JJO is the total package, the complete package. Sure, you can nitpick and find in any other single countertenor a better this or a better that, but no one else has all the qualities that he possesses. With JJO you finally understand why the castrati inspired such a passionate following, he is pure magnetism, he is a phenomenon.

I think Jakub has started a new era on the countertenors' stage by retaining his masculine voice colour and still being a countertenor. Beautiful! By using the perfect combination of the head and chest voice flawlessly, he has become a revolutionary in the world of countertenors. He does not overuse vibrato, his vibrato became an artistic tool to add some colour, not only to relax the vocal cords. He knows that the highest quality of diction is paramount for top singers. On top of that, despite his success he remained a nice, humble and hardworking human being whose work may inspire many others.

Regarding his mouth when singing... It looks effortless, opened and stable when compared to other countertenors who seem to work so hard (look at Fagioli's recordings). Jakub sings in a very natural, open, straightforward way. In my opinion, he uses vibrato as an ornament more than a way to achieve so called "healthy technique" or combines them very smartly. I think his fitness, strong core muscles let do things others cannot do. In his interviews he always emphasises the role of his strong body muscle control (resulting from his i.e. break dancing) in the sound production and body awareness. Before singing he always does some body work out and breathing to feel he is ready for it.

I've always loved orchestra & operatic singing but it wasn't until Jakub Jozef Orilinski did I learn the names of the songs or even what they were about. He's opened up a whole new world for me just by the emotional beauty of his voice.

Jakub, is an amazing and well trained counter-tenor but he is a singer of the Barok genre. IMO the 'best' singer at the moment is clearly Dimash Kudenbergen. He has a 7 octave range and sings can sing in multiple genres from opera to modern pop. Check him out!

I love Jacob Orlinski and he has worked very hard to get where he is today. He is a good, solid counter tenor but the best singer around today? That is going too far. However wrote this statement seems to be unaware of the amazing Dimash Kudaibergen Many professionals singers and coaches would consider this young Kazakh gentleman to be ‘the best singer around at the moment’. Able to sing in many musical genres, opera ( he recently sang a duet with Placido Domingo), pop, rap, musical theatre, jazz/ blues etc. He sings in many languages, Russian, Italian, English, Chinese, Japanese, French, Spanish and so on. He has a seven octave range and sings with many colours and timbre. Check him out yourselves. You’ll thank me afterwards!

I think he is a great opera singer but the best vocalist on the planet is Dimash Qudaibergen.

I don't think there's such a thing as the most talented singer on earth... I adore Jakub but there are many amazing countertenors out there, like Fagioli, Scholl, Jaroussky, which are basically all at the same level as Orliński. I think we can say that the most gifted singer on earth at the moment is Dimash Kudaibergen. It doesn't mean that He's the best one because that's a matter of taste.

To my ears (and eyes) Orlinski sounds (and looks) quite tense and held (especially on his higher notes) compared to, for example, some of my favourite countertenor singers. I guess that's part of his approach and technique, but I don't think it will serve him well in the long term. A beautiful performance that I like, although I think it could have a bit more passion, is this one by the English singer Michael Chance from a 1988 recording. It's very free and natural sounding and his trills are a lot more effortless than Orlinski's. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1RJVA3l2y84.html

Perhaps, since falsetto often can come off as sounding strained, if it hurt him, I would assume he would have already sustained an injury.

I can hear quite a lot of ease in his singing. Little tension which is required when you do something... even walking creates some tension. I have seen many recognised singers showing much more tension... Some tension is required to move the body. Same with instrumentalists... no playing without tension. There always must be, otherwise everything is floppy. The necessity is to know how to relax during any kind of performance.

well .when you start with the passion bit, I know you grabbing at straws up ,in air, nothing of substance will follow...
@olialto7

@@bvdswqawe11 I wasn't referring to Orlinski not singing with passion, if that's what you meant? I didn't quite understand you. I sing as a countertenor, have sung with other countertenors, have been taught by countertenors and have listened to lots of countertenors over the past twenty years. That's not me trying to say I know it all, because I certainly don't by a long long way. Just to demonstrate that there's some substance to my comment. Even without all that, I was just airing an opinion, not stating what I believe to be absolute fact.

David Daniels has a totally different approach. For me, he overwhelms with vibrato (which does not sound very stylish in Baroque) and sounds far too feminine. Everyone has a different taste though.
