, but...who are they? I swear celebrities are just magically appearing out of thin air nowadays. To quote Abraham Simpson, "I used to be with ‘it’, but then they changed what ‘it’ was. Now what I’m with isn’t ‘it’ anymore and what’s ‘it’ seems weird and scary. It’ll happen to you!"
