Horror and thriller movies have been part of the filmmaking industry since the very beginning. Whether you love them or hate them great horror movies are innovative and need to be well thought out to keep their audiences engaged and terrified.
Even if you’ve seen it all there are still go-to classics that you can revisit to remind you of what’s it’s like to feel fear. If some of the longer-form horror films have worn you down, then there are quite a few unsettling short films to enjoy, too. These are the most unsettling short films ever.

Crypt TV is an AMAZING site on RU-vid. Ive binge watch all their short films and the amount of creativity is amazing! Some are super scary some are not but you get new episodes twice a week and it is so worth subscribing to if you like horror ♡

I liked Don't Move the best. Next is Lights Out. Short horror movies just cut to the chase without any filler. I like that! There are some seriously talented artists out there creating these great scares. I hope they only keep coming.

That's because you are biased for the short. The movie includes the short almost verbatim, but it's much harder building a full length movie than one creepy short that's a few minutes.

The Birch is stunning. It is incredibly well done. I didn't know the filmmaker made another one, I'll have to check it out. It was the first short I saw that I wanted a full length feature of. Skypemare was all right.

I think symmetropia is just one of those movies (that I personally call "lazy" but that could very well just be me) which misuse the "in media res" method of storytelling. Just because you start and end a story in an "unconventional" timeline, doesn't mean it's not supposed to make any sense. In fact, quite the contrary. People just find few strange facts, and they mention them in their "stories" gluing them with interesting visuals, and random, sudden ends or conclusions. Pretty much 99% of the time, the author him/herself has not a slightest idea what was he/she on about. It's weird, random and then they expect viewers to "fill the gaps", which in turn leaves many of them disappointed. I'd dare to say justifiably so lol

yes. the why and who are so empty that it takes away from the story. why is he so scared of symmetry (and why would that make me scared?)? who is he and who is the robot therapist guy? why does he explode? wtf? very nice, but i dont know whats going on and confused != scared. it was pretty, i like symmetry, but the story does have that "confusing = art" thing going on. then again, films that i hate for that reason are beloved by others, so it could just be us. but im with you on this XD

The only horror movies that have actually creeped me out were Babadook, Goodnight Mommy, The Witch, Sinister, Creep, and the First Paranormal Activity. Most of these films just let their antagonist/ghost to usually linger in the frame rather than play obnoxious music like Insidious always does. I feel like that’s what all Horror movies in Hollywood are now, just jump scares, which yeah can catch me off guard, but after five seconds I feel nothing.

my taste for horror is quite simmilar to yours! check out „it follows“! man i like this one too... it creates a very unsetteling atmosphere and i think the sounddesingn was very good too. the ending/confrontation could have been better in my opinion, but still a very good creepy movie!

personally I think the best movies and shorts are the one's that go for realistic depictions of situations which doesn't necessarily have to be realistic themselves. When directors and writers try to make things abstract, I feel they weaken the effectiveness of their work. take "There will be blood". It's ultra realistic and has nothing abstract or non-literal in it. There is no visual storytelling that relies on confusing interpretive non-sense and it makes the movie feel so much more vivid. I wish more horror movies followed that idea even though There will be blood technically isn't horror. The soundtrack is kind of horror based though which is strange and makes it almost disturbing in a way.

These shorts may be pretty good, but I've been witness to great shorts at horror conventions and festivals for YEARS, and not a single one of the ones I saw made this list - possibly because they're not "recent." Do yourself a big favor and see if you can track any of these morsels of mad goodness down online: DIVINATION DOLL BOY IN DARKNESS THE ARMOIRE MONSTERS IS THAT YOU? HOPE SATANICA
