I'm new to coatings. I've decided to try this on my old Prius to start, then to wife's AMG, and hopefully to my 992. Its not the cost savings as much as I like to tinker. Looks simple to apply once prepped. Thank you for an amazing channel

I often use/recommend the two step combo of Miyabi and topped with ISM for my customers that can afford it. That works very well for my business. The ease of application is just amazing. Thanks for updating this product info Todd. Ken

Second this! Either Miyabi + ISM or Miyabi + Zipang combo is by far the best-selling coating combo I sell to my customers! With Miyabi + Zipang we get up to 3 years in harsh Norwegian climate without any form of re-threatment, only standard maintainance with over coat or anti age threatment 2-3 times a year! 😃

This was SO informational. Esoteric fanboi, here and watching this finally lifted the veil of mystery regarding coatings. There's only one guy doing this in my entire county (officially as I suppose there are under the radar guys doing it) and he touts it as a straight up protective coating which now I know is largely fallacy. I'm definitely doing the full course but likely not until 2023. My vacation times didn't line up with it this year, sadly.

Thank you for such a detailed introduction, I have now ordered Miyabi and ISM from a local store and as you mentioned in the video, you do not recommend keeping the leftover materials for too long. But this is a huge problem for me because I am using it on my motorcycle and I will definitely not be able to use up a can no matter how many layers I put on. I would like to ask if I fill the can with helium or nitrogen before I seal it, will that extend its shelf life? Of course I would ice it in the fridge. Thanks again for your awesome video and looking forward to your professional advice!

Love the video. You mentioned that the product is most effective on darker vehicles metallic vehicles, which of your coatings are coating systems would you recommend for pure white paint?

You need to ask yourself what type of looks you want with the paint. Some will provide more of a brilliant shine (Miyabi), while others will provide more of a warm, wet glow (ISM).

Appreciate the continued feedback and direction Todd. Being a customer for years, the quality and your presentation are always valued. So please now offer your opinion/direction here: I'm about to take delivery of a new Cadillac in black. What coating will bring out the deepest gloss and shine with GM paint? And which spray is suggested to after wash maintenance? Lastly, is there any issue applying a coating over an existing product such as Simonize Glass? Thanks, as usual.

Thank you. 2 layers of Miyabi Coat is great on plain black as it produces a really brilliant shine that accentuates the black finish. From there I like to maintain that with Cosmic Spritz from Polishangel. I know nothing of that product you're referring to, so I can't say with any accuracy if there would be any kind of bonding issues.

During the video Todd mentioned that Miyabi wouldn't be his first choice for metallic paints. My Porsche has black metallic paint. Would you recommend ISM or some other product over Miyabi? Ease of use is high on my priority list which is what drew me to Miyabi, but I also want my paint to look its best.

Really helpful Video Todd. After watching this and some others of yours, thinking about Miyabi (2 coats) and ISM combo. For a car the size of the GT in this vid, how many sets of microfiber towels would you recommend I order pls?

Thank you. One set per coat should be all you need! So for your suggested process, 3 sets (6 towels) should suffice! You might want a few extra though in case you drop a towel in the process.

I applied Miyabi Coat with a layer of ISM to my red Corvette about 4 years ago. It still looks great with an application of a maintenance after each wash. The car is garaged and in use about 7 months per year. When and how will I know that it’s time to reapply Miyabi and ISM? When it is time, what do I need to do to prep the surface before a new application?

It's not that simple of an answer. You also need to determine what kind of looks you're after, what you want with hydrophobic properties, slickness, ease of use, etc. Additionally, the color of the car helps dictate that as well. Your "best" looks will come from machine polishing...the coating is the icing on the cake.

I think I remember from a video way back when that Kamikaze ISM actually could be applied to exterior trim and yield a pretty nice result. Does this hold true with Miyabi as well?

ISM is for both trim and paint, whereas Miyabi is just for paint.

I don't have a garage in which to keep my car overnight. Though I can plan days when it won't be raining, I can't predict dew overnight. Is the slight amount of moisture from dew going to cause problems in the first 24 hours? In the past, after applying a coating, I have covered the car with soft blankets or towels and then covered it with a disposable plastic cover for the overnight. I am wondering if I can stop the covering part. Great video by the way!

That's a tough one as it's definitely not recommended. Perhaps if you had it coated by 8 in the morning, then applied a coating maintenance product (Kamikaze Overcoat or Cosmic Spritz from Polishangel) a few hours later, then maybe.

If I use this in Texas in the summer with our heat and humidity working in my garage about how long should I keep it on before the removal process begins?

It's best to do it in the morning if possible, and do just one panel at a time.

White is neutral, and you can go either way with stellar results. Personally, I have Kamikaze ISM Coat on my white Jeep...

I have it on my personal car! It's a great revision, and works just as well (and probably better) as a base for Zipang and other Kamikaze-Collection coatings.

Both are fine over PPF, but you may find Miyabi a little easier to work with depending on the PPF brand and condition.

Just wipe it off...not really a big deal. Yes, ISM is the formula you want if you're going to use it for both paint and plastic, whereas Miyabi is just for paint.

Question, i used Gyeon Prep before applying an si02 Ti02 coating and according to owner of coating Gyeon Prep is trash. Any issues with Gyeon Prep leaving residue behind???

I really appreciate your videos but I just bought Gyeon Mohs because your video said you guys love it and use it all the time but this video basically says the same thing. I was wondering what is the best coating because it sounds like every coating you have is the best and it’s a little confusing. I have a couple Porsche’s and love to the diy detailing and want to do what is best. The Gyeon Mohs was awesome to install on my 997 but now I wonder if I should use Miyabi on my 996T instead?

Since you used the Mohs, do the Miyabi on the other and compare. It's all personal preference but you can't go wrong with either of them

"Best" is relative to what your wants and needs are. Just like in our video comparing Mohs and Pure...it's not pointing out which is better, it shows what they're capable of so you can decide which better fits your needs.

Title says the most used coating, not the best coating. I do not think their is a best coating , some coatings look better, others are more durable, other are more slick , others are more sticky, others are more user friendly . It really depends on whats more important to you. Kamikaze miyabi is a good coating , easy to use, durable , looks good but its more expensive compared to Mohs. Is there price difference worth it? , to be honest with you nope. But that is my opinion. Gyeon pure is what I went for but that is my personal preference. Mohs is still a great coating

Here's the reality for too many won't admit. If a car is prepped and polished correctly, you're not going to be to tell any real difference between most of these coatings. The human eye can only detect so much gloss or shine before they start looking the same. I would bet just about anything that if you had 2 cars identical in color and prepped the same, you wouldn't be able to tell what had Mohs and what had Miyabi on it.

Hi Todd… after do a decontamination on my car plus a compound and polish, do I apply a wax then use the Miyabi coat on top of that wax as my finished product?

No. Wax has no place with coatings, either before or after. Your finish needs to be completely stripped clean before applying a coating, otherwise it won't bond well.

I don't know of a single coating that's going to prevent water spots. Since it's outside all of the time, it's even more important for you to maintain properly and regularly with something like Kamikaze Overcoat or Polishangel Cosmic Spritz.

@@Esotericdetail Thanks. Allegedly there are coatings that based on their chemical make up, are less susceptible to outside elements including water spotting due to rain and/or hose water. This is largely based on their water shedding behavior. My curiosity was to better understand how this product reacts under these conditions vs others in the marketplace.

@@kabes-us That kind of messaging is usually coming from the same companies that claim scratch resistance, super hardness, and crazy-long durability claims...none of which are real. Coatings are there to provide long-term good looks, and ease of maintenance.

It's not user unfriendly in the least bit...otherwise we wouldn't be using it so much. If you're talking about painted bumpers, then you're OK...we're talking about textured, un-finished plastic (like cowlings around windshield wiper arms on modern cars).

You'd have to do quite a few cars in different colors before you could determine any differences in looks between those two combinations. Given that, the Zipang then requires less time and effort to apply than 2 coats of the combo.

Any recommended rinseless wash for ceramic coated cars? Don't get me wrong, I still wash my car with water 2x a month. What to do if you get a bird dropping or any dirt that you want to spot clean? It is not just possible to wash the vehicle every time there is some bug or poop. I cannot stand looking at that dirt and waiting for a week or two to wash my car with water. 😅

I have to ask you a question. Scotty Kilmer is a Professional mechanic he said that ceramic coating were bad for the paint of a car's paint that a car's paint needs to breathe. Is this true? I use polymer technology finishes on my paint. I'm a beginner detailer on my own car.

Scotty Kilmer was relevant in the 70's-80's. His opinions and expertise is severely outdated and as a result putting out bad/dangerous opinions that are not grounded in data/science. Entertaining on occasion but not current

If you want good information on paint, then speak to a professional detailer. If you want to find out how to fix a car, speak to a mechanic. Coatings will not damage your paint...

He's a mechanic, you don't go to a detailer to fix your engine do you? No, you go to a mechanic. Stop listening to what others have to say when it's not their line of work. He might be a good mechanic but he don't know anything about how to maintain your paint surface. He'll probably suggest you to paint your vehicle if he sees a bit of oxidization on it. A detailer will fix it and save you loads.
