It's not his natural game style to play risky, shotmaking, or be an all court player. For the majority of his career he's been a counter puncher and a baseliner. That's why this part of his game has been so overlooked, and as he's shown recently, he can adapt his game to easily incorporate more aggressive shotmaking and net skills. He's super talented

Notice that in many of these situations Rafa was already down a set and some breaks yet still manages to find these magical shots, it's the kind of character he is, he never relents, always fights to the end no matter the score line, and that is why he is the champion he is, that is why he is different, a legend and a class act, that is why we love him so so much. And by the way, is it just me or does James Blake seem like an older version of Tiafoe, seems to me they move the same, I just now noticed this:). Thank you for the video Tennis TV, nice edit!

So many parts of his game are underrated and that's mostly because he's one of the only players to evolve his game so many times over the years, when he first started only his forehand was known to sting but ever since he has worked on his touch and volley game which gives him a free point every time he comes to the net and he also now has the most effective serve on tour, not to forget- the best overhead ever

It’s not even a backhand, it’s a double handed forehand 😅 Nadal is right handed so he doesn’t HAVE a backhand - his backhand is the best left handed forehand on tour. (When he was a kid he used to play both wings double handed and his uncle noticed his footwork was suited for a left handed forehand so he had him try to play a one handed forehand with the left. He writes, plays golf and does everything but tennis with his right hand)

He developed that slowly, i'd say in terms of technical improvement, rafa has made the most stride among the big 3. I clearly remembered the teenager rafa, he was just a physical specimen with a forehand. The serves, volleys and backhands are now all weapons in his game. A close one is Novak, but i think his improvement is more in the mental and physical departments.

@dalina4009
@dalina4009 2 года назад
I don’t why people expected a teenager to have the same skills as a fully matured player. We’ve been trapped in this antithesis of Nadal teenager skills vs Federer matured player skills unwilling to see the natural evolution. Yes Nadal was a prodigy but that not means he was fully polished as a teenager All the commentators started and perpetuated this narrative of a hard working player vs a very talented player. But the evolution of Rafa was I repeat very natural according to his age and starting with 2008 he has established as complete player. Give me teenagers good at everything! He had a good net game even from the beginning but he has become a master in time like any normal player. Adding also a note in order to demote another false narrative “Nadal is good only on clay”. His biggest problems will remain the chronic injuries but not caused by the game of style but because of a congenital issue at his left foot discovered in 2005 Changing the shoes in order to save his left foot have created and enhanced pressure on the joints therefore his appetite for a soft surface with his joints, which is already studied and demonstrated to be clay.

Nadal has always been the underdog among Fed and Djoko (except at RG). People have been putting a time limit on his career for the longest time now bc of his aggressive playing style compared to the fluidity of Fed and the textbook technique of Djokovic. However, I always found it odd when people say Djoko will win more once Nadal slows down BUT Nadal is only 1 year older.. unlike Fed being 5 years older compared to the other two. Nadal's style has also transformed insanely more since he entered the ATP, compared to most players. His backhand became a weapon, his serve has drastically changed, his forehand became more fluid as well but his touch has always been there. He's always had some of the best net game on the tour, he has always maintained a high win % at the net.
