@@celtics17banners84I remember going to a Warriors v Celtics game in 94 or 95 and seeing Barros in pregame warmups just drain 3 after 3 after 3, he dropped like a 40 piece that game, and even the shots they dont regularly show on tv, like after a foul whistle Dana was just automatically sniping everything that night. And i'm not even a Celtics fan, but witnessing him that night left a lifetime impression of Dana Barros being extremely underrated in my book.💯👌
I read this whole list and saw no George McGinnis... Edit: pulled down the boards, dished assists, scored 20+. Would have made the HoF a lot earlier had he played his whole career in the NBA, not everyone can be Dr. J.
Throughout this video I was like “I wonder if this guy is on the list?” Then, the guy I thought of was on the list. Truly remarkable. FYI: Mookie Blaylock was Pearl Jams original stage name.
4:11 - two very underrated attributes about Aguirre: 1) he willingly sacrificed his games and stats to help win a ring (something Dantley struggled with), 2) he willingly offered to come off the bench to allow a young Dennis Rodman to flourish which was key to winning the second championship.
Johnny, this video is a masterpiece and might be my favorite video of yours. These very memorable players that I am a big fan of since I am a bigger fan of the lesser celebrated players or supporting players of the NBA and its history. Moments like Sam Cassell being the first to do the "Big Balls Dance" and Tom Chambers life-altering dunk over Mark Jackson (who I am a big fan of, but I call it how I see it) were great to relive. Thanks man.
He may not have been as good if he played for any other team his game was built for team ball not 1 on 1 and he showed that in the way he played the game
There was a patch there in the early-mid 90s where I just loved every nugget, even the bench. Was so happy to see Laphonso in this, my all time favourite guy.
@jonnyarnett 😂😂😂😂 yes absolutely . Averaged 120 pts while their opponents averaged 118 pts it was funny. But Adam and English and Fatleaver were amazing . It was fun to watch as well.
Very cool compilation, Jonny! One of the things I appreciate about your channel is how you cover so much of basketball history. I have been able to learn about underrated players, like Sidney Moncrief, Louie Dampier, Lafayette Lever (incredible how he had so many triple doubles and was such a good rebounder), and more via your channel (as well as learn more about players who I have heard of, like the late Len Bias and Mark Eaton). It's been great listening to this video. I had some nostalgia too. I am a short guy and I remember admiring Mugsy Bogues as a kid. So, it was awesome to watch the segment you had about his career too :). It was cool seeing others on here too, like Nate Archibald, Sam Cassell, Tim Hardaway, and Baron Davis. I remember watching the latter three when I was in my teens and twenties. Good times - and again, it was awesome to learn more about them. Keep up the good work. Have a great Thursday, Jonny!
@@qzurx Honestly its mostly a compilation of past videos, but there is some brand new stuff! I spend the past 2 days updating all the individual videos, and making sure the rankings and statistics are up to date. Hope you enjoy it!
So sad that Dennis Johnson didn't make the list. He is criminally underrated, since he is mostly remembered for his Celtics days when he was past his prime. I think he's arguably the best Supersonics/Thunder player ever.
I grew up in the 80s and 90s so I watched and know nearly all these guys. They were awesome, extremely talented. I don’t see plumbers and firemen in the group as JJ Redick assumes.
I mean Redick was an exceptional 3 point shot away from bein a plumber himself. He wuz great in college. But to me he wuz average in the NBA. About halfway thru his career everybody wuz shooting 3's at about the same clip as him. He never stood out that much
@@shawn1819 JJ Redick is inside top-20 all time in 3-point percentage and 3-point makes. There are 6 current active NBA players shooting at a higher clip than JJ did. Others are retired.
Dražen Petrović, Jalen Rose, Sheriff Abdur Rahim, Glen Rice, Glenn Robinson, Nick Van Exel, Stephon Marbury Shawn Marion, Alonzo Mourning, and Jermaine O'Neal. There, I named a few other super stars or stars that were all stars without being on the all star teams. I know there's more player you can list Johnny. Here's some for you to do a part 2.
I'm on the younger side of things but I love these kinds of videos people seem to forget that even though a lot of these guys weren't pretty they would kill in about every era
He was amazing. I know what you mean though - I rarely hear about him anymore. I think that (beyond Jonny's channel), I only heard him being discussed once during the last few years and that was with a friend of mine who is a longtime Kings fan.
He came up in a tough 2 gaurd era..he was better than guys like nick anderson or eddie jones but jordan drexler and miller out classed him pluse the kings was not a good team in the 90s
"When I think underrated players, first person for me, who always comes to mind, is Mitch ''The Rock" Richmond." He's in the Hall of Fame. He's vastly overrated.
John Havlicek is criminally underrated, I consider it foolish that he is not considered an all time great. As a lifetime Lakers fan, I can boast that the Lakers beat Birds Celtics, we NEVER beat Havlicek's Celtics. Hondo always made the clutch baskets. During their primes He and Bernard King were the best players in the league. And you left Bob McAdo off this list, shame on you.
Sam Cassell, Mookie Blaylock, Michael Finley, and Sean Elliott were interesting picks, while Louie Dampier and Downtown Freddie Brown were names that even I'm not familiar with 🤔
He has always been unbelievably bad in elimination games. The worst in history, in fact. As a Rocket, he played versus the Warriors, which is one of the greatest teams ever. So Harden's absolute meltdown choke job looked that much uglier.
Archibald (DeWitt Clinton) and Lenny Wilkens (Boys High) are the quintessential NYC point guards. Small, quick, smart and with a killer mid-range game.
Oscar led the league in assists 6 times, and that's why people call him a selfish stat-padder. Robinson faced Hakeem in the playoffs once in their careers. Robinson was the 2nd best player in that series, but was outplayed by Hakeem pretty badly. Most people evaluate Robinson's entire career based on that one series. The skill cap between Robinson and Hakeem wasn't that wide for their careers. Robinson is also probably the most humble superstar ever. He gave his center position to Duncan the first year Duncan entered the league. Robinson still put up significantly better numbers than Duncan, even though Robinson wasn't the first option anymore. Most people falsely say Duncan was the better player as a rookie.
No one ever mentions the 2(?) chips the Celtics got in the 70s. Cats tend to gloss over the 70s in general, it seems. Cowens was a monster. That was a good inclusion. So many of these dudes had talent that i feel would translate very well to current NBA schemes
Moses Malone is my favorite center of all time! I always loved watching him out rebound centers that were bigger than he was! He made using his body to move other centers wherever he wanted them into an art form!
Chris Jackson aka Abdul Rauf was straight 🔥. If that guy was on he was unbelievable. Search out the YT video on him lighting up Jordan. Just an unbelievably quick shooter who had more influence on future shooters than he’s given credit for.
I LIKE THIS VIDEO.BUT ALOT OF THESE GUYS ARE IN THE HALL OF FAME... AND ALOT OF FANS ARENT OLD ENOUGH TO KNOW ABOUT THEM... SO I APPRECIATE YOU TAKING THE TIME TO GIVE THEM THEIR JUST DO...FORTUNATE I STARTED WATCHING THE NBA IN 1964 SO IVE SEEN ALL OF THESE PLAYERS.IVE HAD THE PRIVILEGE TO WATCH THE NBA FOR 60 YEARS..ONCE AGAIN GREAT VIDEO..THANK YOU
I pretty much know all these players since I've been watching basketball my whole life and my grandfather used to tell me about some of the old timers but this is a great video then the reason why RU-vid is so excellent
Great video! This video is a great educational tool because, if anyone would try to put together all this information, it would take years of research and effort. Thank you for your work and service. 🎉
I think if you're on the NBA Top 75 team, you're not really underrated. Some guys who DIDN'T make the Top 75 and are underrated/borderline forgotten about are: Alonzo Mourning, Dan Issel, Bob Lanier, Spencer Haywood, Jack Sikma, David Thompson, Xavier McDaniel, Mark Price, Brad Dougherty, Tom Heinsohn, Jack Twyman, Vern Mikkelsen, Kevin Johnson, Ben Wallace, Clyde Lovellette, Jeff Malone, Arvydas Sabonis, Drazen Petrovic, Amare Stoudamire, Damon Stoudamire, Derrick Coleman, Jermaine O'Neal, Dennis Johnson, Orlando Woolridge to name a few. I know I'm missing a bunch.
Victor Oladipo should’ve been on this list. At his best he was averaging 23 ppg 5 apg and 4 rpg on elite defense leading the league in steals and making 1st team all defense. He also dueled with 2018 bron pushing the Cavs to 7 games that playoff series. He’s Super Underrated
22:53 maybe because it was when I was a kid, but this one really sticks with me Lenny looked to be an incredible player that might in fact have rival Jordan, shame we didn't get to see him.
Peace to Nate The Skate, The Ice Man and Abdul Rauf. Peace to Pistol Pete, too bad him and Dr J didn't play on the same team for an entire season. Nate The Skate coached Shamgod.
Hey Jonny, I have an idea for another story fact check: The game where Demar Derozan wore Jordan 10‘s instead of Kobe’s against the Lakers and Kobe took it personal. According to Demar, Toronto hit a go ahead bucket with a few seconds left. Kobe then said: „You know you left too much time on the clock, right?“ and proceeded to hit the game winner while talking trash to Demar. Would be interesting to see how this actually played out
No Marques Johnson? He was regarded as one of the best forwards in the game in the late 1970's/early 1980's. Johnson is incredibly underrated. He made three All-NBA Teams during his career and did so as a forward playing in the same era with Julius Erving and Larry Bird.
The Warriors have a ton of under appreciated players. Rick Barry, Mitch Richmond, Chris Mullin (to an extent), Joe Barry Carroll, Sleepy Floyd, Neil Johnston, and, who is in my opinion one of the most overlooked and unknown players of all time, Purvis Short.
Well time is underfeated, and so is change. I think the machines ability to make both Jordan and then Labron the Uberface of the league, had a profound effect in why these players are underrated. Most of these players up here never had a signature shoe😢
Everything you said about James Worthy is EXACTLY why Dominique should be glad they didn’t draft him. He would have did everything Worthy did but receive faint praise. In Atlanta he became a legend. In LA he would only be known as the guy who dunked good.
Whenever people say that cliche, "Hakeem was so good he was drafted before Jordan and no one gives the Rockets sht for it." I always say, "I give them sht. Because they could of had BOTH of them. AND Drexler."
Arenas isn't liked because he enjoys life, made his money, was legit as a scorer, but didn't get consumed by the NBA. He knew when it was over and called it quits, and is just out there having fun talking hoops and pissing people off. People should listen to him instead of selected clips posted by other RU-vidrs.
Back in the day, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar ask Alex English for a loan, The loan what's over $200,000, I don't know when Kareem was supposed to pay it back, but Alex English went off on Kareem, I guess he didn't pay him back in the time he promised, eventually Kareem paid in back but I don't think they ever spoke to each other after that, True story.
