Today, we're talking about the most underrated bosses from each of the souls games by FromSoftware. This includes Demon's Souls, Dark Souls 1, Dark Souls 2, Dark Souls 3, Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring. I wanted to list my opinion for the most underrated boss of each game and what I liked best about it because they all have unique combat and other mechanics that set them apart from each other.

I think a posture bar would take the visceral feeling of fights away from ER bosses. It’s a lot less intense if I have a posture bar to shoot for. I prefer it where I don’t know when I’m gonna get that opening - keeps me humble every time I run the game with a new build.

I feel like this argument wouldn't hold much weight in the long run. A stun bar would help a lot more people than annoy those who'd ignore it. Stun is already a mechanic in the game. it'd be nice if both parties can keep track of those stats during the fight rather than second-guess. What would be the harm in that?

honestly Godrick to me is like the Abyss Watchers in DS3, an objectively easy fight but everything within it is so well put together that its a fight i really wish was more difficult or lasted longer, each is an absolutely wonderful spectacle. it is plainly way too fun to be over that quickly

Abyss Watchers are way easier than Godrick. If you fight both at an appropriate level, Abyss Watchers are still a piece of cake, whereas Godrick can F you up if you're not careful. Still not difficult, but definitely not an ''easy'' fight, IMO.

I once stated The Demon Prince to be the most underrated boss in all of Souls, it's nice seeing that fight get the recognition it deserves. I also fully agree on Godrick. I'm not a fan of most bosses in Elden Ring, but he easily took the spot as my favorite fight. He deals reasonable damage which makes it an interesting back and forth instead of a constant vigor check, most of his attacks are well telegraphed with not much unusual delay, he's the source behind some great memes and has an awesome 2nd phase transition. Borealis would be my pick for Elden Ring. Regular dragon fights are so fun in this game, and this is the ultimate one, with a cinemati "frozen lake" twist and dangerous frost moves. The intro to this boss, with you riding Torrent straight at his screaming jaws through the fog, is just epic. Kudos for bringing up Shadows of Yharnam, brilliantly paced boss.
@oakleyraverty1030
@oakleyraverty1030 Год назад
Idk, in my totally anecdotal experience it suffers from Elden Rings hyper scaling. My first encounter with Borealis was at night. I rode onto the lake I heard the boss music and saw the health bar, couldn't see the boss or lock on in the dark mist, tried to continue riding, got one shot from the frost breath that appeared out of nowhere with no warning out of the mist which it looked almost identical too

@@oakleyraverty1030 I really don't like this saying, but I feel like that if you got oneshot, you didn't have very high vigor. Could be wrong, could've been weird horse hitboxes and an unlucky frost proc and your point is still valid.

@@oakleyraverty1030 I know the rot dragon has a big nearly unavoidable attack where it breathes a big rot cloud right in front of him, so that might've been what you saw with Borealis. Also make sure you weren't using Radagon's Soreseal; those reduce your damage negation and are a noob trap since they become hinderances in the lategame as the extra vigor gets overshadowed by that downside.

I think Gaping Dragon is a good choice for DS1 on this list, but the other fight from that game that I think is particularly underrated is the Iron Golem. I like the creepy design of the golem, being such a giant humanoid with a tiny head wearing shiny armor-- it makes you kind of wonder if there's any sort of humanity inside that suit of armor or if it is just a soulless monstrosity. Also I think the arena you fight him in is very cool, being on a dangerously narrow walkway at the top of Sen's Fortress, a dungeon which felt to me a lot like some kind of forest temple from Zelda, having a sense of mystery surrounding it and making me wonder what would be waiting for me when I reached the top.

A boss that's actually slept on in DS3 is Iudex Gundyr, the very first boss of the game. And the reason for that is that it shows you most, if not all major mechanics that the game throws at you, Iudex is arguably the best tutorial boss in any of the games. First of all he's parryable, secondly he has a 2nd phase and you really learn a lot from fighting him, like the fact that you can hit him before the fight even starts and also during the transition to phase 2, since you get 20-30 seconds of free damage during the fight, you learn to jump in and take advantage of the bosses downtime.
@SolaScientia
@SolaScientia Год назад
He's also tough while being fair. He's not an insurmountable wall like some bosses. He's faster without being extremely fast. I learned more from him than I have from any other tutorial bosses in their games. Asylum Demon is far too easy in DS1 and doesn't really teach much. Same for that Grafted Scion boss in Elden Ring. Well, I guess Margit is technically a tutorial boss, but with the game being open world, there really isn't a tutorial boss for that game. Oh, that soldier in the tutorial cave area and that was just far too easy to count for anything. The Cleric Beast and Father Gascoigne are good in Bloodborne, but they're also not really tutorial bosses. Cleric Beast can be treated like a faster Dark Souls boss. Gascoigne teaches the player how to fight against other hunters, but then changes tune when he transforms into a beast. But neither boss really shows the player anything all that new compared to what they've been fighting on the way to each boss.

Godrick is definitely the most underrated boss in Elden Ring. Margit may be a gatekeeper but Godrick is a tester of your game knowledge. Dude have literally everything you need to know from jumping attacks to posture breaking. And on the topic of posture breaking. I don't think it's a good idea to put a posture bar in the Elden Ring UI. In Sekiro posture breaking was the main focus, while in ER downing HP is main focus - breaking posture is a playstyle. It's a absolutely fun playstyle but not everyone use it. It's like having a cookies in front of your face but being not allowed to eat them because you don't do something (not using heavy attacks or "heavier" spells) And the sound of poise breaks... It's like slapping a boss with a nuke in the face. 10/10, best mechanic in Elden Ring. Sekiro is amazing but great hammer in the face is more satisfying for me

Much love for picking the Gaping Dragon. I love that little Nope so much. It has no real story (except for "probably a Dragon crashed into the Underground and corrupted there"), the fight is really easy and it is an optional boss aswell, but I still love it. it just has this feeling of "dungeon exploring". Also the boss actually gets kinda hard if you are cursed, because then he will probably one-shot you with every touch.

I don’t know why but I had an absolute blast fighting the gargoyle duo fight, it was a perfect mix of one runs in and the other sits back, but the that sat back speed poison, I had fun dying and learning their moves and eventually was confident enough to fight Black Death gargoyle, pushed him over in like 2 tries.

I agree with a lot of this. Demon Prince is one of the best bosses in DS3 and hardly anyone talks about it. I think it's far more enjoyable than certain other fan favourites that I don't really like that much, such as Friede and Midir that, IMO, really only get rated highly because of their difficulty and not much else.

Was really hoping to see Micolash in the Bloodborne section. The mechanics of a boss fight are top priority ofc, but you can't tell me Micolash doesn't go extra hard in terms of atmosphere and all that external drive to squash him.
@SolaScientia
@SolaScientia Год назад
Agreed. At seeing the Shadows on the list I'd forgotten about Micolash. He took me just 2 attempts and on my first attempt he led me right to the first room and then again in phase 2 where he then killed me with that Call Beyond because I really mistimed a dodge. On my second attempt, however, he led me on a merry chase for at least 5 minutes before he went to the first room and then for phase 2 he again led me all over the place. I saved that clip and that fight was nearly 10 minutes with probably at least 8 minutes being me chasing his chickenshit ass around his library. I do love all the talking he does and the mocking howls and such.

I believe that Halflight is an underrated fight. It’s not bad, the boss music is epic, and it doesn’t deserve the hate it gets. It gets so hated on despite not being a bs bossfight
@SolaScientia
@SolaScientia Год назад
Probably because it's an Old Monk scenario for the players playing online and having to fight another player as a boss and dealing with lag and such. I'm not yet to that fight (just started the DS3 DLC), but since I play these games offline I'll be able to fight actual Halflight and not another player. The other issue might be from the 3 Painted Guardians that get summoned in and just how much damage they can do (how easily they and Halflight can stunlock the player).

I completed Bloodborne for the first time earlier this week and it was a hell of a ride. I love the Shadow of Yharnam fight. I managed to kill them on my first attempt and I did go into that fight terrified. I was more scared of having to do the run back to them if I got killed. I chewed through my blood vials like mad, but I handled the fight pretty well. I'm not sure I actually saw the snake summon at all when I was down to just 1 Shadow. Even though I was outnumbered it never felt unfair. Now, the gank fight of the Living Failures majorly sucked for me. I couldn't get a handled on the fight and ended up summoning Yamamura to help me with them. I'm also finally to both DLC in DS3. I took a break from it to complete Bloodborne, but I made it all the way through the main game before I stopped to refocus on Bloodborne. I've seen others fight the Demon Princes and I'm rather excited for it. It definitely gets slept on. I play offline and while I know I can summon Laap and/or Gael for it, I might try it solo for a bit. Even though it being 2v1 worries me a bit. I am going to look up the fight again before I get there so that I can remember which one to try to kill first. I'd rather fight the Demon Prince with the laser than the Demon Prince with the meteor attacks. I hated those things in Smoldering Lake and would rather not deal with a boss doing that attack at me. I had a lot of fun with Dragonslayer Armor and his music is among the best in a game already filled with great music. Champion Gundyr was a rough fight (with an annoying af run to get to him), but it was fun. I tried parrying him, but I think I was slightly off with the timing or just too far away, because I'd parry him but then the game wouldn't let me land the critical on him. I'm going to see if I'm better at parries in DS3 since fighting Lady Maria and the Orphan of Kos taught me how to parry in Bloodborne. Godrick was initially impressive, but if I ever fight him again (I'm a bit burned out on Elden Ring and I'm nowhere near the end of it) I'm going to do it differently. I went in with Nepheli (the woman NPC we can summon) and summoned Aurelia the jellyfish. I killed him on my first attempt and it honestly wasn't even me. That woman got in the final hit. I can't tell if bringing her and using the jellyfish spirit made the fight too easy or if I was overleveled or if it was a combination of factors, but that fight was far too easy for what I was expecting. Same for Radahn. I went in again scared and I think he took me just 4 attempts, and I didn't even summon that many of the NPCs to help. As for Sekiro, I'm going back to that one once I've finished DS3. I need to be able to properly focus on that game and be able to completely get the muscle memory down without interference from other FromSoftware games.

Penetrator is my favorite from demon's souls. The shadows of yarnaham is my favorite from Bloodborne base game. Gaping dragon is kind of just a target practice boss and fill your screen. The pursuer got an amazing design and that's bout it. If the crossbow wasn't there he'd be alot higher. Godrick i agree, he's an amazing boss to finish off the castle and the scaling at that point actually worked compared to later bosses even tho i explored a shit ton beforehand. As for twin princess demons they are an amazing introduction to the ringed city and are also one of my favorite fights. As for corrupted true monk, the fight doesn't feel good and heavily forces you to play alot more passively at start. And at the 3rd phase you just wait for the puke or get really annoyed by it. 2nd phase with the clones and the oneshot leap is fun tho. But what would fill that spot alot better in Sekiro is Guardian ape. Seemingly chaotic fight at start, then in the most fromsoftware fashion he picks up his head and you start a sword duel with a giant gorilla

I think The corrupted 2nd phase instakill is intentional . That is why she kinda has 3 phase and not being a main boss. She only appears when you stand on a certain branch. And it's execute animation is unique. It is not like you can encounter a normal enemy variant in the open fields. If it wasn't intended one of them would be patched out.
@jcharr1

I remember before it was released, From showed a demo of that fight and mentioned there being a secret way to finish it faster. So I'm pretty sure it's intentional. The 1st phase one wasn't though. I'm pretty sure that one got patched out.

Yeah Gaping Dragon Demon of Song, an interesting boss with invincible phases, lots of attack options and things it can do, with lots of style and flair combined with the arena and it being integrated through song into the area. Moon Presence, i like the hp drain attack to push you to rally it, the heal-sealing bubbles, i seem to remember cutting the tentacles which if true was fun, was pretty ferocious with the movement and rush-down attacks, just not as hard as Gehrman or as beautiful as Gehrman, it obviously couldn't follow up Gehrman, it is too easy and staggers too easy. Dancer of the Boreal Valley, feel like she got a lot of love back in the day but lost the appreciation over time. A hard boss until you've got her in which case she's still pretty challenging, the music trick is cute, her having the glowy sword and then styling up the arena with the flame sword, very visually impressive. Placidusax, overshadowed by other endgame bosses in terms of difficulty, has an actual run back, the boss music is only atmospheric and not a banger on its own, and kinda middling remembrance rewards but imo the best fight in the game with the best visuals and arena. Adulla, any dragon really are fun to fight but i like Adulla's additional moves to the basic formula.

cool list! I definitely agree on Godrick being the most underrated main boss in ER, for me he's just the best boss in the game, period, with Godfrey being a close second. As for the minibosses, though, I'd have to go with the Fallingstar Beast, the Caelid version is not great due to the arena, but the fight at the top of Mt Gelmir is just pure perfection, especially if you get there underleveled hard agree on Sekiro as well, it's kinda funny, since I absolutely hated the false Corrupted Monk due to the absurd posture recovery, but the true version was awesome many good points on the earlier games, Demon Princes are now starting to get the love they deserve (esp after people saw how bad duo fights can be in ER), but were definitely overlooked at launch
@minerman60101
@minerman60101 Год назад
I've only fought the Caelid one after it got downgraded to a normal Fallingstar Beast as opposed to the full grown variant, and I found the arena fine. In my RL1 run I've killed it and the one in Altus, and the Caelid one's arena made it a bit easier to be honest; I had more control over the fight and better opportunity to apply pressure and get poise breaks.
