The Custom Robo Gotcha Force overlap is beautiful; this is one of my favorite games of all time and I'm so glad any time I see ANYONE mention this game at all. From the amazing gameplay to the addictive borg hunting to the crazy shiny pokemon-like mechanic to make hunting even more addictive, to even the insane 20th force glitch which turns the speedrun into an insane feat of programming and menuing alike, this game just has it all. Like you said, even the downright awful voice acting is fun with how bad it is. It's incredible.
if it had been an arcade game, maybe more people might have been aware? (e.g. like Virtual-On) dang, the bots are minis... It would have been real insane if they appeared in a Super Robot Wars game. But sometimes mech size doesnt stop the game dev such as in SRW spinoff Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier or Project X Zone 1. 8:15 TF2 Heavy: *heavy breathing
Really like how you composed this video and the custom robo video. Concise commentary that’s sparingly used and plenty of gameplay to actually show off the game. So refreshing to watch a review that isn’t just someone gushing about it for 15 minutes.
I had no idea this game existed. I'm so glad I modded my console and don't have to buy a physical copy of this to try it lmao. I really like the borg designs and how over the top the attacks can get. I enjoyed the video!
I wanted this game so badly as a kid after seeing a blurb about it in a random gaming magazine. I had no idea what it was like, but it had tiny fighting robot men and I was all here for it. Sadly, I literally never saw it at the store. Pretty sure this far into rural Ohio, they never bothered stocking it. By some miracle I DID manage to get my hands on Custom Robo though, and that filled the Gotcha Force-shaped hole in my heart.
One of the defining games of my childhood. Greatest impulse buy I ever made. Back when renting games was a thing, I was perusing the GameCube section, saw a red robot holding a sword and the Capcom logo grabbed it immediately. Bought it, got home, popped in the GameCube, and 30 minutes later I rush back to the store a buy it. The number of hours I put into this game either grinding for borgs, or throwing down with my cousin and other friends is staggeringly high. Forever in my top 3 games of all time. And the rarest and most expensive game I own. Now give us a sequel or a remaster with online Capcom. Also, Cyber Ninja is best borg. Another thing that needs to be mentioned, the music is incredible.
I'd kill for a sequel or spiritual successor man. Battling toys is like my favorite concept ever, there's just something so immediately charming and campy about little plastic and metal fellas who you make duke it out, out of a sheer animalistic will for violence... Uh, more importantly, they always just look cool! And I really enjoy how this game is set up in an arena fighter context. I really think Capcom could make this game come back with a focus on multiplayer. Maybe you do singleplayer to earn more gotchas and take them into online. Could even be a team game. Just give me more battling toys man!
Gameplay wise it's has the Gundam VS games Granted capcom stopped making these type of games up to Sengoku Basara chronicles in 2011 but bandai been keeping Gundam Vs up to date in arcades at least
I played this game so much, my siblings didn't want to try out the insane team comps I made. I had 2 complementary teams full of the combination robots that alternated every 2 borgs (1 team would have 2 top robots then 2 bottom robots and repeat, and other team would be the reverse), meaning it was endless combinations, and I literally named both of them as "Machine God A" and "Machine God B". It was insane. Neo G Red was my initial favorite, but Garuda took that spot as he was just great up close and at range with flight. The only things he struggled against were the big transformer robots and air ships.
As the backbone of those Gundam VS games, it’s much more significant than you think. Needless to say it has a cult following and a physical copy is going more and more expensive
New Gotcha Force in 2024? WOOOOOOOOH!! Playing Custom Robot and Gotcha Force in the early 2000's was a blast. I wish both these series got some modern love. Though there are a few(?) indie games that are trying to play like CR (Battle Core Robots is one and theres a demo on steam), GF somewhat exists today since the Gundam VS games have a similar gameplay and the team life point system that GF has. Now I need to bring out my gamecube and play through both again.
it really is a shame capcom is sleeping on this game in recent times. this is like the perfect timespace where a game like this would be pretty successful.
Medabots is also a similar property that saddly got forgotten over time. I remember the playing the Gamecube game for it for a long time and enjoying collecting all the different parts for my cool robots.
The gamecube (and really the ps2/DC/xbox also) have a lot of quirky hidden gems. This era really suffered from the online review era "game got less than 8 = garbage".
I played this every day when I was in middle and high school. I really wish this got a rerelease for the Switch or something! A very rare gem within the gaming world that I still own.
My Brother and I loved this game. I remember coming home one day and he dragged me to his room to show it to me. Once he got me playing it I was hooked. I think he eneded up beating the game and unlocking more Gotcha Borgs later on.
I am so very glad other people can appreciate this game. It's basically proto-Gundam Breaker and it is SPECTACULAR. I have a printout from the website back in the day with my team up on the wall in my room. Moved houses and put it back up when I moved here damn near 10 years ago hahahaha.
@@kujo9927which actually makes sense because Capcom were behind Gundam Federation VS Zeon only a few years prior, the first game in the Gundam VS lineage.
It also makes sense why they never really did anything more with it since even now trying to compete with exvs would largely be suicide even if they don't end up finally porting vs2 soon. Not to mention Capcom has a gorillion other more historic, landmark IPs to be reviving first before baby's first gundam versus.
This game was soo fun. My friends, little brother, and I would have so much fun playing this and trading borgs and such. So many cool characters, and really loved the hero borgs.
i remember buying this game on a whim as a child, getting super hooked on it, scratching the disk and then buying another copy, only to find out later that this is a somewhat rare game, i still play it from time to time and even made a digital copy of the save file just in case
I always played my brother's copy as a kid and got hooked on it to the point I used it as the basis for my online handle back in like 2012 and never changed it. His copy is still sitting in his room so it's always funny to think there's just a $700 gold brick of a game in there.
LOVED this game so much. I still remember so much of the bad voice lines. “Mana!” “Mahna!” lives rent free. Big part of my childhood, I was addicted to this for months.
I, too, was one of the lucky kids growing up who randomly bought this game , I remember thinking there must of been an anime it was based on but thought it was weird i never saw it on tv . My favoriate part was the last level where you fight on a plant earth and the fact that if you beat certain fights that you were expected to lose it opened up diffenrt story paths , I really regret tradeing this game in as a kid to GameSpot cause I'm sure i got less than 20$ for it lol
I played this so hard that I got all versions of G red. Saw all the storyline, and managed to find out that the number of Shinobu you can put on one team is insane.I think I still have this game in storage with my game cube too. My brother and I called the box you store the borgs in the Gotcha Saver. My most hated battle was the icbm. Oddly, the knights with shields can tank the blast if it hits from the front of the shield.
Yeah I hate the ICBM too. Died so many times to them til I realized I should just add a bunch of units so they explode themselves before I lose all my borgs 😂
Me and my friends played the hell outta this game bought this pre owned back during the game cube era. I will say i never actually fully read the translated dialogue but you bringing up that it was mistranslated was hilarious. I agree 100% that the collecting and the battling was the strength of this game and it is sad that both this and custom robo will never see another release :( Also my personal favorite borg is Gold Hero when he transforms his quadruple jump and air dash is essentially like having a flying borg on certain maps.
@@user-vi4xy1jw7e Mainly because Capcom has been 1 focusing on RE, Street Fighter, and Monster Hunter more than all their other franchises and they are going decidedly progressive basically putting in things that IMO shouldn't be in videogames especially ones that are already preestablished. Just my two cents now could they make sequels and them end being good? Yes however the last game that got a sequel that was a huge disappointment was Dragons Dogma 2 so i am not holding my breath
This game still slaps to this day... I'm glad someone loved it. I had 2 copies and sold one during COVID 270 on eBay! It's now worth more. Love this game!! It's essentially a build off the Gundam vs Gundam engine and concept.
I remember getting this because young me had confused it with Custom Robo at the time. It paid off though. Great game, my brother cleared it more times than I can count, and later I ended up falling into the Gundam EXVS rabbit hole which probably happened due to the shared devs.
Big respect for giving this goated game some attention, give us a remaster or reboot Capcom! Optional Japanese voiceover, online matches and free camera movement would be nice if they ever did. Shoutout Dark Knight most fun Borg in the game

Still have a copy collecting dust, I've yet to meet anyone in real life that actually knows about Gotcha Force let alone played it. Always warms my heart to see a youtube video about it pop up every few years 🙂 Anyone ever wonder where all the kids they probably kidnapped for the voice acting ended up? I'd be curious to know if any of them went on to do any further VA work after that lol
This game feels like the console processor to Little Battlers Experience from the 3DS. That's a good thing tho, cause maaaan they are both games I'd have gone feral for as a child (And now... lol)

Gotcha Force is one of my favorite games on the Gamecube. I still have my physical copy. Though I don't have the original box it came in sadly. I was only around 5 or so when my Papaw bought it for me at a Sam's Club of all places! I was wanting that Marvel's Nemesis game but they saw it was rated T. Then I saw Gotcha Force and knew I had to have it. It's a game I cherish very much. I didn't really understand a lot of it until I played it more as I got older. But it's always been such a fun game to go back to. I hope one day Capcom makes a Sequel or at least remasters this game. I think in today's market it would stand do better than it did back in 2003. But I'm proud to be at part of that 30k who bought the game!
I remember playing this at my friend's house a few times when I was young but never learned the name of this game! Seeing this game again, the voices are so terrible! Now I know where the concept of Gundam Extreme games came from!
So I was curious what these guys ended up doing with this concept of a game where it was a bunch of mechs you can just have fun with... Would it surprise you they went on and made the Gundam Vs series? It makes so much sense when you see this as a prototype for what it was going to turn into!
I think I'm the one guy who actually preordered this (preorder bonus was the strategy guide...which is really just a list of all the Gotcha Borgs). There was an import game shop near me and the import version of Auto Modellista had a trailer for Gotcha Force on it and I said "Sold." Good thing I did, all my friends bought copies too and it is one of our favorites to this day. While Gotcha Force has many successors in the Gundam VS series, it's never quite the same. Also sad that Capcom has only ever references this game ONCE: Guy's alternate Midnight Bliss form in Capcom Fighting Evolution is Shadow Girl from Gotcha Force (which is why a Shadow Girl/Killer Girl figure exists and is the easiest piece of Gotcha Force merch to find). That said, Custom Robo is awkward to me because I imported Custom Robo V2 on N64 and loved it so the Gamecube one felt like crap. It's probably the second weakest entry in the series after Custom Robo Advance. The DS one, however, is incredible.
Weirdly enough I did play this! Custom Robo and Gotcha Force were the "Virtual On but for kids" games that I surprisingly loved even though I was def NOT a kid when I found them.
A staff member at my after school had this game and he would let all us kids play against each other, dude also had showed me Jump Ultimate Stars on his ds I hope he's doing alright
I remember reading about this game in Nintendo Power. I wanted it so bad, but I was an 11 year old who only really ever got games for birthdays and Christmas. I always went for the Nintendo published games. This game really gives me Virtual On vibes. Did you ever play that series? It was so fun to play the arcade version. Would love if you covered those games!
I miss this game, funny voice acting, the gacha grind it had to get all the Gotcha borgs, Beam gunner and chrono samurai were two of my favorites. Neo G Red was always my safety net. Sucks trying to buy this game now will destroy one's wallet 😅 Glad to see a Gotcha Force video in 2024. 💚
That intro was exactly why I picked up the game. Never seen it before in magazines, saved up some cash and went to grab a game, took a punt and never regretted it.
Voice acting was new? For video games, it had already been around for almost a decade. If you include animated movies and cartoons, it was around for decades.
I'm a simple man, I see any acknowledgement of Gotcha Force's existance, I Click. But for real this was a great video very funny informative and well put together.
Gotcha Force was one of my childhood games. I was surprise to hear , well not heard talk about the game. One of the last memories i had of this game was doing the "Gotcha Force Vs. Hero Borg Unit Final Round" where i kept getting my butt kicked. I do heavily recommend trying out the Gundam Versus games if you were a fan of this game or hopefully Capcom rerelease the game (even though i doubt it)
I’ve only heard of this game because Jerma985 spent $250 on it and played it on stream, while the viewers made fun of him for not just emulating it and kept pushing him to play something else (he didn’t). One of my favorite streams he’s done.
man, I remember this game. A friend of mine bought this game, and we went into it hard. Almost as hard as we got into Phantasy Star Online Episode 1&2. The ability to do the various NG+'s and get better shots at rare stuff was amazing, and how the AI got better and the units you went up against got harder as you went up in the NG's brought so much variety.

I actually was lucky enough to own it, but then something must have possessed me because I'm pretty sure I sold it because I no longer have it, so I just emulate now. I still have my copy of Custom Robo. Both games are two of my favorite games of all time as well. Great video!
This is actually MY FAVOURITE game of all time, I wait every year since I got it in 2003 and my copy broke in 2011 for a remake/remaster that isn’t bent to modern mechanics .. I actually had a lot of shadow, Clear, gold Borgs, silver Borgs I had all the combo Borgs … I was that nerd you came to to 2 v 1 a 30/30/30 borg limit match … I miss My Gold Hero, Star Hero, and Killer Girl, Bram gunner, and Cyber Ninja ; w;
You're giving me some real blurry memories here, I swear I played this at a baby sitters house when I was a kid, I remember seeing the Armored Core series and assuming I played it when I was younger because of this game
I bought this used in 2008 for 39,99€ , the disc was completely fine. Then when my Wii and some old games were stuck at my moms place after I moved out, one day the disc was scratched and I cant potentially sell it anymore. 😢 Games still working though

Finally somebody is talking about gotcha force I love this game it's a shame Capcom just refuses to acknowledge it's existence I got lucky as a kid and got it for $20 at a rental store inside of a Kroger it was on the clearance rack tbh I wish I could've bought every copy knowing how much it's worth I still have the manual although I used to take it with me to school and sadly it's worn but it is complete I wish Capcom would port the game I don't even care if they remade it i just want more people to play it

I bought this game new and sealed for $28.98 in 2009, just when people online were starting to sing its praises. I still own it, and Amazon still has the order in my history so I can remind myself how much I paid every time the subject of how its price has skyrocketed comes up. The current state of the used games market in the West is a curse upon mankind. Thank god for digital piracy.
Had never even heard of the game before I found it in my local retro game store for $200. I’m a sucker for “kids battling with toys” type stuff like beyblade, so of course I got it. Was not disappointed.
