Really quick piece of advice for you as you're planning your trip to Walt Disney World, your phone is REALLY important. You have to use this thing for so much, that some people actually complain about how much you have to use it. I for one love that literally everything I need when I go to Disney World is right here, but there is one down fall to needing your phone so much throughout your day at Disney, and that is battery. How do you keep this thing charged? Well, a lot of people will tell you the best option is this... The FuelRod. I however, will tell you that this is not the best option, and I would much prefer anyone of Anker's portable chargers. That's the story this week!
Welcome back to the bear's den! Ok FuelRod vs Literally any other Anker portable charger. Let's give FuelRod good that it's due, and talk about why this might be the better option, luckily there's only one, which will keep this part short.
You can swap them out for free at any of the parks
The best thing about the FuelRod is the ability to purchase a two pack for $34.99 on Amazon, bring them to Disney World with you, and then when this runs out of charge during the day, you can literally take it to one of the FuelRod stations, drop it in, and get a fully charged one for free.
Unfortunately, the peace of mind that you get from this one aspect, just is not enough to overcome everything else bad about the FuelRod and good about the Anker portable chargers for me. So let's get into why the Fuel Rod is not the best option, and pretty much any Anker portable charger is.
Charging Capacity
When you're talking about portable chargers for your phone, you need to consider the Charging Capacity, or Milliamp Hours.
On average to charge your smartphone once from a portable charger you need 5000 Milliamp hours. The FuelRod has just above half of that at 2600 Milliamp Hours, which means that to get back to one hundred percent you would need start charging your phone from 50% of its battery. If your batter is at 5% or lower, you'll only be able to get it back up to about 50% charge.
Compared to The Anker 313 Powerbank, which has a capacity of ten thousand milliamp hours which means that you can get a charge from 0 to 100% 1.5 to 2 times for your phone, or close to 1 full charge for 2 devices.
Pricing
Currently you can buy a FuelRod in Walt Disney World for thirty dollars for one. You can also find FuelRods in a pack of two for thirty four-ish dollars on Amazon. But let's think back to the capacity, and say that we did get the two pack from Amazon, that is about seventeen dollars for half a charge on your phone.
In comparison, the anker 313 gets me one and a half, and even up to two charges for the whopping price of twenty one bucks. For another three bucks you can buy the Anker 321 which will give you at least one full charge and is close to the size of a FuelRod. This means three to four charges from a single of a single device. If we're talking about pricing in terms of value... Anker has FuelRod beat by a long shot.
Swapping is not actually that good
At the end of the day those who believe fuelrod is better will always have the argument that they can swap their fuelrod out even when it runs out of charge.
But there is one point the this argument, that I think beats it every time. With an Anker portable charger I have to remember to plug in my that charger at night when I am just going to bed. With a fuelrod you have run to a swap station when the Fuelrod runs out. Even if you're wasting 5 to 10 minutes doing this, that is still 5 to 10 minutes that you have lost, at Disney World.

Thanks! I was on the fence as to whether or not to buy the fuel rods on Amazon or use an external battery that we have at home. My external battery at home is like 35 MAH so we will just go with that!

I have always used an Anker charger and they are a blessing. Also thanks for your recommendation on the park sling bag you did in a video last year. It was the most convenient way to carry the necessary items in the parks!

Love my Anker chargers, but fuel rod as an emergency backup in the parks when you forget to charge or don’t have enough time to get a full charge seems like a must have.

You can still charge a fuelRod if you needed to

I love Anker products, been a fan for many years. I have a few battery packs. They are so heavy! Matter of fact the Anker 10k is almost 8oz and the 20k is 12oz. I feel like I am weighing myself down with a battery pack. The one I use is 7.5oz and the fuel rod 2.5oz. I feel this is just piece of mind. Once you download the app for the locations map you are bound to run into a charging station. I see your point but my selling point is weight with the convenience of swapping. I should add my back hurts over time in general. When I go to WDW, I’m looking 5-10 days. Carrying a bunch of things with me as you do to I bet. If I can lighten the load I would get the fuel rod.

I don't love this video. I like Anker chargers and I like Fuelrods. The main thing I like about Fuelrods is I don't have to worry about it getting damaged. If my kid drops it, if I drop it, if it gets left in a hot car all day, I can swap it out and get a new one. Also the Fuelrod can be swapped out at hundreds of locations nation wide. Anker will sell you a quality product but if something happens to it, its time to buy a new one.

I always wondered the quality of the fuel rods. Because batteries get worse overtime. How often do they track their charge capacity. Would bite to swap out a new one for one on its last limb.

That’s a great question, I am actually not sure when they decide to pull them out of circulation, but the baker charger I have and showed in the video is almost 7 years old, and going string still. Fuel rods you can just swap them at the park for free. Your family members and friends can use it and not have to worry about the battery depleting . You can’t do that with the anker… this is obviously a sponsored video especially when he is telling us to use his code at check out.

@mathiasking-ex1up…. This is not a sponsored video at all, but appreciate that feel like it is, means I really am passionate in what I believe, which I am! I get that totally, you can swap them out and I actually talk about that in the video. What I don’t love is that there are other options for the same price that I can use for 2 or 3 charges, but you can’t even get half a charge in the fuel rod. That means you are wasting time looking for a station. Appreciate the perspective and for sharing here! Thanks for watching 🏴‍☠️❤️🙏
