It was forward, but i just hate how everyone goes on about it like it was the worst decision in history! It was marginal, it was a pop to a guy right next to him, very hard to see (& remember this was just before HD & the start of tech advancements in sports), so yes, glad his career didn't disintegrate due to 1 mistake, & also that you aren't one of those sour grapes

The Japanese deserved that top spot beating the Boks in 2015. I remember watching that game live and couldn't believe what I was seeing! Even the pitch marshals and the ball boys were jumping around celebrating at the end, it was incredible! If you could bottle the spirit and energy of that Japanese team, we would a be so lucky.

& then they weren't & did even better 4 years later, okay maybe their home patch helped, but as good as sa was, it was a steal if an upset whereas in '19 they beat Ireland & Scotland to reach the qf's, consistently being good, & scoring some of the tries of the tournament!

Given how Rugby is scored, I'm not sure that a team coming behind to win necessarily qualifies as a 'comeback'. From what I recall of the SA vs Japan game, Japan stayed stubbornly in the match (in a manner that they might not have been expected to, perhaps) and made the decisive score at the end. Similar for the England-Wales game: it was an arm wrestle, and Wales winning in the end was more surprising because of their injury list by the end, but it was always game on. France vs NZ in 1999, on the other hand, looked over at half time, and NZ then came out and scored again. Throughout the tournament, Lomu looked unstoppable, and looked like he could run through or over France at will. But France responded by removing all safety features and went for it, and everything came off.

Wales' comeback wasn't epic. It was standard. Why exactly is so out there When Wales beat England? Its virtually neck and neck over the lifetime of the rivalry. The only difference between the nations is one drop goal.
@kurtsudheim825
@kurtsudheim825 3 года назад
I also said this, teams take the lead, & because you don't score points evenly like in football, (different tasks awarding different points), doesn't necessarily make it a comeback
@Cwlcymro
@Cwlcymro 2 года назад
If you remember that game Wales were ravaged by injury and by the time they went 7 points down late on they had lost about 4 players to injury (on top of all the players out for injury before tournament and in earlier games.). There was a moment 10mins from time where Williams and Amos went off i just together just as England scored a penalty. The try to bring level was scored by a scrum half picking up a ball from another scrum half's kick - we had both on the pitch as so many were injured

@@Cwlcymro great point. This is often overlooked. It was a comeback of the soul, the spirit in the face of a heavily depleted team both before and during the match. An extraordinary display of poise, resolve and self belief.
@Clowdono
@Clowdono 3 года назад
So the number 1 comeback is overcoming a 7 point difference? When you can actually score 7 points with just a try, I would consider that plain normal. I don't think we have the same definition of a comeback. For me it's like a 14 points difference at half time or so. I guess the two NZ/France games count but not the rest. Both Japan victories are amazing performances but they aren't comebacks.
@symeremeyers4148
@symeremeyers4148 3 года назад
To me, a comeback is when a team is down by a lot of points and then you start to lose hope for them winning and then they manage to get back into the game and win. England having a ten point lead isn't really that great a "comeback" and Japan being down by a try and still managing to win isn't really that impressive.
@Cwlcymro
@Cwlcymro 2 года назад
The Wales v England 'comeback' was less because of the scoreline and more because Wales lost so many players to injury during the game that it seemed impossible they'd get back into it.
