I’d hardly say a golf R was underrated

I'm in the US, and I own a Mk6 R... I've been in love since I saw the ad online. Got it 49.5k miles. Had it for 7 months now, and it's only at 51.8k miles. I treat her right, and she responds right when I want her to put power down. Running a Stage 1 tune for a month now, and I highly recommend it. The turbo hiss always puts a smile on my face. With the APR stage 1 the turbo definitely sounds better. Can't wait to do more modifications to my R. But I'm still under warranty🤫

There was only a limited number of Mk6 Rs built for the UK which is why you don’t see a lot of them . I’m fortunate enough to own one. I had the option to purchase a Mk7 R but couldn’t do it due to the popularity of them and it’s all because of these leasing deals. Don’t get me wrong the Mk7 R is a brilliant car, very predictable on the road and a strong MQB engine to compliment it. But I prefer the feel to the Mk6 and in my eye, it’s a better looking car. And because these were built before this leasing nonsense, good spec low mileage examples hold value really well.

Love Mk6s. Don't have or could never afford a Golf R but I love that model. Have one myself and its a dream to drive. And i was never a huge Golf fan but after driving one I understand why they've so much love :)

Underrated? A Golf R? Ahh, I get it, the MK6 undersold compared to the 7. A 6 with the manual box is the way I’d go if I wanted a fast Golf.

Theres no denying that my Mk7 Golf R was a better all round car than my Mk6 Golf R. But the Mk6 R felt special, whereas the Mk7 R just felt like white goods. I didnt look at my Mk7 R and think it looked special. If anything the Mk7 R looked like a slightly tweaked entry-level Golf. The Mk6 steering feel is slightly less direct, but can be improved. I'd actually have another low mileage Mk6 again, whereas I'd walk away from another Mk7 R. Good purchase.

I love my Mk6 Golf R that I have here in Australia. Unfortunately ours were detuned due to our hot climate and poor quality fuel. I have DSG, Leather, Dynamic Chassis Control & 19” Talledega’s with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tyres. I upgraded the head unit to an Apple CarPlay one and fitted an adjustable 26mm Superpro rear sway bar and Superpro adjustable end links. Stage 1 ECU/TCU tune planned for 2023.

just got myself a MK6 R 3Door with DSG. going to Stage 1 ECU + Stage 2 DSG + Haldex Comp Controller and Tune. all you need for a daily driver :D

i agree jamie. here in Edinburgh, i hardly see any golf mk6 r. i do see the odd mk5 R32 and alot of the mk7 r, i do get a woo face when i see a mk6 r, as u say there not many about at all and i dont know why really. myself i would have either a golf mk5 R32 or the mk 6 as i dont like the mk7 r

Golf mk6R is underrated as at the time of release PCP wasn't really a thing and for the same money (buying your car through finance or cash price) you could buy a Audi 8P, which had the same engine/running gear and also a better badge.

Pcp wasn’t about when the mk6 was released Now so many companies lease and do pcp so much more mk7 and mk7.5 on the road

Nobody bought it because it isn't much of an upgrade from Mk5 GTi Edition 30 owners with the same engine, R32 owners didn't want to upgrade either. Edition 35 Mk6 is popular with ED30 owners as an upgrade but the R is still ignored

I've had a 6R, a 7R and a 7.5R. 7 better to drive, own and run. 7.5 is best of bunch and cheapest to run.

Sooooo, anyone want to chime in on the engine? The fsi has the bigger ko4 turbo but then the tsi is a new engine that has been used even in the common gti, as well as why the mk5 gti has the same engine as this fsi r…….aaaaaaah

I just never see the point in this car, they’re what 11-13k for a nice one... why would anybody want it? Boring to look at, pretty expensive, not luxurious at all, boring engine. The amount of cars you could buy for the same price, that’s the reason you don’t see any. You say this car’s amazing, that’s because its had thousands spent on mods to make it better.
