A video like this is MUCH needed in todays basketball community. The amount of kids trashing past eras today literally makes me sick. I respect todays era for what it is... and I also respect the past eras for what they were. Why can't the basketball community act like the football community does and respect the greats of the past? Young basketball fans are a different breed for sure. Mad disrespectful.

As someone who appreciates history in general not just basketball history, thanks for always respecting the greats abd teaching me new information. As a Gen Z fan, I appreciate your channel.

Great video and thanks for reminding us about how great Kareem was especially in the 85 Finals vs Boston. Also Kareem was voted the 1980 FMVP AFTER Magic's great game 6 but because Kareem was not present ( back in LA nursing his ankle) the voters were asked to change their votes so Magic would win the award. This is all covered in the book "Kareem" pages 140-141.

The reason Wilt average 50s is not because his opponent are small but because of his stamina ..he literally played the whole season in 1962 averaging 48 minutes per game

The biggest part you guys all leave out when you talk about OLD basketball is there was NO 3 point line no 3 point shot the WHOLE game revolved around the center so of course Wilt was going to have that many points! The game was played completely different in Shaq's time!

Thank you for going in depth on Nick Van Exel. One of the most exciting lakers of all time. Jay Z didn't want his handle for nothing.. These youngsters just don't know. Van Exel's clutchness and high and wide crossover with swagger, was AI 3 years before AI was even in the league.

I'd expect a young person to say Embid is better than Shaq because they didn't see Shaq play in his prime, but Bill Simmons should know better. Nobody since has dominated their position like Shaq, there was no counter for him. No disrespect to Embid, who is amazing BTW.

~ Glad a reputable source showed Jack Sikma, and Laimbeer as stretch bigs. I’ve been a long time fan of the game, since a kid in the 70’s. Also, coming from a Basketball city, where hoops was in your “blood”… I have always loved the game and guys that could shoot. I can remember Sikma won a championship with Sonics and a was a vital member of the 80’s Bucks coached by Don Nelson. Looking back, Isiah and Bill on the high screen and rolls and Sikma spotting up in the corners and on the wings. They were precursors to the modern game. I remember how unique it was because other bigs didn’t play like them. Couldn’t shoot the 3!

Wilt Chamberlian has a 22 foot long jump.. bench press 500 pounds easily. He will dominate any NBA era, period.

I loved 80's and 90's basketball. Great rivalries, physical play and terrific players.

You forgot wilt played when there was no 3 pt line so teams kept passing it to the center. Also the nba wasn’t full of players from the streets

I saw most of the 90's greats live in Seattle which had Kemp & Payton. The one that impressed me the most in person was Hakeem, it was striking to see a 7 foot tall player move the way he did. It was like he was 6 foot tall, he was so quick it didn't seem possible a person that big should be able to move like that. But I saw it with my own eyes multiple times. I only saw Shaq once during his third year. He was awesome obviously but Hakeem made me go "wow". I love these long videos for multiple reasons, one is they help me fall asleep at night. Not because they're not entertaining but rather because they're comforting.

The thing about Isaiah and other guards in his era, had way way sicker handles than they get “props” for. Because the Kyrie//AI handle is illegal and called strictly when those guys played. So Isaiah breaking clowns ankles regularly is just stupid amazing with what was considered palming, carrying, double dribble. Not to mention that the “Euro-Step” was a disgusting travel that looked super ugly and was only done by players at YMCA’s when the defense actually forced them to travel.

I kinda disagree with your take on Moses Malone. Some of my points: - All-NBA Third Team wasn’t a thing until 1988. Shaq had 4 of them. - Moses faced more HoF and All-NBA centers than Shaq throughout his career. Heck, you have Jamal Magloire, Big Z, and Brad Miller as all-star centers in Shaq’s time. That’s how bad that era was for centers in general. - 3 MVPs are 3 MVPs, and I value MVPs more than FMVPs. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t mind if you put Shaq over Moses, but explaining it like Mad Dog had a bad take is outrageous to me.

Years ago Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain did an interview with Ahmad Rashad I think. Anyways they where asked how they would do into today's game which was the 90s then. Wilt was wilt and was doing some s### talking but in good fun. There was no bashing the new era players. In fact Wilt said every player should give a cut of their salary to Jordan because they all owed Mike for salaries being what they became. Back then people respected people. rasheed wallace doesn’t get talked about enough. he was easily the 3rd best power forward behind kg and duncan during his era and was one of the best stretch bigs in the league. he’d be incredible in todays nba. move him to center and you’ve got a perennial all star

Shaq is just that dude. Shaq is the only player that can put his team in the double bonus free throws. Teams had to use 3-4 guys a game just to guard Shaq. The dude is just that dominate. Also Shaq was the reason why the NBA allow zone defense.

These so called experts don't watch games. You can't go off stats and highlights. You need to watch them play. Shaq was so unstoppable for 10 years. He was one of the few players who changed the game during his dominance. Only few athletes not just basketball can do that.

Less contact is called for the foul in the modern game. When Iverson jumped on Shaq's back and Shaq took Iverson up with him, the refs didn't want to call it. Shaq was banged a lot harder without getting the call. Embiid has an easier opportunity to score.

I agree with past players being more underrated but imo harden gets pushed aside in this era... he had a stretch of 5 seasons where the least he AVG was 29ppg with 7.5apg, 3 straight top 2 MVP finishes, if you avg his Numbers he AVG 28 and 8 for a decade.... Him not winning a ring in Houston makes people underrate him imo he should have done it in 2018 tho no excuses there...
