@@markplott4820Safest from the standpoint of crash tests, not safest from the standpoint of getting in the fewest crashes. Protecting you *in* a crash is not the same as protecting you *from* a crash. Tesla drivers actually have the highest accidents of any auto brand. Tesla is working on getting FSD to run in the background and not let you do anything stupid, like take a corner too fast or drive into something, or accidentally put it in drive instead of reverse, but they haven't rolled that out yet. When they do, they may very well go from being in the most crashes to being in the fewest, but for now Tesla's accident statistics actually disprove your point.

They should go on the track then or face the criminal offence. Sorry I do not understand this leniency towards drivers. In the UK motorbike riders are prosecuted often but drivers not so much. Elon started this stupid trend of pointless over the top acceleration figures which impresses mostly idiots and those are the last people that should have an access to it. But he will give them a mandatory introduction to his beta "self driving" instead. The guy is a moron.

@@10secondsruleyou can't switch off TC and ESP in the Teslas though(*), and their implementation is really good. Heck, even the Bolt has 200+ HP - more than the FWD setup can handle at low speed, but it does mean it can overtake safely in more situations. Same with our Model S and Y (both non-performance models, but plenty quick) - knowing I have enough power and dependable ESP means being able to get into dense traffic from a side road much easier and safer than the underpowered Toyota that enters traffic anyway causing hard braking behind it. I'd also argue that the acceleration figures "trend" has been here for almost as long as modern cars have existed, but to make a point that EVs aren't "boring" Tesla chose to give their family cars sports car performance. Porsche did the same when they launched the Cayenne ten years prior to the MS becoming available, so I call BS on that claim. *: Well, it's possible to switch off all assistance, but you have to enter "secret" modes and ignore warnings about not using them on public roads.

But why do the Teslas with similar performance have not that issue? Evidently the car has serious issues regarding handling.

@@user-hq8lb1yv9k Tesla doesn't let you switch off ESP and traction control... the Xiaomi letting its tail loose looks like TC/ESP is completely switched off. Can't say if it has a handling issue, as what was shown looked more like driver error. Of course it could be that it *also* likes to "surprise" drivers (IIRC at least the older Porsche 911s are know for snap oversteer), but until some experienced drivers deliver their verdicts I'm leaning towards driver error.

Source: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PJW20GddEM4.html For some unskilled buyers, since the price of SU7 is not that expensive, many test drivers may never drive a car with more than 500 hp in their life before, if they disabled ESC and TC, this may lead to a crash with wrong hands. If I remember correctly, that car model has multiple driving modes. If the driver sticks with comfort mode and sport mode, he won't get into problem like tail spin. But if the driver switches to something like a custom mode (don't remember the name), he can do whatever he wants with the car including tail spin. That can be fun in a race track with no other car. But that can be very dangerous on a street with many cars around. The bottom line is those drivers are most likely idiots.

love the channel, Sam. just want to add a few things, to put things in perspective. 1. the Su7 has 3 trims, but most show cars are from the 4 base colors, with blue the most numerous. 2. most crashes are probably not from influencers but test drivers. my wife and I did the test drive already and we had only about 30 min (on a weekday) because there were too many ppl trying to get their hands on this car. my wife never drove such a fast car and was very cautious, but I suspect a lot of ppl weren't respctful enough of its power. there are about 5 test cars where I test drove so I guess there are hundreds of them on the road. 3. a lot of ppl are scrutinizing this car and even a small "mishap" could go viral, such as a screw on the ground that looked like it might had fallen from the car. so yeah the SU7 is a fast car and the acceleration literally made my wife sick. you do need to be careful handling that much power.

Apparently the SU7 has a “drifting mode”. Perhaps the crashes are due to inexperienced drivers trying to “drift”. Xiaomi should make it possible to “lock away” this mode so that no one can use it unless they are authorised by the owner to use the drifting mode.

we have a good deal of accidents here with Ferraris and Porsches just because their drivers did not know how to drive responsible when having so much power under their foot. I say nothing wrong with a high powered vehicle. The issue is with a "low power" driver.

It's a smart phone makers first ever car. Apple tried to make a car too but never got to the last stage and they have nearly unlimited money. Xiaomi probably needs to add some type of beginner mode setting where the speed and acceleration are set to the lowest levels for test drivers. Drivers of ICE cars are not used to the level of acceleration available in EV's.

I've seen something like this before. Most people today have never driven a RWD car. It's not the tc, it's that people aren't used to RWD and power. My first car was a 318 v8 Dart. Then a 396 Chevelle SS with mods. I now drive a Subaru BRZ/FRS; when I shopped for the car, I saw endless ones wrecked on the front fender the same way. It's got handling compared to >$100,000 cars, super nimble and balanced, which inspires confidence and fun. In turn (pun) people think they can floor it on a corner and drift like a pro.... and quickly back off and get snap oversteer. They've watched more videos than they've driven. The BRZ/FRS also has a Torsen differential, that makes it really fun to drive... but snappy. And worse, to get more mpg AND to make it more fun, they came with hard Prius tires... very slippery. I'm going to say the Xiamomi needs to moderate the power to the outside wheel when turning (or maybe it's just one?) and have an ECO mode that changes the acceleration curve on corners. Not traction control - which will fight the rear stepping out, but then make snap recovery tricky if it happens. Do a search for BRZ/FRS and junk yard. They'll all be wrecked on one of the front fenders, like these Xiaomis. I saw the thumbnail and thought "ah, quality control" but after seeing the video and damage I'm thinking "is that an EV version of my car?".

If you have no idea how to handle a 650 hp car, don't effin' get or drive one! These things are weapons and should be treated as such! I almost crashed an Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio because the rear tires slipped in the rain, but I knew how to get the car back under control. If you don't have enough experience with a powerful car and driving situation at the edge of control, take it easy and book some time on the racetrack or at a safety training course!
@1InVader1

If it's the self-driving acting up, it's a software recall, but more then likely it's just a bunch of inexperienced drivers. This is probably going to be my first high performance car too, and the first thing I'm going to do with it is attend an advanced driving and car control course, then probably also a racing course. Imo attending this kind of course should be mandatory for non-FWD cars over 400HP (a new "performance" class on the license).

Hi Sam, great that you report about the SU7. Regarding quality problems, that might be possible as it is the first car by Xiaomi, however, most reports on chin media are rather very positive, there is huge attention and the competition (most in deep water) seem to be very afraid and ready to explore any neg aspects. Again, it might be possible but I still do not see much evidence in this regard...Axel PS I'll keep you posted on the issue.

I did a test drive in the Zeekr 007 AWD (not performance) a couple of weeks ago. I floored it while in sports mode, the rear passengers screamed! I was extremely careful and only took the car from 30 to 60km /h. The car can do 0 - 100 km/h within 3.5 seconds. If I was driving it like a maniac without caution, I would have easily crashed it. The Xiaomi CEO himself took the car on a 15 hour road trip. So I have my doubts as to the traction condition issues you mentioned.

I’d say the car was SO damn good it means the weak link is tyres, road conditions, AND, the human inside. It’s possible the car grips and accelerates really well but unlike more traditional vehicles - the edge of traction perhaps is unforgiving - maybe this car gives no clue the driver has reached the edge of its grip on the road. Sports cars traditionally are built to be lightweight and agile. EVs are different in that they are heavy, but with the ability to put out full torque from standstill.

I've prohibited my son from driving the electric vehicle with the red plate because it's undeniably faster than many high-performance cars. Entering full auto-driving mode requires thorough familiarity with the vehicle, as it could potentially be a tactic by competitors to tarnish its reputation. Until further investigation, scepticism remains warranted; sometimes, things seem too good to be true. However, I had assumed the company conducted ample test drives before the launch. The significant number of test drive crashes shortly after the launch seems too much of a coincidence.
@edwardlee8044

The required modifications will undoubtedly be implemented prior to the launch to guarantee the product aligns with the predetermined criteria. The company acknowledges the possible repercussions on its image if any complications surface. Neglecting these matters could significantly affect their upcoming ventures within the automotive sector. The company's meticulous attention to detail is apparent, standing in contrast to the regrettable incidents linked to Boeing's aircraft launches. The Chinese company exhibits a cautious demeanor in their deliberative procedures.
