Really quick piece of advice for you as you're planning your trip to Walt Disney World, your phone is REALLY important. You have to use this thing for so much, that some people actually complain about how much you have to use it. I for one love that literally everything I need when I go to Disney World is right here, but there is one down fall to needing your phone so much throughout your day at Disney, and that is battery. How do you keep this thing charged? Well, a lot of people will tell you the best option is this... The FuelRod. I however, will tell you that this is not the best option, and I would much prefer anyone of Anker's portable chargers. That's the story this week!
Welcome back to the bear's den! Ok FuelRod vs Literally any other Anker portable charger. Let's give FuelRod good that it's due, and talk about why this might be the better option, luckily there's only one, which will keep this part short.
You can swap them out for free at any of the parks
The best thing about the FuelRod is the ability to purchase a two pack for $34.99 on Amazon, bring them to Disney World with you, and then when this runs out of charge during the day, you can literally take it to one of the FuelRod stations, drop it in, and get a fully charged one for free.
Unfortunately, the peace of mind that you get from this one aspect, just is not enough to overcome everything else bad about the FuelRod and good about the Anker portable chargers for me. So let's get into why the Fuel Rod is not the best option, and pretty much any Anker portable charger is.
Charging Capacity
When you're talking about portable chargers for your phone, you need to consider the Charging Capacity, or Milliamp Hours.
On average to charge your smartphone once from a portable charger you need 5000 Milliamp hours. The FuelRod has just above half of that at 2600 Milliamp Hours, which means that to get back to one hundred percent you would need start charging your phone from 50% of its battery. If your batter is at 5% or lower, you'll only be able to get it back up to about 50% charge.
Compared to The Anker 313 Powerbank, which has a capacity of ten thousand milliamp hours which means that you can get a charge from 0 to 100% 1.5 to 2 times for your phone, or close to 1 full charge for 2 devices.
Pricing
Currently you can buy a FuelRod in Walt Disney World for thirty dollars for one. You can also find FuelRods in a pack of two for thirty four-ish dollars on Amazon. But let's think back to the capacity, and say that we did get the two pack from Amazon, that is about seventeen dollars for half a charge on your phone.
In comparison, the anker 313 gets me one and a half, and even up to two charges for the whopping price of twenty one bucks. For another three bucks you can buy the Anker 321 which will give you at least one full charge and is close to the size of a FuelRod. This means three to four charges from a single of a single device. If we're talking about pricing in terms of value... Anker has FuelRod beat by a long shot.
Swapping is not actually that good
At the end of the day those who believe fuelrod is better will always have the argument that they can swap their fuelrod out even when it runs out of charge.
But there is one point the this argument, that I think beats it every time. With an Anker portable charger I have to remember to plug in my that charger at night when I am just going to bed. With a fuelrod you have run to a swap station when the Fuelrod runs out. Even if you're wasting 5 to 10 minutes doing this, that is still 5 to 10 minutes that you have lost, at Disney World.
