Don't worry about the commenters carrying on about your clothes. There are an amount of people that just feel they have to say something to be noticed or sound superior and I believe a lot of it comes because they do not understand the topic coverd or have anything useful and productive to add. The amount of whining I get over not wearing gloves or other safety crap is unreal and shows how many people think stating the obvious makes them sound clever. same with people crapping on about environmental issues. Wouldnt have a clue in reality but say what they have heard before so they fell like they will be gaining social acceptance. Love your ideas with the engine. When I first came across you channel a few vids back and you explained your Idea, I thought to myself, this guy is going to come up with something really revoloutionary that will leave all the mainstream manufacturers for dead. I believe that even more now. you have the right personality in my opinion. reserved, thoughtful and calm. I also think you will be honest and truthful in what ever you achieve. You obviously have the knowledge and intelligence so I think you will come up with something good. I can see a new engine named after you which will be the cutting edge design all others follow.

I had an idea bouncing around for a few years that is a variation of your second piston exhaust valve. If Mr. Koenigsegg would part with a component or two from his FreeValve system you may be able to achieve exhaust control without the mechanical additions. Another thought was to make your own sound wave to compliment the expansion chamber's return wave. Material science has come up with some interesting high heat resistant solutions for industry. I'm sorry I haven't researched beyond cranking up a stereo and feeling the volume blow by. One last thought in support of an actual piston, I'd clocked 90° from where you showed it there's potential to stuff the charge back where it belongs. That whole thinking thing can sure become a bit crazy with small engines, wild prototypes can usually be affordable and very interesting. Nice to see you have a plan. Take care, cheers.

Sounds like this is going to be awesome! Probably goes without saying but I'm happy to help out with whatever I can. People actually complained about what you wear?? Wth is wrong with it, and even if there was something wrong with it why would they care, it's not like you're running a fashion channel here.. I just turned 40 and if most of my clothes that I've had since the mid 90s hadn't fallen apart over the years I'd be dressing exactly like that :) I hate buying new clothes because they're all so tight these days, even the so called loose fit ones make me feel like I'm wearing a straight jacket and yoga pants and I have to fold my feet to get into them in the first place. Tight clothes are the worst, just can't get comfortable in them. Back then they knew how to size clothes! In the garage I usually have my sweatpants and lumber shirt combo nowadays to save what little proper clothes I have left from back then ;)

Just amazes me with all this man has to offer with his insights that anyone would even notice what he wears. I was laughing listening to him thinking anyone would be so petty and missing what the man has to offer the only thing they can think about is his clothes? Geez there are some Clowns out there. Maybe he should wear a 3 Pice suit while working on engines and doing things in the garage? I mean that would be so much more appropriate wouldn't it? Idiots.

You sound like me. I'd go shopping and buy a pair of pants... 2 pair in black, 2 pair in gray, 2 pair in navy or whatever they had. Jeans, try them on, find the right size, 6 pairs as I wear them a lot. Same for Shoes, find some that are comfy and buy a couple of pair in each color. 4 pair of sandshoes. Shirts etc. Stack of Socks, jocks and variety of T shirts, and a new suit. Done! And I could be in an out the shopping centre in under an hour with a couple of years worth of clothes at least. Then I got married. Haven't bought myself a stitch of clothing in 20 years but I have enough for 10 men. The Mrs constantly harps I have too many clothes and to throw some out. I say yeah, I got to stop going to the shops and buying them all the time and wasting money because I have so many I can't fit them in the wardrobe! For some inexplicable reason she gets annoyed at me for saying that! Still comes home with more clothes for me every month though! If She bought nothing ever again and neither did I other than Socks and Jocks, I could live to 150 years old and still not run out of things to wear!

Like the exhaust valve idea. Large diesel engines use poppet valves in the head. Makes it possible to flow bottom-up. They use turbos, not crank, to get the air flowing through the cylinder.

NGK offers 8mm. plugs. Make your new pipes a slip fit over the headers so you have adjustability of tuned length. Cut the headers back as you adjust, so there is no excess header inside the divergent cone. Start long and adjust shorter .250" at a time as the RPM increases. You'll know when it's too short, because the engine will struggle to accelerate on load. Good luck.

The front of the pipe needs a short straight section that can be slotted. The header slides inside ( slip fit ) and a heavy duty hydraulic gear clamp seals it. The ID of the header should have a gradual taper on the end to aid smooth flow inside the pipe.

Now you've uploaded your latest video I'm posting this again: Mr 2STROKE STUFFING, I have had the good fortune to watch nearly all of your videos (bar about 20) since I am laid up with broken ribs. Half the pleasure in watching them is reading other peoples comments, and aside from that the effort you put into replying to them (no easy task). You can feel the frustration other RU-vidrs feel, when things don't go right for you. As for the editing, well, what I can say is that it's nice to hear the music fade out in this video (around about 3:35) because we can once again hear a highly tuned 2 stroke running on petrol (gasoline) - which after all, is what 99.9% of us put in our tanks and run our bikes on. You can see the thought that goes into your videos, the trudging through the snow until you finally "hit the buffers" is a great metaphor for the way you felt at the time. I also loved the bit where you're sitting there thinking and the "other you" goes and pours yourself a drink. Hahaha, clever stuff! I reckon you could turn your hand to most things, and you're a bit of a perfectionist too. I mentioned in another video that an informative and educational video like yours, where you actually improve a moped's performance got 10k views, whilst another guy pours sand and grit into his lawnmowers oil filler (causing self-destruction) and gets 1.5 million views. This guy is making money off of RU-vid, and you Alex, on the whole are not. This is what I suggest: When you're finally happy to get back to petrol (gas) as fuel, and your set up is proven to run reliably (on the real road as well as your rolling road [dyno]), then you gather up all your homemade parts and copy them, do a deal with the manufacturers so you get a good price for a minimum order quantity on their parts, put the whole kit and caboodle in a box, then SELL it as a kit. All this hard work deserves reward mate! Stick to the day job as long as you like - you're a kindergarten teacher, and a very good one I imagine, too. I've worked at teaching as well: British English to Spanish speakers. This is where I'd like to add one more comment - and it ain't a criticism as your English is absolutely excellent, but throughout your videos you've pronounced the word "idea" like "ID". The correct pronunciation is the same as we English speakers pronounce "Ikea" - the Swedish ready-to-assemble furniture manufacturers. So, having added my tuppence-ha'penny worth I want you to actually read this, so I'm gonna post it again. Just as soon as the next instalment in your "2 stroke quest for the best" video comes out! I hope that when your kids grow up they share your interest, and you can spend time together imparting all your knowledge to them. (If God forbid, we're not all forced to go around riding electric bikes/scooters/mopeds!). Good luck me old china, Jonnie

140 at the rear wheel from an RD500, is quite achievable. Although it can reduce part lives down to a few hundred kilometers if you wish to keep on the racing upper limit, and inspection tear-downs/rebuilds to being very often if try to get much more power than that.

Contrary to popular belief, I'm very interested in what your doing. If you check Mikuni charts, 32mm carb is suitable for about 50bhp per cylinder (in multi cyl applications) You've probably done the math, area of carb is 804.25sq mm. PWK isn't highest flowing carb but it is way cheaper than a smooth -bore or Kei-Hin CR.
@2STROKESTUFFING
@2STROKESTUFFING 5 лет назад
Thanks, I know. There's a few better options but yeah, money. Yep, a 32mm carb can flow alot more than what my engine can ever produce, but remember the intake isn't always open, and part of the time it is open it's flowing the wrong direction. Then there's the resonance aspect, getting it to work well with the crankcase volume.
@peterjones6945
@peterjones6945 5 лет назад
You've worked out theoretical intake length? I don't remember formula's but seem to remember it's different for piston port/reed valve compared to disc valve motors. 32mm carb will have pretty slow airflow which doesn't atomise fuel very well. Reversion will cause a crazy rich mixture at various rpm, have you thought of reed valve intake as well as rotary valve for high rpm timing?
@2STROKESTUFFING
@2STROKESTUFFING 5 лет назад
With the variator I don't need anything but peak power so a properly timed rotary valve seems likr the way to go. My intake philosophy is simple - as short as possible. A tuned intake would need to be ridiculously long to have any real benefit.
@Jubr123
@Jubr123 5 лет назад
2STROKE STUFFING I could see that the intake lenght could affect a lot when using big carb. As the flow speed is slower on bigger carb, and the intake flow is still changing direction as the intake closes, a longer intake (tuned length) would actually help there. As the flow is changing it way to back on the carb, longer the way to venturi, the smaller is the change to mess with the AFR ratio, and smaller “blowback” from the carb. So in theory, (and usually in real life too) this helps the carb work right, and helps to get more effiency and mixture in the crankcase. And you can make the intake as well slightly smaller diameter than the carb, ofcourse matching the ends to carb and port, to increase the flow speed. And as your engine has pretty small (Read: right sized) crankcase, and it does not have reeds, it will be a lot harder to get big carb/ short intake to work properly. As the mixture and carb flow/ pulse is interrupted badly. But into the 90˚ turned cylinder, it will be gaining advantages. As still, I would maybe not go with the huge 1-window exhaust port, as I go with that myself with good success (But on extremely lower tuning levels) As the extremely wide 2-window (100%?) maybe the way to go, as I see the 3-or 4-window exhaust port not needed/ restricting. I’ve had ran a 75-80% (real) 1-window exhaust port on big bore cylinders, and with different pistons. 1-ring pistons have not taken it too long. 2-ring pistons have survived longer. But the key is in the rev-range= I could rev the 1-ringed much more higher with much more power, with the same ports, pipes etc. As the 2-ring piston is more heavier etc, and has more durability, it maked less power, it revved less, and cracked the whole intake side of the piston off! And that has happened many times. So atleast turning the cylinder 90˚ prevents those things to happen, as you are thinking it of right! 😊 Keep up the good work, and don’t care if people thinks you’re a hiphopper (from your clothes) as you’re a smart guy and great mechanic!
@Jubr123
@Jubr123 5 лет назад
And though also that you know the Athena makes a 50cc “powervalve” racing cylinder for derbi and minarelli engines. That would be interesting too, as it has the exhausta powervalve. Some guys here in Finland is running those cylinders on various bootleg moped racing setups.

I remember in 2006 at sweden, in the classic tt race, I was checking stuff on the pit and on the market place there. One guy selled a new 50cc Honda NS50R racing bikes cylinder. Don’t know the stroke of that engine, but the ports were Huge and very, very high! Seller said it has 17hp out of the box. And said that specialist carve out from that cylinder over 20hp easy. He resists to gave the portmap for me, but if I remember right it had atleast 8-transfer or so? But the sleeve was like full on holes, and had sick port areas.

You should look at the Parilla 100 cc reed valve “IAME comet” Kart racing motor 20,000 rpm wicked power. I also had a McCulloch Barnet racing motor that had a split intake with dual carbs feeding the crank case and one feeding the reed valve with pretty much open exhaust chamber.

Unfortunately, the Bourke engine will always be the most efficient two stroke. Love your design though. But becarefull while drilling up ports, if you lose cylinder pressure (intake exhaust pressure), your engine will die out. You will certainly need intake pressure there, and not lose any exaust pressure also, Because there would be a nasty explosion out of the exaust, or You would even do a pulse jet out of the exaust!
@ronbradshaw7404

I am really happy that you and some other guys, continue to R&D 2 stroke technology cuz, 4 strokes have no chance, against 2 strokes. The most powerfull piston engines in the world are ALL turbo 2 strokes ( marine engines). The complexity, size, weight and, lost ''2 strokes'' of a four stroke engine is ridiculous!... Keep-up the good work! and, try to make em emission friendlier, so the governaments, accept them again :).

Going back to your comment on ceramic coating on the cylinder head, why would you want to retain heat? My understanding is that the more heat drawn out of the motor the better. This is based on Carnot efficiency, the colder the cold temperature is, the more efficient the engine can be. Am I misunderstanding what the cold temperature is?

Man I’m 36 and still dress like you 👍🏻 love your work, you’re a genius. Easily my favourite channel on RU-vid. How much of an impact on overall power does crankcase volume create?
@2STROKESTUFFING
@2STROKESTUFFING 5 лет назад
Thanks! Crankcase volume has to work together with the rest of the setup, but in short: Large volume for good transfer geometry and pipe, small volume for bad geometry and pipe. Reed engines need more primary compression than Rotary valve engines.
@adriandalton82
@adriandalton82 5 лет назад

Use as long as possible connecting rod. This gives more time for burning and changing the gases. The piston moves slower near TDC and BTC. I like to propose to use two exhaust openings. When having two exhausts you have two whirls inside cylinder instead of one. The smaller vortex works faster and the gases change faster and you'll get higher RPM and power. With two exhausts you'll get about 18000 RPM with efficiency. I'm sorry and don't have time to design the openings for you.

The pipe is key on a 2 stroke. FMJ may be at play. Your phone has an app for degree measurement. It is accurate to a tenth of a degree.

we were using port area to time in the early 70,s, , the combustion chamber i cant see working as i made so many different types of head , what i never tried was the combustion chamber in the piston and a flat head, as i said before you need to find all the sae papers on two strokes development , especially gordon blair ,q u b work on port flows , but as over half the power is from the pipe , we made hundreds of pipes

ALAN COLLARD I designed a 14.5:1 head that doesn’t detonated with premium pump gas. Usually anything over 11:1 u better start thinking of adding some octane. My head has 17 different angles. And the degree of the angles makes all the difference

Hey, would it be technically possible to run a rotary exhaust valve to increase torque at low RPM ? The position of the rotary valve could change depending on RPM by using a vario like system. By doing so you could change the engines diagramme depending on RPM, in addition you could even turbo charge a two stroke ...
@2STROKESTUFFING

I suppose it would. In my plan B it's there to allow a turbo/supercharger to build pressure.
