The whole Death being in Dracula's shadow thing reminds me of Kid Icarus Uprising. Palutena asks Thanatos, god of the dead, why Medusa rules over the Underworld and not him, considering it is the land of the dead. And Thanatos says that he has "no interest climbing the corporate ladder."

Interestingly, there's another huge demon boss named "The Forgotten One" in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow resurrection. while they don't look identical, both contain huge horns, but perhaps what is even more interesting is the fact that the one who summoned the forgotten one in lord of shadow is none other than (drumroll) the Bernhard family! Yep! the same one that eventually leads to the first Dracula which you kill in laments of innocence. AND, the forgotten one is sealed away before 1047 AD in the Bernhard castle, which would make sense as lament of innocence takes place in 1094 AD. Supposedly it was so strong it surpassed Satan itself, so it's sealing was a necessity.

The enormous one is a gigantic reference to the beasts fate in the deepest circle of hell where he is tormented for all eternity, as seen in Dante Alligheris Divine Comedy.

I imagine the forgoten One has infinite regenerative capabilities, and the fact that you can come back and be able to hurt him again, is because he is starting to regenerate one more. Maybe that is why you found him wih half body, which sounds like he was´nt at full potential.

Small note, rating boards don't play games. The developers send in descriptions or footage of what they consider the "worst" depictions of language, violence, nudity, and so on.

Lament of Innocence is the one other CASTLEVANIA game where the Game Over screens change based on in-game actions. In this game, when the player is killed by a specific boss, instead of hearing the same grim “Game Over” quote, a different quote will be played based on who defeated the player character. And there are three playable characters! (All can be seen in this video, so Spoiler alert!)

But the real life question is: How in the heck did Dracula manage to win Death Itself as an ally?! Even in Lament Of Inoccence Death claims that that the whip SHOULDN'T work against him because he's still a holy spirit but León replies that the whip works against servants of dracula regardless of what they are.

Nobody going to comment the fact that the "Forgotten One" looks just like the Cyber-Demon from Doom? Even missing his Right Arm, the one that would have a Rocket Launcher? That was surgically installed via UAC tech, making him "Man Made?" When you get down to it; the "Forgotten One" might be a Doom easter Egg in Castlevania. Makes sense, that Death and Dracula would be able to resurrect but not necessarily control demons.

I still remember when i first met the Forgotten one. It was trully a pain in the ass to beat and it was a very disgusting one with all his attacks. When i used Joachim, i used the lock on button and use the slashing sword mode throwing not inmediatly all the swords, so i could do combo and extra damage. This boss is truly a nightmare.

I think double Cleric's Rings would get you the immunity? That might just be how Curse of Darkness is, though. I find it more interesting to ignore the Forgotten One's description and take its name as completely literal. That is to say, I like to think that it was made by Walter himself, but instead of being torn up it simply was never finished because he got bored with the project and locked it up, leaving the key in the castle as a goof.

You mentioned Beelzebub, but he reminded me more of Adramelech from Circle of the Moon. A terrifying demon creature monster thing that is as powerful as it is restrained, it fights you even using its saliva.

Damn, I miss when difficulty options went beyond just messing with variables... or at least, I haven't played a game like that in a while ;) I know it's nothing spectacular, but I've always wanted to play this game, especially for the music. I love those optional bosses that are out of the way and never explained. You beat them, it all goes quiet and you're left wondering "What the hell was that?!"

I just realized that some of the buildup dialogue to the Forgotten One, is taken straight from the Boss Analysis 38 video.

There's been a lot of headcanon about Death including the animated series, but the one that made the most sense to me is simply desiring a Dark Lord who keeps his 'business' (ie: mortal death rates) up. Death has twice rejected other vampire lords (Walter and Count Brauner) for not being bloodthirsty enough. None of them quite have Vlad's style and flair. While Beelzebub creeped me out too, the success of the animated series makes it clear that most CV fans (probably won't be many new ones without any new games) are old enough to handle M-rated gore (this game also has a VERY scantily-clad Succubus). Being a Belmont diminishes the fear factor of Dracula's legions but enough gore will remind you of how terrifying all this really is, that only a Belmont (or some other similarly-empowered hero) has the courage to handle it and not lose their lunch (and their life).

I have a feeling when madness project nexus releases, hes project getsalt is going to be one of these.

The Forgotten One is kinda similar to the ancient bioweapon from Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, it's rotting and has a beam attack from the mouth as well.

0:26 [Major PLOT spoilers for Lament of Innocence, kinda] I'm fairly certain it's because Walter (a dude who wasn't Dracula), before becoming a vampire, obtained The Crimson Stone which gave him the power to control death. Walter then learned the stone consumed the souls of other vampires, and he harnessed that in order to empower himself with the help of Death. Dracula then came in, killed Walter and obtained the stone for himself, implying that Death unconditionally pledges allegiance to whomever owns the Crimson Stone.

I have a little head cannon about the Forgotten One. His game data says he's man made, so maybe someone created him to take out Walter, who found out about it and locked it away before it could be used against him. And after several failed attempts to kill it, he just left it hanging in his dungeon and sealed the door so it couldn't get out. And maybe its creator somehow made him immortal, but the final stage of the fight severs his spine, so his mind is still functioning, but it can't move or even feel its body, and he's essentially in an endless coma. Just a theory, but given what little information we have on it, it's the best theory I can think of.

I used to wonder the same thing about Death: why does it always play second fiddle to Dracula? There have been 3 official explanations so far: 1. Lament of Innocence: whoever holds the Crimson Stone attains immortality/vampirism, thereby "conquering" Death. Simple but kinda boring. 2. Aria and Dawn of Sorrow: Dracula isn't just a vampire, he is the literal embodiment of Chaos, a primordial force of the universe and the polar opposite of God. Death simply can't match the power of Chaos and so he becomes its servant. 3. Netflix series (and my personal favorite): Death is a powerful entity, presumably even more so than Dracula since it has existed since the dawn of life, but because he is a spirit, and in his own words "a function of the world", he cannot directly influence world events. Death feeds on the souls of the deceased but he cannot raise armies or wage wars of a global scale; however, Dracula can do all that. Death views Dracula as nothing more than a tool to satiate his hunger.

They are TANKY BACKLINERS, apart of how the games considers them are "medium bosses" so they are tough enemies AND on Boss Rush type of levels they can reach a STACK OF 3!!!. You know, I seem to recall a K-A game having a notable boss that had Maggot mooks turning him into a case of That One Boss. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-r08Mxb76XEA.htmlh45m4s ....ah yeah. And yes, I know I'm linking to somebody else streaming my balance patch, but the irony is that Thraxx would not be that difficult in base game if the Maggot mooks didn't keep confounding the player. Of course, that IS part of the fight's characteristics, but what I was able to do was tone down Thraxx's Acid Rain use so that it's still a stall-buster, but NOT the unfair killer it once was. The Maggots couldn't inflict Poison in base SoE but my patch also nerfed their Hit values particularly against the computer-controlled character to make sure the Poison infliction would simply be a threat against a player not mindful of it. Oh yeah, and I am sure you know my story with maggots in general at this point, thanks to how I've had to deal with a house that had a maggot-filled toilet before. Yeah, funny story considering what you're covering about a given phase of a boss that also has can get grating on headphone usage thanks to all the repeated heartbeats. Oh, and what I can gather? Yeah, so much for Leon killing an entire time of day like he vowed to do. I will say, though, that I will agree on any assessment about Grim Reaper being a Magnificent Baddie in this continuity thanks partially to his loyalty to Drac. Always fun those sorts of aspects are.
